- Two Northland girls got the surprise of a lifetime today. Their dad, Army Staff Sgt. Ryan Pierce, has been in Afghanistan for the past year serving his country...but today he surprised his daughters at school
WHY WOULD ANYONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD HIT DISLIKE ON THIS!!!! A soldier coming back from war to suprise his daughters. He deserves our love and respect.

By the end I was crying too! My dad was in Desert Storm, and I was in middle school when he came home after a year. Nothing can compare to that first hug. It is one of the best child hood memories I have.
I cried and I am proud of it. To those of you complaining because it's a "kick in the face" to those who's families wont return, it's still a blessing to these girls that their father is lucky enough to come home. Even though it may not be their family, at least another family is still intact.

All of you who talk about the little girl in the orange who came up, that is his niece, if you watch the video you see her leaving with the rest of them. look at 1:36 . I am a retired soldier and close with all my family , I'd be a bit upset to see all the people bashing my niece instead of just enjoying a great family moment especially after being in a war zone, it is no fun in the desert, trust me on that.

I love to watch these videos, because when I came home in 1970, no one cared except my Mom and Dad. I was 20 years old, had lost an eye and a few other pieces, and was derided, spat on and treated like dirt. It is SO nice to see these men and women treated like the heroes they are, but I still cry when I watch them, at lest through the good eye, and I'm now 64.
