Wild Atlantic Voices: developing a gallery dedicated to the Irish boats of the Atlantic coast

  • Gain insight into the work of museum curator Noel Campbell who is currently developing a gallery dedicated to traditional Irish boats of the Atlantic coast.
    The National Museum of Ireland - Country Life is currently developing a gallery at Turlough Park in Castlebar, Co. Mayo for the permanent display of a selection of traditional Irish boats and associated objects from Ireland’s Atlantic coast. To mark this year’s World Maritime Day, Noel Campbell, gallery curator, will give an illustrated talk where he will detail how his engagement with island and coastal communities is informing the gallery's content.
    About the speaker
    Noel Campbell began working in the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life in 2001. He is a graduate of NUIG and UCD and holds a degree in history and archaeology. He is the author of A History of Castlebar: Municipal Government 1613-2014 (2014) and The History of Castlebar (2022). Noel is responsible for the Boats, Fishing, Hunting, Agriculture and Transport collections.
