i find it interesting that you describe mr cecchetti as french-trained when he was very much of the old italian grotesque style.
he didn't modernize ballet so much as completely eradicate the last vestiges of the old system of 18th century ballet with its rigidly defined classes of dancers and, in the process, eradicated the true old french and italian styles. now everyone is expected to be able to dance everything and everyone spins. c'est la vie.

The influence of Cecchetti's Russian seasons on the future of ballet and, in particular, on male dancing cannot be overstated.

Is the documentary available now? As a pupil of Cecchetti's method for over 20 years i am quite interested to see it and glad to know that there are others out there who understand how this training develops versatile and strong dancers.

Thanks! Yes the documentary is nearly finished at last. It should be out this summer. There will be two dancers showing some of the beautiful Cecchetti exercises and lots of information on classical ballet technique which you probably won't have heard before!

Julie Cronshaw awesome! Thanks for update. I spent one summer at Ballet Hysell in New Orleans, la. Harvey Hysell was trained by maestro celli. It was my first and only opportunity to learn about ceccetti technique. I was only about 16 and didn't realize how special this situation truly was. Recently I have been revisiting ballet and the traditions/lineages. So, I'm very excited to see your documentary. I am sure it has been a true labor of love. Congratulations!

Very exciting. I study Cecchetti ballet in Ireland and have been researching a lot more of the history lately.

Thanks! You are so lucky to have had an opportunity to study at ballet Hysell. I never met him but my friend Katharine Kantor who is founder of the Auguste Vestris website and who nterviewed him over the phone before he died! What an amazing story and sounds like a really unique ballet school. I've got the rare silent video of Celli dancing with an unnamed and very competent ballerina, via Diane Carney and excerpts are on the documentary.

Thanks so much! The documentary should be ready this summer. I run my own ballet school and making vids is a new thing I wish I had more time for because there are so many people who keep asking for Cecchetti vids and there's so little on CZcams. Glad to hear you study Cecchetti in Ireland, there are not many Cecchetti schools there. Are you going to attend the UK Cecchetti Summer School from 24-29 July in Birmingham? I'm teaching there on the Monday and Tuesday and will be presenting a lecture on Tuesday night on Cecchetti, Bournonville and the Days of the Week.
