- Repotting is one of the most important-and perhaps the most daunting-processes in the sphere of bonsai practice. We're here to help: repotting your bonsai doesn't have to be scary. In this episode, follow along as Josh completes the first repotting of his Taxus cuspidata. Build your skills in removing trees from their container, working and shaping a bonsai root system, and ensuring that your new bonsai soil is fully distributed throughout your tree's root system for optimal growth success.

Wonderful. All these beginner videos, I love them. Great team. Thank you so much for doing these! I’m learning so much. So passionate about Bonsai.
repotted my first bonsai 3 weeks ago- real scary stuff when it starts losing a ton of leaves for a few weeks but now new growth is happening! i learned more about bonsai during those 3 weeks than i did in months before that!
Mara Santo Domingo did you find out what you did wrong? I’m also a beginner planning to repot
Neil .. You are a master of your Art and Passion , .. Bravo !
I love these beginner series videos, lots of valuable information and fun to watch. It reminds me of those shows like ‘Tanked’ but revolving around the art of bonsai 🌲💙😁🤙🏾
Neil, amazing how you teach us in a simple video all the details about reppoting. Thanks a lot
Mirai all the way! SUPER TUESDAY!!!
Another great video from u guys and loved the fun between u two in this video. Thanks from the uk.

Thank you so much for these videos. Looking forward to future episodes
My soils are: Perlite and safeTsorb for deciduous trees and works wonders. I only use akadama for the aesthetics on the surface of the pot. I also have tried 100% akadama on my Alberta spruce and work just fine.
Very cool bonsai hoodie
Great video Ryan. Simple and to the point. Thank you
Thank you
Man there should be such cool bonsai learning processes in Europe too, exhibitions, courses etc.
well there are a lot
We want more!! Awesome content guys!
Love the videos but this class is very specific to the northern hemisphere. Here in Colombia we have location (along the equator), the height (1850 above sea level), and the fact that it is spring time all year long. The temps go from 17c - 22c almost year long.
SUPER TUESDAY!
Great teacher
Yes!
SUPER FAN. ALWAYS GREAT TEACHING ❤️
First bonsai tutorial video where finally the top dressing is mentioned - sphagnum and moss. Thank you!
Btw the soil video is set to private as are the other videos uploaded this week?!
ryan addresses top dressing with moss in his spring time fundamentals
@@shannonsalkey6951 I actually have seen it but at that time there was too much information to take in. Now as I watched it again then I noticed the part indeed.
just amazing lectures... thank you!!
well if ryan and i have anything in common its hitting our fingers with whatever were swinging.
I wanne see more of the big buchs!
Can we use a metal pointed envelope opener instead of chopstick ?
4:09 is hilarious!
Sir can you make a video on what is good soil for nursery tree thankyou
It's interesting that you leave 30% of the root mass "unchopsticked".... I have seen other folks successfully bare root the trees... would be interested to know what the risks are there!
Erik Pukinskis some trees don’t like full bare root, some don’t mind
esp conifers dont like bare roots that much.
If you grow indoors thier restrictions are few !
Tropical/ fruiting/flowers please.
Thanks.
How big were the pots that you squished your fingers between?
Awesome video, as always!!Ryan said in a previous stream (Living Christmas Tree) that he will produce a stream solely about Austrian Black Pine one day.....any word on the possibility of this happening?
30 percent for conifers. What about deciduous?
Have the trees survived?
You talk about importance of oxygen for the roots of a tree. From my school biology, trees and the majority of plants take in oxygen through their leaf pores for photosynthesis in sunlight and only essential nutrients and water are taken by the root system. Please explain - perhaps you should emphasise the importance of avoiding root soaking or dessication instead of oxygen importance
Leaf stomata intake carbon dioxide for photosynthesis, and respire oxygen. Your basic school biology needs a refresh.
seems like being left handed is complicated when it comes down to doing bonsai
if these guys arent fcking i know nothing
good information but he is so needlessly verbose its pissing me off
I've heard of bonsai, but I've never heard of BONEsai... Are these different things? Should I be pronouncing Jon Bon Jovi's name Jon BONE Jovi, for instance?
Japanese kanji. Pronounced Bone Sigh. I could be wrong on the name of the letters.
@@sumobonsaisupply6976 You won't find any Japanese pronouncing it that way. And in any case, Kanji is not 'pronouncable'... unlike Hiragana and Katakana, which are syllabic.
Who cares
