I had one when I was 13. It was 1985 and we got the 1982 yz125 for 300 bucks because the engine wasn't mounted to the bike. Plus it had some other stuff it needed. My dad bought it for me and it took a while but he got it running..I was so happy it was bored .030 boysen racing reeds it was way to powerful for me. The bottom end wasn't too bad but when the power band or power valve hit in mid rpm range it was wicked I remember shifting into 3rd gear on the road in my neighborhood and the back tire was spinning out then the power band kicked in and took off on a wheelie.. I think top speed was about 60 or 65 but from about 10mph to 50 it was just wicked for a 13 yr old who's last bike was a 1975 suzuki ts75 awesome bike. Only thing I didn't like was the rear shock was under the gas tank it hooked to a linkage to the swing arm
Its the second year yz 125 with watercooling. The 81 and 82 were the only years with the radiator on the fork. It was the first yz 125 with power valve. Very fun weird bike . I own one in white
Got a 1981 in model new when I was 13..the 82 was faster with a little better shock..less of the 82 were sold than the 81 ..the news was out on handlebar / radiator set up..but it wasn't as bad on the 125 as it was on . The 250..alotta people bought and won on the 81 that season it was the fastest but in 82 the new improved and must faster than 81 model rm was king..was 81 too just wasn't as fast
I got one of these its been modified to not go through the frame by someone pretty neat bike too second year of liquid cooled first year of power valve
The rm was so superior to everything else in 82 its not funny..the yz was fast and handled poorly ...not absolutely terrible like the yz 250 in. 82..Yamaha sold a ton of 81 models ..not in 82..the jig was up and the racing community was hip to the inferior radiator triple clamp set up..the bike was innovative with the yvps and safety saddle..the 1983 model was vastly improved
Owned one in 82’ great memories..
I had the 83 100k. Fun bikes 4 sure.

Beautiful machine, btw first year of the aluminum swingarm for the YZ was '78

Had one brand new in 1982 not a bad bike!

Do u plan on selling???
Just funny how it looks like a 250 with a baby engine
Scoot forward on the seat… your going to wipeout like that
