- Malaysian security forces have launched a manhunt for more suspects after arresting an Israeli man, according to a top official. The Israeli man, identified as Shalom Avitan was arrested with six handguns and 200 bullets in Kuala Lampur on March 27. The Malaysian police said Avitan had arrived from the United Arab Emirates on March 12 with a fake French passport. After his arrest, Avitan told authorities he had come to Malaysia on the lookout for another Israeli due to a family dispute. Avitan had also confessed to being on a mission to kill the head of a rival Israeli criminal outfit.

As an american with some knowledge of civilian small arms, but not an 'expert,' the revolver was interesting. That revolver left the factory, probably in Italy, as a cap and ball revolver. Such firearm became obsolete toward the end of the 19th century. In my country it is not considered a legal firearm and is not regulated by federal law.
It still has the loading lever that is used to ram a bullet or paper cartridge into the front of the cylinder. I can see that the original cylinder that would of had nipples for percussion caps appears to have been replaced with one that can be used with modern ammunition. The shown ammunition appears to be 9mm (9x19 parabellum luger) cartridges. 9x19 ammunition generates much higher pressure than that gun was designed to withstand. I assume that revolver was originally for .36 navy ammunition. Originally that revolver would of had a .375 inch diameter barrel that will be inaccurate with a .355 inch diameter 9mm bullets assuming that ammunition would even fire in that gun due to new the replacement cylinder not having the proper dimensions to fire a rimless 9x19 round.
So anyway the shown gun is strange.
But the motives of the arrested Israeli are certainly not clear. If he is a gangster, going all of the way to Malaysia to kill someone sounds like a cover story that a mossad agent would come up with. Malaysia has brutal laws in place for possession of firearms. Not a good place for an Israeli to get arrested. At least in prison he will not get served any pork. They may very well hang him if he is convicted.
I think the revolver was not from the actual photo and only for illustration. From another news clips I saw only pistols with cartridges like baretta or glock but I don’t know exactly what make. But with 200 bullets and 6 handguns most likely he will hang Mossad or not, same with the stupid couple who supplied it. I wonder if the French will appeal on behalf since technically he’s their citizen too.
