It makes sense to me Paul. You make some of the best modelling videos on YT, it is soooo good to watch someone build instead of turning a paintbottle 300 times. Paul, in my opinion you need to take a break from these videos. You appear to have financial and health issues, a common issue since covid. The time you spend giving us great information and entertainment would be better spent on your family, your health and well-being. You can return to us when you are on a better footing! No reasonable person would criticise you Paul. I’m surprised you didn’t do it a long time ago. Your output & the quality of your content certainly justifies it. There are modelling youtubers out there with FA subscribers & who would be lucky to pump out a video every two weeks that have Patreons.
100% respect for you for being completely honest, I've never supported anybody with Patreon, but if it comes down to it, if you need Patreon to continue then that's what you have to do, and I would take pride in knowing I'm helping you to help me.

Don't worry about this at all. Your content is good, and I'm sure you'll have people happy to join. If this is still bugging you after a while, I highly recommend you read Amanda Palmer's book "The Art of Asking". It's all about her journey moving away from the recording labels over to a completely fan-supported model. She was one of the first musicians to do it, and took a lot of public scrutiny. But at the end of the day, if you love doing something, and it's valuable to people, they'll be happy to chip in to keep you rolling along.
When I recently latched on to this channel I soon wanted to support it through Patreon and then.....no Patreon....it's so common I assumed you had one. No worries Paul. I hope it works out for you and brings a good return on investment.
I also have my modelling channel on you tube, its nowhere near as polished as yours, but i can understand how you feel. Im still new to this you tube world but even i feel the need to provide constant content to the audience. For me its just a hobby and i have accepted the fact i cant provide content as often as i would like due to lack of time. My operation is very simple and inexpensive, sort of like model building unplugged. Maybe that would be a good direction for you as it keeps costs down. I enjoy your videos and hope you keep going. So dont feel bad about patreon.

One thing I can see with Patreon, you'll probably end up with people requesting you to build a certain kit or kits if X amount is donated or reached. If that's going to be the case your going to have to be clear about whether your going to do that or not, and if so what the parameters are.
I think Paul's added that option to the higher tiers. I've never considered having any say on the content of the creators I support but its good that he's thought of that in the tier structure.
I never support pattern. CZcams is for people to make videos for people to watch. Anyone who wants to make a living off of CZcams needs to get a real job. I think your great but it’s a point of pride that I’ll never pay someone to make a video I can watch. I want to pay for something I’ll buy a professional made videos. Sorry.
I was half expecting that something horrible was happening to you/your family and you were going to be asking for help which im sure would be forthcomming. Saying that you are starting a Patreon for yourself and what you put forward online is expected now adays. You tube is no longer just someone sat there with a cam does a full shoot and then put online. The ammount of work behind the scenes like you say editing etc mounts up. I am very much behind the fact that people should be reimbursed for services that they provide and this is a service. DO IT !!!! :-) Take care.

That's a good point John. I've never looked into how much the creators get. I've added Paul to the list of people I support through Patreon but I'm happy to change to PayPal or whatever gets him the biggest share.
I think you would be better off developing and selling 3D Resin Parts. With the rise in gas prices, food, car insurance and the state of world people will not support paying for video’s that may not cover their exact liking. Newer generations are not getting into modeling, so if someone expects to make a living making model hobby videos, I think your looking at best 3-5 years lifespan. I understand where you’re coming from. I will try to support your channel. I can’t do a lot as I have other Patreon’s and limited funds. You need to relax. Stress will kill you. Instead of more and more videos,how about fewer more involved videos? Take care of yourself and stay safe 🍻🌲
Don't think this as something to be ashamed of, you want to do more and need investment. So your audience enjoys your product (your videos) so you are asking for investors to help build, not handouts.
I feel your pain I had patreon on my channel and people got the wrong idea. I`m retired right now so less funds to play with the hobby. I would surport if I had extra funds but I can`t money is tight

