    Alright so I'm always bad-mouthing Walmart balloons when people ask me where to buy balloons from. But turns how I haven't actually tried to make any balloon animals with Walmart balloons for a long time! So I decided to do a little experiment on video! The results may surprise you!

    Pretty cool you venture to try these Walmart balloon for us. Now we have to see the pricing on them but if in a hurry or in case of an emergency (or traveling and need a quick balloon creation) this is an easy option to consider! Thanks Holly!!!

    I've been using cheep balloons from Kmart and Discount stores here in Australia for about 6 months as I'm just learning and did not want to spend big $$ on an order of Q's. Have had very few burst on me but those that did I think was due to the fact that I was over inflating when I first began. Have even done a few parties using these balloons and they do last. Some of my practice pieces are still 'alive' a week later. Thanks Holly for all your work.

      I do know of all the brand name balloons. My comment was made 7 years ago. Even at that time I was using many different brands. I still use 'no name Chinese' balloons alongside Q's and find the cheaper balloons just as good. @@robertcroxtonjr.7623

    Interesting.... regardless of what we think of Walmart, their vendors have standards they have to abide by to be on the Walmart shelves. Someone once told me that Qualatex balloons were manufactured in Canada (don't quote me).. so maybe this is just an inexpensive line made especially for Walmart (like many of their other products). Thanks for taking the time to do this for us!

      I changed my original post. I do recall my bags saying made in Canada at one time but all the ones I have now said Made in USA and Pioneer has an Ontario location but says Head Quarters are Wichita, KS. I still hink there is probably only one big balloon player in Canada as it is is so specialized but I would not say a Vendor has to have the SAME quality as a balloon supplier. It would be nice but to meet the margins of Wal Mart many companies have to have a lesser quality line to save money.

      Greetings from Edmonton City, Canada...
      FUNOLOGY Balloon Artist and recent Business College graduate weighing in: Most businesses started in America (have "Headquarters" there) and have offices in Canada (most will have an office in Ontario or Quebec), so having an American Company's products manufactured in Canada is cheaper (U.S.A. $$$ converted to Canadian $$$). i think (?!?) Qualatex is manufactured in Canada.
      However, never support WALMART because they donate to a questionable Charity. Do some research (i am not about to start a Pro-Life debate in the comments section) and you will be shocked. And NEVER trust Dollar Store junk!

    I was out of town at a family thing and forgot my balloons at home. I found these exact balloons at Wal-Mart and they worked great. I was suprised. I even warned my family before I started that they might not work well, but they did. I found a pump at the dollar tree on the same day, and it is not dual action but it got me through. We had a lot of fun for only $11 and no sales tax in Oregon. Woo Hoo!

    Hi Holly, I have used the Walmart balloons and they are not horrible. They have helped me when I need something fast. My regular stock is from Party City trademarked amscan. Labeled Twist & Shape Balloons. They work really well for me and I am not a delicate twister. Qualatex seems to pop on me.

    The Q rep for the east coast lives in my city and I was at his house where he has thousands of balloons and I mentioned to him that I buy those WalMart balloons to keep in the car in case I want to make a balloon for someone randomly and don't want to keep my good ones in there all the time. He said they are made by Q and distributed by WM. If you notice they are exactly like the vibrant asst and standard asst by Q. I was floored when he told me that!

    When my sister and I first started balloon twisting, she got some generic balloons from Amazon (we ordered qualatex, but while I got lucky and got the real deal, she got one of those bad sellers -- they sent her generic bags of balloons with white printed labels on them saying "Qualatex"). The generic balloons were awful. Not only did they pop sooooo easily, they didn't even blow up correctly! Sometimes just the middle would blow up, or the end, and you'd have to really pump to get the part near the nozzle to fill with air! Also, if you twisted or even bent a portion of it, the color came off of the balloon there. It was kind of crazy:)

    So I have a nagging suspicion that Walmart commissions pioneer company to make balloons for them because the barcode area on the packaging looks exactly the same and it both says made in Canada. I've been buying them along with qualatex because they feel almost exactly alike, except qualatex one is more opaque, but only slightly. As you can see in the video, it only comes with limited colors. But OMG I just went to go buy more and they have NEW packaging! AND NEW COLORS! Now it comes with black and purple!!! So excited. I highly recommend them if you're new and want to build up your skill without spending a lot on qualatex. Party city also has a bag of 144 for like $11 but those balloons don't feel nearly as nice (not as smooth). But they are longer and a little wider.

    I've been finding there are a lot of Q colors I don't like as much as other brands. I've slowly been switching over to Bs for lots of colors. Scott Kazan did a video about the difference between the Lilacs of each brand, and that got me to order B lilac. They are way prettier.

      I always break out when I use Betallatex. I don't on Qualatex so I don't know what it is. I bet it's the powder they use on the inside because I touch uninflated ones and I'm fine. I don't like the Blush Betallatex uses but some of their colours are prettier.

