There is a small mistake in the toogleTheme function , you need to setTheme(darkMode) instead of _themeData=darkMode so that you can notify the listeners.

Hi! How can I save the selected theme so it starts up with the correct theme? Do I use shared preferences?
Yes, you'd need something like shared preferences that can be simple like type boolean that you can read from when the app launches and set the theme from there.
