How I use 360 camera in motorcycle videos. Insta360 X2 vs X3

- The Insta 360 camera can make motorcycle videos in a way that other cameras can't. Used right it's the perfect addition to make your videos be more entertaining to watch with very little effort while riding.
I have used the 360 for a while now and it's in my collection to stay. Specially on the trips where there is little time to make planned shots or go the extra mile for a good shot.
In this video I compare the Insta 360 X2 in my bag to the new version X3.

As someone who is just starting his adventure with moto-vloging I greatly appreciate this kind of videos!
10/10 as always, thank you!
The quality difference is really noticeable between the X2 and X3 - thx for the comparison!
The video really hit the spot, I've always been interested to learn more about these 360 degree cameras. Now you can search for more information about their characteristics. Thanks for sharing your experience! 👍
Thank you for that Robert, excellent! I lost my GoPro on my last trip so replaced it with the X3 which I'm trying to learn about. I'm not a vlogger as such but want to record my motorcycle trips both with friends and also when solo. Your video has been particularly helpful! 🤗👍🏼
Really enjoyed your explanation of the X3 and practical demonstration. Been thinking of getting one for a while and probably will now 😀
Thanks!
Thanks so much for doing this! I'm taking notes!
Great video Robert, thanks for sharing all the information, well done!! 👍👍
Tack Robert.
Tackar 🙏
Handy tutorial! Thanks for making
Thanks ! Great video.
Thanks for comparing the X2 and X3, Robert. There is progress, colours and less "comic" and more natural movements. I have used the X2 over summer, but have not cut any videos yet. Now in autumn there should be more time for editing. Cheerio, Günter
Great video comparison. Thinking of buying a used X2 to give making videos with multiple angles a try.
Nice to see how you use it all... easy to forget how much preparation and thought is put into some of the shot and it is by no means a point and shoot kind of camera. Personally I don't like the 360 look, but it can be a great addition to compliment a story if you know how to use it 👏🏻 Great video Rob... 🎥
Thanks buddy! Yes, this camera is perhaps the one that can be misused the most. And if I rode alone with time on my hands it would be used less. It's not about the size, it's how you use it (she said) :D
@@NomadSweden Mine have never said that?? 🤔 Yeah, it is easy to get lazy and just think you can pan around afterwords. I would love to see some really creative shots with this camera. Maybe we need to challenge your creativity
@@tshansen hahaha
@@NomadSweden Appropriate, most of them like a 360 once broken in. Silly silicon.
Thank you sir, nice expain. keep up it, good job
Thanks mate
great video, there was a lot of effort put into this video! cthank you for sharing, keep up the fantastic work 😊✨
Thanks Kristina!
@@NomadSweden you are very welcome, have a great day 😊
I enjoyed this behind the scenes look. As someone who enjoys making videos as well it's nice to see how the successful guys do it. Also appreciate that you don't use the ballooned views that others use with their 360 cameras.
Thanks! I like that they abuse the 360 cameras because that makes my videos look better 😂
Sometimes the "fish eye" can be used as an effect, but it shouldn't be over done.
Great, much appreciated
Perfect video.a bigger video with all of your gear and the programs that you use for it will be very very intersting.Cheers from Hellas
Thanks! Yes I have thought about making a video like that but wasn't sure if people are interested. It could be a great winter project.
The 360 camera is extremely useful for a content creator: press record and forget it. The long battery life is also great. Happy to see they sponsored you, I tried but with no luck 😅
Regarding your Gopro setup - which mic do you use and is it just connected to the media mod, or do you have any tape or paste to keep it properly connected? Many thanks!
Thanks. Yes, I find it hard to use the 360 as main/only camera, but it's awesome as a complement to make it more interesting to watch. Speaking of the helmet, I get these questions a lot so there is a video coming up. But basically I connect two mics to the media mod using a Y-splitter cable. One mic for intercom audio (on the speaker) and one for my voice.
Darn, I will have to get one now....Just like the iter pad. You're an expensive channel to look at 😂. Great tutorial and insights !
Haha sorry for that. Thanks
It took me a while to figure out, you gotta post-process twice :) Like your style, thanks for the video. I see that your footage gets that annoying 'wobble' as the image is closer to the lens - that is annoying I hope somehow they figure out how to reduce/remove this in later firmware.