    • @MrBomasBalloons
      @MrBomasBalloons Pƙed 10 lety +1

      Heather Ann Pajerski The powder should be the same. The difference is likely in the washing process. A longer wash will remove more of the proteins that cause an allergic reaction from the latex (it is a very similar protein to one found in many tropical fruits, like kiwis. Are you allergic to kiwis?). That protein can get into the powder and be transferred that way, too. Watch this about how balloons are made: How It's Made - Balloons

      I'm allergic to bananas! That makes so much sense! Someone told me I was most likely allergic to latex but I don't have the itching to Qualatex but if I twist too much my hands go numb. I just figure it was because my wrist was giving out and pinching a nerve. I love this craft so I won't stop!
      That was awesome Mr. Boma, thanks! I learn a lot!

      @MrBomasBalloons Pƙed 10 lety

      Heather Ann Pajerski You might look into balloon gloves. I've never used them, but I know some people do. They might take some getting used to. And you'll have to be careful about not getting powder on you because it can transfer the protein.

    Holly- next try the dollar store balloons. :) My guess is that any thinner balloon will be fine for a while. When younger, it is easy to over twist a balloon... even a Q. I still have have Q pops for no good reason. When you were 10 maybe they were never poor quality Remember, maybe in those stores also sold OLD STOCK since most do not buy twisting balloons. Holly, there was a time when just about everyone put a balloon in their mouth to inflate. So, they made ones that just about anyone could blow. But the thinner ones will not last as long because it is thinner.

    As always, Awesome video Holly. Always enjoy your video's. Hmm, these Walmart balloons do seem much better quality than the balloons that come in some of the Kits I've seen. I wouldn't personally use these, due to the cost, unless maybe in a real 'pinch'. When I started twisting in May of 85 Ashland Balloon Co. was the place to get 260's. I almost seem to remember their quality being even better than Pioneer, when they entered the scene. I could b wrong, lol. I did try another company about 15 yrs ago, but the qualify was horrible. I've heard of B's, but never had the opp to try them as my supplier in TO doesn't stock them.

    Maybe we could try an abuse and endurance challenge between the brands.

    I was once at a friend's house and someone had gotten their daughter a set of twisting balloons and a balloon pump from Part City here in the NYC area and they were TERRIBLE... they were popping like crazy and with anything involving more than one balloon was pretty impossible, they would leak all over the place. I will have to make a mental note about those walmart ones, I know my friend's daughter would like to try twisting again, perhaps this would be less frustrating for her.

    Greetings from Edmonton City, CANADA! Dr. Fizzy, Balloon Artist here...
    Yeaaah, those Twisty Balloons were made in my Country! Your balloon pump was triggering because the last pump i had looked exactly like that, and some dumb person stole all the supplies i brought with me the last day i was working an event in Edmonton in September 2021. So i no longer have that pump, and because i am low income can not afford more balloon supplies for summer 2022! The nerve of some thieves taking balloon stuff! What are they gonna do with balloons? They though my balloons were condoms or drugs or candies, and when they realised what the balloons really were, tossed my plastic bin in a dumpster probably. Oh yeah, i have had balloon supplies stolen 3 times in the past 6 years, and a cell phone (luckily i had no call phone plan), and have had to restock balloons 3 times which is a pain in the buttocks!!! if i supported WALMART, i would run there tomorrow and pick up 2 or 3 few bags of Twisty Balloons. The Twisty Balloons pink is too light and yellow looks a bit "pukey" to me. Also, never trust a cheaply produced white balloon! i trust Qualatex and Betallatex more. Quality always wins, eh?
    Dollar store balloons and pumps are junk. You should review Dollarama or Dollar Tree balloons and pump next.
    Also, the Twister Sister and i met at a Balloon Twisting Convention in Las Vegas in 2014. i was the shy gal who sat next to her when we were trying to learn how to make a car, and i was struggling, and she reassured me i was doing okay. She is such a sweet person. :)

    Buying in bags of 20 would not be very cost effective for me. Not sure what the cost was and in Canada, we have to add tax.
    Also...Just because it says 'made in Canada' doesn't mean the balloons were made in Canada. Often it only means they were packaged in Canada.
    Qualatex balloons are manufactured by Pioneer Balloon Company, with locations all over the world.

      Daffy, are you sure that is the case? I thought it has to list country of origin and say something like Made in USA packaged in Canada if there is a distinction. I see this with food all the time "Product of Italy, distributed and packed by XYZ Fairfeild, NJ" I think there has to be an distinction as the contents origin is what they need to know for many items. But maybe not all.

    Does the cost compare? Seems like Walmart would still be a premium price for so few. But in a pinch, why not? Originally I thought Pioneer Balloon was from Canada but they list the headquarters in Kansas. I could have sworn I had some bags that said made in Canada but looking at my bags now they say made in USA. They do have location in Ontario Canada listed. Still I am guessing is there is only one balloon company of any size to supply Walmart and that they created a more easy to blow kit.
    I recall when balloons had grades. E were easier to blow than Q. I think there was an A size but dont quote me on that. I would compare a Qualatex kit for non twisters and see.
