  • When most people think of an Abandoned Poconos resort, they think of the honeymoon resorts with heart shaped hot tubs and lots of activities. Well this resort is the complete opposite. What i consider a wilderness resort, guests had the chance to stay in rustic cabins or a room inside the main home. Aside from a swimming pool and walking trails, guests pretty much used this resort as their personal getaway from everyday life. Closed since the 80s, this resort tried reopening one more time, but failed. It's now scheduled to be demolished in a few weeks. I give you a detailed look at this soon to be forgotten destination. Enjoy
    Please Note: Exploring Abandoned locations can be dangerous. I don't condone or encourage anyone to enter an Abandoned structure. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal and when possible, i seek out permission. I simply go to document its history before it's gone and leave things the way I find them. I assume all the risks & responsibility in doing so. Please don't attempt to do this on your own.

      What kind of new business is the present owner looking to put here do you know? I feel if The present owner wants to demolish this Resort he should let Nature take over And not to put something up that would disrupt the wildlife.

      Love how you took time and made this so relaxing. Some of these explore videos are so rushed they don't give you time to really take it all in and then they continue the explore after the filming. Also your voice is very relaxing and I appreciate you not shouting and becoming overly excited upon each new discovery . Trying to say great video JPVideos, lol!

    Out of all the videos I have watched, this one breaks my heart the most. Knowing it was all torn down including the stone fireplaces. With the stressful lives we live in, this would be an oasis of peace and quiet. The beauty of it all and the wildlife. So sad.

A Rockingham glazed insulator, nice find! Beautiful deck with peaceful views. I’ll take one of those cozy cabins with a fireplace any day!!!👍😍💕🏠🏡🌚

    It is possible the pool was filled by a natural spring. That may explain the well and pipe you found. There are remains of an old 1800's resort near my city, that has a similar looking pool. A spring was used as a water source for the pool.

      @Mnrusty1 Před 6 lety +1

      Valerie Sutton The stone surround with a pipe going into it was possibly a water feature of some kind, a decorative element i.e. statuary with water flowing in or around it. It reminded me of a small man-made stone waterfall feature in my town’s city park.

    great find JP and love those sweet deers, they were so tame. You have to carry with you some ears of corn one for each, they would love you much for that snack. Yes they looked really skinny. Suppose in the woods not much to eat. But I do know they love corn, they will eat that right out of your hand. Its a good think that the bldgs. are going to be taken down they are really bad, but very interesting. Great find JP you do excellent work.

    Awesome explore as usual. Sad to see it go instead of brought back to life, but the buildings can not probably be saved by now, to much neglect. I think the calendar VS food and magazine dates showed times that different people/owners that were there. One thing I do not understand, if you have the money to buy the land, demolish, and build some new business, why can’t you restore? I am sure that is just a sentimental part of me that is talking to and not a business person talking. Awesome friggen explore, great photography! thanks for getting there to document the last shots before it is torn down! Gave huge thumbs up!👍

    • @JPVideos81
      @JPVideos81  Před 6 lety +4

      Honestly i think they prefer to build a new business because resorts like these arent as popular as they once were. The Poconos was a honeymoon destination that started fading in the 90s. The lure that drew people to the area has changed, so in their eyes and mine, it wouldn't be profitable.

    • @pokemonhunter9409
      @pokemonhunter9409 Před 6 lety +2

      JPVideos I agree 100%, but like I said the Sentimental part of me would like to see it saved, but the business side knows it has to go. In this case does everything get leveled or does someone come in and take the valuables out first, like the copier?

    • @JPVideos81
      @JPVideos81  Před 6 lety +3

      From my understanding, everything is getting demolished, even the contents inside. The only thing that is being left untouched is the pool. This of course is owners choice but i think its cheaper and less labor to just have everything removed all at once.

    As a kid, I used to go to a pool that was fed by the river/lake right next to it. They didn't chlorinate the pool...they just fed the water in and out of the pool from the flowing water. There was algae at the shallow end that we had to be careful on because we'd slip and bust our butts. But, the deep end had a wooden diving board. We paid $1 to spend the afternoon there (and, believe me, if you didn't know where to find it, you'd never know it was there). I've visited the pool...or what's left of it....a few times. It's still there, but, there are traces of 5 gallon buckets of chlorine back in the woods and the pumphouses. Those must have came in AFTER the health department and insurance regulations became so stringent.

    What a beautiful place this was in it's day. The thing you called a ventilation system (tall white thing with vents) is a heater. My uncle heated his garage with one. The second bird building looked to be a sort of blind where you could sit and watch birds and other wildlife. Hence the windows and stools. Gosh I hope he didn't keep birds in those cages in the one building. Maybe it was a place they could come and nest though. The fireplaces were gorgeous. Can't really blame the new owner for demolishing it. Wayyy to expensiive to restore and bring up to code. Especially the cabins. So glad you did this video and the pictures.

You show respect and seem sensitive to the memories left behind and the music accompanying the drone shots and stills, etc. strike just the right "chord" (pun intended). Perhaps leave the wordier texts giving the background information on the screen a tiny bit longer, please?

    The engine was a Volkswagen non turbo diesel. Odds are it was hooked to some sort of power generator, and you could run a pretty decent size generator off a 4 cylinder diesel. The pull knob was most likely to mechanically shut off the engine by cutting fuel to the injectors. The other switches were probably fuel pump, glow plugs for cold starting and the starter itself. That lever looks like some form of clutch to me. whoever built this was very handy and its a pretty cool idea.

    That homemade generator is awesome!!!! It could of been used for all kinds of things...my guess is a possible homemade lathe or mabey some sort of water pump??

    The dates on some of the stuff that is newer has to be from squatters. Sad so much damage has been done to the place. I am sure it was pretty nice at one time.

  • @barbara-pigeonbray4579

    I love the opening of this tour...the stone fireplaces are gorgeous (wish I had one of them in my house!) I have a question. When they bull-doze abandoned places do they usually take time to remove salvageable items or do they just push the whole thing down ? There is a lot of "good stuff" in this place. Beautiful tour ....again.

      It really depends on the owner. Ive seen them get emptied out first. Others ive seen demolished full of stuff.

      Possibly the generator consisted from the chassis from the van? The standard engine was an inline 4.