Great vid. the x3 looks noticeably better than the x2 which I'm glad a bout as I have just ordered the x3. hope it can withstand the harsh lanes we ride .
Nice. Just make sure to protect the lensed 👊🏻✊🏻
@NomadSweden yes ordered the heavy duty lens protector not just the stick on ones 👌
nice. tnx for video ;-)
Got my MC license this week, feels awesome to be on the road finally! If u would choose between a Gopro and 360, what camera would you start with? As always great videos ✌👍
Congratulations! I would start with an action camera. Perhaps the DJI because GoPro battery life sucks. 360 is fun but doesn't really replace a good helmet cam.
@@NomadSweden Alright, thanks for the input! Will check out Dji some more then 👍
Have had the X3 a few weeks, just gutted you have to use wifi to transfer files to my iPad pro when I should be able to use a memory card. My iPad pro is much more powerful for processing than my older iMac.....but Insta360 don't want to allow easy transfer. Pretty amazed with the camera otherwise., thanks for this great video comparison Robert. Ride safe,
Thanks. I understand that would be a big problem. I use computer always so I haven't stumbled on this yet.
Based on experience with a X2 (broke) and One R(lenses scratched) I strongly advise to use lensguards and for de X series a metal cage. Thanks for your test! Enjoyed it.
Thanks 🙏 indeed the lenses scratch very easily because of the form
Nice bike
You can add some ekstra glasses for the camera. Works fine for me.
Interesting to see how the front shot has low wind noise as the camera focuses on the rear facing microphone. Haven't cross checked this on my laptop but would like your opinion on that since you seem to use it a lot. Good job as usual!
Yes I was amazed to find the audio the biggest improvement from the X2. I never use audio from the X2 but with the X3 I may do so. I don't have that much experience with the X3 yet so I have to get back on that. Promising though.
I've been thinking about getting one to pull screen grabs from the footage to use as photos but doesn't seem like the quality would be good enough? I like taking pictures on my motorcycle trips but that obviously only works when you're not moving.
Bra video! ..och jag gillar verkligen din hoj 👍
Tack, jag med!
So funny. Love how you and itchy boots say... "YEAH" 😁. I think you better take another look at your demo of the 2 cameras. X3 was much clearer than X2. I could see the difference instantly. It was like.... WOW. Almost like wiping away fog from the lens. I did not notice the audio that much but it was also an improvement. You are a natural at doing this too. Relaxing and enjoyable. Thanks. Waiting for the USA TAT videos to start. 😁 You should always say, "and don't do anything stupid that we do." So funny. 🤣 From warm, Okeechobee, South Florida. take care.
Thanks Floria John! Me and Itchy :D haha. Yes the X3 was indeed better, and the audio perhaps even bigger improvement on good speakers. We do want to come over the pond soon. Just need to figure out about bikes, money etc. So stay tuned. All the best.
@@NomadSweden Thanks for deleting my other comment. I went back to do it and thought to myself....what was I thinking. duh. 🙂
@@JohnSmith-uy7sv Delete? Nore sure what you mean here. Did not delete anything. Did youtube filter it?
@@NomadSweden Don't know. It's gone. all good. thanks. 🙂
A very informative video. So which one of the insta 360 is the better one? Keep up the great work. Cheers
THanks. As mentioned in the video the X3 has better video and audio.
But which one is tougher.. will withstand a bit of banging around?
That’s what I’m worried about
Both about the same. Its only the lens that you need to be super careful with so no banging around
I’m considering purchasing the “insta360 X3” with motorcycle Mount for those angles but on an Indian Roadmaster instead. For cross country riding in the U.S. However, to reach certain destinations in considering pickup truck too haul the motorcycle and then film the necessary beauty routes. One step at a time right? You have a very nice bike for all terrain use. Keep filming and riding safe. Thank you for sharing and inspiring others, including myself. You’ve answered a lot of questions I was wondering about this new 360 camera.
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻
Viva Nomad Sweden !🎥
Viva our viewers!
great info for bikers. Starting to learn and use x3 in Chile, results will view on my next video for Argentina 5 days travels. I'm seriously thinking to change my helmet gopro, for a Insta360 RS 4K edition only. and use same app for both. Any chance to test some Bluetooth mike non apple, may be Cardo connection? until now i couldn't.
