    Thanx for the video , Just a reminder if you mix coolant with water . Make sure to use distilled water . Tap water has a lot of different minerals that will turn your fluid to a rust color which will then over time eat a hole in your radiator.

    My car is displaying the exact same message as yours was. I did some research and then bought a new thermostat. Now I find your video which I think is very helpful. I hope the thermostat replacement gives me the results I am looking for. I never realized the thermostat was on the bottom. That makes sense of why the sudden increase of pressure on the top hose. Thanks for sharing this video. Now it is off to my garage.

    • @nickallen8903
      @nickallen8903  Před 6 lety

      John Renko For my clamp, I used pliers to squeeze the clamp. I had to also wiggle it back and forth to get it to move. Once it is moving you can slide it away from the engine and then pry the hose loose. It may take some elbow grease.

By the time I came home and threw the OBD scanner on it and pulled the P0128 code it suddenly started working again. I'll keep an eye on it. If it comes back at least I know what I'm dealing with. Thanks Nick. I just changed my thermostat but I now have problems with the upper radiator hose. It’s squirting out...I bought a new one from AutoZone but it says it’s cut to fit. There is a long side and a short side with the long side having the hole diameter bigger than the short side. Any suggestions to as which side I can cut and which side goes where? The guys at my local autozone store had no clue🤷‍♂️

      Noah Ortega first thing first!!! Check fluid level, check temp sensor pigtail for any fraying if ok then change water pump!! In this case it’s stuck open because the engine is not reaching temp! Yours is hot make sure that it’s the proper temp thermostat!

    • @nickallen8903
      @nickallen8903  Před 8 lety +1

      +Byron B The thermostat costs about $20 where I live. Some mechanics will want to use their own parts (they typically mark up the price a bit when they do that). If you have a mechanic that's willing to install the thermostat that you give them, it may be worth while. That said, it is a pretty easy fix and if you do it once you will be able to replace it in the future with confidence as well. But ultimately, it's all about your comfort level. Good Luck!

    • @mtbirds1
      @mtbirds1 Před 5 lety

      Armond Cooper I don’t think so; you should have an error message like he shows at the beginning of the video. You’re likely just running a little hot-not a big deal. My 06 was slight above midway for a few years before the thermostat when out.
      Do check your fluids though. It could be that your fluid had degraded and less effective.

    • @nickallen8903
      @nickallen8903  Před 7 lety +2

      There's a risk that you can cause significant damage to the engine if it over heats. However, it you keep a close eye on the engine temperature gauge and make sure it doesn't get into the red, you can drive it. If you go on short drives or live in a colder region, you will probably be fine. If the engine does get hot, find a safe place to pull over and open the hood for a while. Carry extra antifreeze/water mix in case you need to add a little extra. Good Luck!

      Larry Braziel you can hook it up to a code reader if you have one and clear the code. The engine light should reset after that.
      If you dont have a code reader, you can inhook your positive battery terminal for 10-20 minutes and the code should clear itself.

    when the thermostat goes bad..the temperature gauge will build up temp then suddenly drop the temp...hope this helps someone

      Exactly, its also Illogical as the thermostat doesn't communicate with the car in anyway, it only opens and closeses when temperature is reached.

    20k miles and you already have to change the thermostat. Wtf. I had to do this to mine at 80k. Still have the message though which I now know is the coolant temp sensor. Not gonna worry about it for now. It seems to fix itself after a day or so then its fine for a few weeks. Then back to saying ac off. I know this video is old so your probably way over 20k by now.

    • @vegasbab.y3740
      @vegasbab.y3740 Před 5 lety

      Hairless Apes yah I think mine is going out now because my car is trying to overheat but the fan cools it down before it overheats completely. Like the temperature of the car starts to go over the middle line which is never did. So. Me and my dad are thinking it’s the thermostat. But we’ve had our impala since actually early 2012 and we bought it from enterprise car sales. So it was used before and it only had 20k miles on that for 15k! Which is a good ass deal. But now our car is close to 140k it’s at 138k now. And the car is also acting up idk what it is but we think it’s the throttle body. Maybe it’s clogged or something idk. And the power steering has a bit of a leak so we have to put power steering fluid in it every little while. And the same thing with the coolant.