Paul, being paid for doing work is what most people expect in life, so no difference here, I have only ever donated to one other persons patreon before but you would be the second!
I am sorry to say, but your content is way better than most of what is provided on YT. Even outside of YT, when you remove any desire for money to be an end mean, the blessings will flow in. Let your passion drive your goals not the money. This method will relieve stress and let you focus on your true path. Stress is merely a distraction. YOU have inspired me to take up my passion for RC building again and I hope to have a work space like yours some day and maybe some sort of social media channel too. YOU GOT THIS! Thank you for what you do for the hobby/industry.
How about more in depth Videos for patrons only....your painting knowledge a good example...yes everything is in your older videos...you could even edit them to make a longer video series on painting and colour sanding one example.... you could also release you build series episodes a week early to patrons....also some patron only exclusive content.... be happy to have kits donated to save £££ with the understanding that your not agreeing to build them...sell on the kits donate you do not want...you have the set up to do that.... donate a percentage to Models For Heroes if you feel bad about it..... loads of other people in the hobby do that and there videos not a good as yours! .... your one of the few people I would consider watching extra content...... I agree with some that it looks like you need to slow down until you get your Video Mojo back....... if I ever started a channel I would be accepting anything offered..... in fact this inspires me I have seen the cool kits other CZcamsrs get donated...I would not mind getting in on that if am honest.... Good luck mate things will get better for you but thanks for the honesty.
why is producing then editing videos for people to consume, and giving advise to anyone that asks, and making tutorial videos for people, and providing spaces for like minded people to use, not considered a normal job to you?? You must think that directors or actors or editors or camera men or I.T people all work for free.
Its totally normal and a must to start a patreon. But yours arent very attractive. I get that you need the support but Probably should add some patreon exclusive content, what about reviewing patreon member builds once a month or anything like that and a group for patreons only. There is lots of things to do to make your patreon more attractive for those sitting on the fence if they gonna support or not. And make people stay there. Good luck:) wish you the best. You are free to do whatever you like to do but then asking for money to literally burn it down isn't really what i would want to invest into.
The reasons you gave make it totally understandable. And sad yo hear. I enjoyed many years watching your videos and learned a lot. But with everyone and their mothers going to that there patreon thingy, I have to make a choice as to if i want to be strongarmed into spending more money for something that used to be free. I have seen how the many who have made the move are making money on it. But they also lost a lot of supporters because the "free" content just went away. At least you were honest an let us know that your non-patreon viewers won't be seeing any of the good stuff. In fact, you didn't mention anything about this channel!! I have yet to meet anyone who made a patreon offer anything that makes the cost worth it. So I will not be following you anymore.Sadly. I hope you leave this channel up so I can go back and reference old content.

One thing I can see with Patreon, you'll probably end up with people requesting you to build a certain kit or kits if X amount is donated or reached.
If that's going to be the case your going to have to be clear about whether your going to do that or not, and if so what the parameters are.
I think Paul's added that option to the higher tiers. I've never considered having any say on the content of the creators I support but its good that he's thought of that in the tier structure.

I never support pattern. CZcams is for people to make videos for people to watch. Anyone who wants to make a living off of CZcams needs to get a real job. I think your great but it’s a point of pride that I’ll never pay someone to make a video I can watch. I want to pay for something I’ll buy a professional made videos. Sorry.

I was half expecting that something horrible was happening to you/your family and you were going to be asking for help which im sure would be forthcomming. Saying that you are starting a Patreon for yourself and what you put forward online is expected now adays. You tube is no longer just someone sat there with a cam does a full shoot and then put online. The ammount of work behind the scenes like you say editing etc mounts up. I am very much behind the fact that people should be reimbursed for services that they provide and this is a service. DO IT !!!! :-) Take care.

Looking at your subscriber numbers, if we all gave 50p a month you'd be well sorted! I will make any donations via Paypal because, if I remember correctly from a previous experience, Patreon both charge me Vat and don't pass on the whole donation to you as they levy a charge.
That's a good point John. I've never looked into how much the creators get. I've added Paul to the list of people I support through Patreon but I'm happy to change to PayPal or whatever gets him the biggest share.

I think you would be better off developing and selling 3D Resin Parts. With the rise in gas prices, food, car insurance and the state of world people will not support paying for video’s that may not cover their exact liking. Newer generations are not getting into modeling, so if someone expects to make a living making model hobby videos, I think your looking at best 3-5 years lifespan. Don't think this as something to be ashamed of, you want to do more and need investment. So your audience enjoys your product (your videos) so you are asking for investors to help build, not handouts.
I feel your pain I had patreon on my channel and people got the wrong idea. I`m retired right now so less funds to play with the hobby. I would surport if I had extra funds but I can`t money is tight

How about more in depth Videos for patrons only....your painting knowledge a good example...yes everything is in your older videos...you could even edit them to make a longer video series on painting and colour sanding one example.... you could also release you build series episodes a week early to patrons....also some patron only exclusive content.... be happy to have kits donated to save £££ with the understanding that your not agreeing to build them...sell on the kits donate you do not want...you have the set up to do that.... donate a percentage to Models For Heroes if you feel bad about it..... loads of other people in the hobby do that and there videos not a good as yours! .... your one of the few people I would consider watching extra content...... I agree with some that it looks like you need to slow down until you get your Video Mojo back....... if I ever started a channel I would be accepting anything offered..... in fact this inspires me I have seen the cool kits other CZcamsrs get donated...I would not mind getting in on that if am honest.... Good luck mate things will get better for you but thanks for the honesty.

Its totally normal and a must to start a patreon. But yours arent very attractive. I get that you need the support but Probably should add some patreon exclusive content, what about reviewing patreon member builds once a month or anything like that and a group for patreons only. There is lots of things to do to make your patreon more attractive for those sitting on the fence if they gonna support or not. And make people stay there. Good luck:) wish you the best. The reasons you gave make it totally understandable. And sad yo hear. I enjoyed many years watching your videos and learned a lot.
But with everyone and their mothers going to that there patreon thingy, I have to make a choice as to if i want to be strongarmed into spending more money for something that used to be free.
I have seen how the many who have made the move are making money on it. But they also lost a lot of supporters because the "free" content just went away.