Thanks. I will still use my gopro on helmet, but intercom to camera with bluetooth could be handy.
Hi Robert, off topic but have you an install video of the Scott’s steering damper from triple clamp moto .please
Sorry dont have video on that
All kostar stålar så du får göra ditt val :)
Excellent video, and very informative! I use a GoPro hero 10 on a chin mount, but I’m thinking about adding an Insta 360 camera to my collection. My question has to do with the editing… Is it difficult to edit and then imported into iMovie, which is where I make my video?
Thanks! In the last part of this video I did some editing to show how it's done. I find it not difficult at all. Instead it's a quite fun/creative part of the work.
@@NomadSweden thanks so much!
great video. any issues with your gopro? i hear it freezes and overheats?
Thanks. No issues at all
Thanks for sharing this useful info.
What's your backpack brand and model, please? Thanks in advance.
Thanks. The vest is from Wlfenduro.com
@@NomadSweden Thanks a lot.
Hi Robert, this was really helpful thanks! Can you explain how you have the intercom audio hooked up to the GoPro? Do you have another mic in the helmet or do you hook up the intercom mic itself to the GoPro somehow?
And as a follow up does this not cause issues in the rain? I have the GoPro Media Mod thingy and it has a mic input, but I read online it is not waterproof so I'm worried it will kill the GoPro if used in the rain.
Yes I use the media mod mic input. It is not waterproof but rain has been no problem for me. Video about this coming in November 👍🏻
That is what I was gonna ask too😂 I don’t use the Sena intercom camera anymore, so I dont have the voice of friends in my videos. But, I noticed that the external mic I use (Rhode) catches the sounds from my intercom speaker if I am riding slow. So, I will try to push the mic a bit backwards near my ear and try to see if it catches intercom speakers clearly… this is an easy trick and not methodological. Curious about your solution as well👍
@@ikiteke und hat es funktioniert?
Nice..i like your videos and i'm using your advices as tips to do my best for motovlog .well..still learning ;) could you send me a link for those mirrors. i want to put at my suzuki v strom and make some motovlogs. looking forward. greetings from weatside Greece and Samos island. keep riding safe guys 👊🏍💨
Thank you! Check the links in my videos and you will find the mirrors. I also have a video about the mirrors with links
Thank you Robert. Which GoPro would you recommend?
I think 8 and above is good because of good stabilization. The 10 and above have the water-fobic suface on the lense which repells water very fast.
Magic Man. Hi Robert. You do a really good job. Skydio have a good warranty? Duct tape the battery in or velcro next time. The 360 was pretty darn trick. Hey, you can't be using it for a weed whacker. That won't do. Noraly has hers combined. Easy editing. Let's see some more. Go riding before the snow flies.
Thanks Sam. I can't use the X3 as weed whacker... I have the X2 for that. Not sure about the Skydio warranty. That's the problem when they only have US/Canada offices. Lets see. And yes, time to ride!
@@NomadSweden How do you add music? This stuff is great as long as someone else does it. many use a pro editor/production person if they have a million followers
@@samhill3496 Adding music is just dragging a file on to the timeline. It's finding the music that's the problem. Let's get a million viewers and I can skip that part :D
Look look, i watched to the end 😊.
You forgot “cheerios” 😅
Hehe forgot. Next time
Hei can you please share what kind of programs you using to make the videos. :)
I use Final Cut Pro on Mac 👍🏻
👌
Can you please share how did you exactly connect gopro with intercom's microphone? I'm currently on the hunt for a good helmet mic
Video coming up november 6 that shows it all
@@NomadSweden Thanks. I would like to make some kind of travelvlog and to be able to tell a story while riding. Looking forward to your new videos/series, I enjoy wathing them
Great tips! I have the X2 on my nav bar up front. Its really annoying to see it in the gopro hemlet shot. I like how your able to fold it out of the way like that!
True, I think that's a strong case for buying that motorcycle mounting kit from insta 360
Was the mount on the back the same mount?
If you mean the hole in the bottom to screw the stick on? Yes its the same
Can you give some info about your gopro mountin setup on your helmet?
