    No air vents in a car of this price is insane... I was called crazy by my local dealer when I said I didn't want to wait for a 2024 as he promised it would be upgrades all round.

    the downgrades for 2023 an now also for 2024 make my 2022 awd feel like a real luxury car, even though I don't have full limited as compared to the US, it's fairly close. Plus the colour I have - mystic olive green - has been discontinued, so I feel I now have a collector's car haha!

      These little things that they cut out are what makes it better than a Tesla Y. Removing them will make it as bare as Tesla and we won't be able to justify 5-7k extra because Tesla owners can get the federal rebate.

    They went for a more typical Hyundai USA approach of keeping premium features for the Limited trim. My 2023 SEL feels luxurious now by comparison :) The lack of folding mirrors and rear climate are big omissions to me. Cloth seats and hard plastic: not a big deal.
    Glad I have a 2023 though.

    Most of the cost cutting makes sense if they want better margins but the backseat cuts are bad. Vents aren’t cheap but extremely important, seat-back storage is cheap and useful so that’s weird to cut, the cup holders are fairly nice to have too so that’s sad.

  • @Bum_Hip

    I have a ‘23 SE, with what looks like the same seat material. I wasn’t thrilled to not have leather like seats. BUT… after almost a year of ownership, I have to say, they still look like new, and have proven to be most comfortable.

    If I was buying right now, I’d rush to get a 2023 SEL, or frustratingly have to buy a 2024 Limited. No rear air vents and hard plastic is a huge let down.

  • @jrwaters943
    @jrwaters943 Před 8 měsíci +10

    Hyundai really messed up by cost cutting this to such an obvious degree at the same time as their tax credits are being phased out and the competition, namely Tesla, is cutting prices without removing features.

    My ten year old Ford C-Max SEL has: full leather interior, front heated seats, 10-way power driver seat, soft touch panels on all doors, rear vents, middle seat armrest, two seat pockets, ambient lighting, panoramic moonroof. Its sticker price was originally ~$27k. This $50k Ioniq appears to have fewer creature comforts than a base Kia Soul.

    Interesting changes...but we are super happy with our 2022 Ultimate (Canadian Limited) trim. An incredible car that we put over a 1000km a week on. We have 3 I5's in the family 1 SEL and 2 Ultimates and so far we all love the vehicles.

    The SEL here can be had here with large discounts and the Limited usually has little to no discount. So around here it seems like people are already steering towards the Limited and I imagine Hyundai will have to discount the SEL even more now that they have taken pains to make it less attractive. I’m hoping they will get rid of the blue coolant and add a rear wiper in the 2025. It seems very odd to have a wiper on the N and then act like it’s not necessary on the other trims. I haven’t like the digital rearview mirrors that I’ve tried I find them hard on my middle aged eyes.

    The cost cutting kinda makes sense. However, the no USB-C thing is definitely an oversight; especially since that became a mainstream standard over a year ago. My '23 Kia EV6 GT line came with lots of cool options; I wonder if the 2024's will also get nerfed.

  • @yeoldebrian
    @yeoldebrian Před 7 měsíci

    Thanks so much for this! I'm pretty sure I want an Ioniq 5 but feel a little overwhelmed by all the different options and possibilities. Sounds like I can't get the $7500 rebate anymore beacuse the batteries aren't made in the US? Are a lot of '22s going to be coming out of lease soon, would it be better to buy a used one and get all the features that were stripped out of the '24? What trim level and features are must haves for you?

  • @Yanquetino
    @Yanquetino Před 8 měsíci +7

    Oh, my. Poor decisions from Hyundai, IMHO. Consumers would gladly pay $200 more to have the features changed in the 2024 SEL. Tsk. Well… I prefer a Limited model anyway, so perhaps a moot point for me. I'm now thinking, however, that I might just hold off for the 2025 model with the NACS connector.

    I am so glad I bought a 2023. I bought SE RWD specifically for towing capacity, mileage, and the cloth seats, because even with covers my dogs are brutal on upholstery. These are great, and very dog resistant. I would have liked the auto cargo door closing and folded mirrors, but honestly those are 1st World Plus issues. But the de usion to not include the charger cord? Cheap.

  • @Alloballo123
    @Alloballo123 Před 8 měsíci +7

    The 2023 SE has rear cup holder. Strange that they removed that. And both seats have rear cargo net in 2023 SE. Another difference I noticed: 2023 SE has soft touch leather on all door areas with window button (but doesn't have paper material that's hard plastic). Otherwise, seems the same. Looks like they removed a bunch of things in 2024 SE and SEL compared to 2023. Likely to increase margins after that they thought was establishing reputation of the car. But they moved too soon and too fast. Both 2022 and 2023 don't have a great rep mechanically,.given ICCU and other charging issues. So they're throwing away any possibility of cornering some part of the ev market by continuing the I5 wave. Essentially, their marketing department sucks and is ruining their engineering and design department by privileging marketing and short term profit margins over long term reputation gains and long term profits.

    Well, I had put down the $100 deposit a couple of years ago but it just took too long and Covid didn't help. And every dealer was charging over sticker on top of everything else. Got my $100 back and waited. Long story short, went to 2022 LA Auto show and was blown away by the new Prius.
    Picked up my new Prius Prime on Saturday and it's fantastic and didn't pay over sticker. My daily commute is around 20 miles so more than enough EV range for me.

      After having a few Hyundai models, what I've learned is that a brand new model does have the new model risk. But it seems the marketing team pushes the features of that model and it tends to have a good number of great options. After about 2 years, marketing guys drift off to other new models and the bean counters come in and chip away every year features and cost until a big refresh and the marketing guys come back.

I have driven almost 20K miles in 14 months in all weathers heavy and rain and hot summer weather very pleased with the car . I think Hyundai need to have a good lower priced car to stay in the EV market , I can see BYD creeping up close behind them fast. Thank for the video.

    I don’t know what they are thinking. Only $200 reduction and you lose all these features compared to my 2023. There’s no way I would even consider buying an SEL going forward. They better have some hot deals on the Limited in a year or two, or they have lost me as a customer.

    • @ernestmeunier1401

      I imagine the bigger cost offset is the addition of more airbags in the rear. Without those maybe the downgrade delta would've been $400-500? So if they hadn't downgraded the interior I don't think the MSRP would have stayed the same, given all else equal. If the Ltd has bigger margins maybe they won't need to either raise price nor reduce content to pay for the extra bags?

    I do not understand the removal of rear AC vents - are they trying to sell more Limited?
    if they wanted to do this it would make more sense to only have the base model - SE and Limited model and eliminate the SEL model.

    With all these changes, especially the seat fabric, USB a, and expiring charging standard I'm not buying a 2024 ioniq5. I have to shop other electric cars in case my Odyssey, 170k miles, dies this year. So sad if I end up with another gas car. I know I don't want a hybrid because of reliability.

    The lack of USB C is not a big dwal whatsoever. There are adapters for that. However it seems that they reduced the price by $200USD but took away at least $2000USD worth of equipment. You never mentioned the seats but I doubt it had power seats either….and that is also not important at all either.
