Bought a '73 two-door 1100L from a workmate for thirty pounds in 1986. It drove perfectly, with only 61k on the clock. If only I'd had a crystal ball back then and seen how that box on wheels would appreciate!

Knew where a mk1 Mexico stood for years in the back of a village garage, the two guys worked around it for years, . Tried buying it but they didn't want to know. Went past a few years ago & i big house stands where the garage was. Spoke with a couple of people in the know who said the car got ...Scraped!!!

Avo Mexico was the first mexicos if I remember right
Twin Cam was first quickly replaced by the RS 1600 then came the Mexico followed by the RS 2000.

Brings back the old days. My father had the exact same F1 colour and all in 80 but the engine leaked so he went for a red F2 after and yes he raced it to work against his workmates. Even raced a few cars from the traffic lights on the way to Dublin, one was a priest. The three of us be egging on my father while my mother would be screaming to stop. Loved it , great cars.

The Mexico was the poor mans RS. It was fourth down the pecking order. RS1600, TwinCam, RS2000 and then Mexico.
Interesting debate, can you call a car "original" when all that is original is the back half of the shell? Where do you stop? A VIN plate with 5 square inches of original metal = original motor? Even with a Mexico engine (modified so no longer factory standard) isn't it more honest to call it a "tribute" or a "part original tribute"?
this is not triggers broom, (bless him) . does a car loose original status when you change a light bulb/wiper? id say if the bulk of the monoque/chassis is original then its origin is true. just my opinion though. and yes, an interesting debate.

The rs1800 (cosworth) was a MK2.