Check my latest videos
The intercom audio video
Why am I watching this again 13 hours later??? 😁😁😂😂🤣🤣😍😍
Because 360 videos has so many angles to view from? 😂
@@NomadSweden 😁nooooooo, because you are the perfect spokesman for products for riding. Again, my one friend who makes videos on youtube for fair rides in NL and Belgium and Germany does some of his videos in 360 where you can use your mouse or I just grab the screen with my mouse and pull the view around to what I want to see what is happening. And in his upper left of the screen are 4 arrows you can also click on to make it move also. So, everyone can view what they want to view all the time. Let us have the control. 😁thanks again.
Stabilization looks a bit better too on the X3
I can't promise you that I won't do anything stupid, but I can promise you that I want that 360 camera😅
I do all my editing with an ipad. Does it still fit my workflow? So can I do the extra step with my iphone or ipad?
Yes there is a nice app to do the same and even more on iOS
@@NomadSweden cool! Might need to get this as a second camera to replace my old trusty gopro hero 5 :)
Thanks but i think x3 is better because boosting coloura and audio ❤
Have you ever considered fitting a HealTech QuickShifter to the T7?
Nope :) never considered it
I've watched some conversion vids which look good
I want One X3, but I still use One X2 because One X3 have no Premium Lens Guard accessory available, but without this lens guard I afraid to use the camera together with motorcycle ride. Some rocks, insects or tree branches may damage camera lens (at least anti-reflective coating will be scratched fast).
Indeed, the 360s are vulnerable like that. I take extra precautions but it's not 100% safe of course. The protection should be coming for the X3 too.
Great review. Recently bought the X2. I set it at 3K/100 to reduce the file sizes. But it plays back the video in Slow Motion. Even after editing, it plays in slow motion. Any idea how to remedy the problem?
How do you edit? Which program? This is about frame rate and bot resolution
@@NomadSweden Thanks. I edit with Insta360 Studio 2022 software. What is standard frame rate and bot resolution to be used?
@@srk1200 I shoot in 30 or 60 fps. I use the 360 desktop software to make the 360 video clips, but then I make the actual video edit in Final Cut Pro.
When you play the video and it's slowmotion, is it slow already in the 360 software? In that case I think you should check camera setting to see if it's set to record as slow-mo?
@@NomadSweden Thanks a lot for the suggestion. You are correct, as it records in slow motion. I will check again on the settings
QUESTION SIR: on "360 4k 60fps" what is the highest "resolution" and "bitrate" you can export for a flat video?
Bitrate 120MBPS. Resolution is 5,7k and ho many pixels you get in your flat video depends on "zoom level". Even though you can choose any resolution for the exported flat video the image data will be less the more you zoom in.
@@NomadSweden got it. thanks sir 👍ride safe
I’m getting some great clips but the Insta app software doesn’t seem to let you export it in high definition. Everything looks a blurry mess on you tube, or downloading to my PC, even at 75 bitrate and 30fps, shooting at 5.7K.
Insta response to my questions as a newbie is poor, no suggestions on how to save and upload high resolution clips.
What I’ve learned is that expensive video editing software is needed to produce excellent quality videos using the 360 one X2. Otherwise it’s ok for sharing via smartphones or WhatsApp groups.
I have not tried the mobile editing. But 360 cams will always have bad resolution since the 5,7Mpixel is for the whole sphere, but you only use a small part of it.
That was quite a difference.
Yes indeed. Specially in low light.
Had 1st gen. Took it brazil and filmed new yrs Beach party. Bad lens flare and stitching looked terrible
Imagine a 360 degree camera drone 🤔💭😲
Actually people put a 360 on the drones and it looks awesome
@@NomadSweden you could go underneath stuff and take videos looking up, say if you had a DJI 360 stuck on the back of a drone 😬😎 hmmm gives an idea 💡
Don't get it. This distorted view is making me sick and triggers my "skip this video" finger. Too many creator are using to much tech and are hoping to overcome the lack of deepness.
This is a tech review. But in a story video the story is everything.
iam regret about terrible battery life of x3
Ok mine last a whole day. But my GoPro has really bad battery life
@@NomadSweden Believe it or not; 2-3 hours (i bought it a few daya ago.its brand new) anyway, i like your videos.👋🏽
