Replicating table data from an SAP ECC system with SAP Datasphere using Replication Flows

  • In this video, I'll be going thru the step to enable initial loading an SAP ECC table to SAP Datasphere using the new feature of Replication Flows. This is pretty straightforward for newer S/4HANA systems which allow you to quickly replicate data from S/4HANA with CDS (Core Data Services), giving you all the business context of your data and without the need replicating all your tables and having to remodel your data.
But, in case of an SAP ECC system, these are the different steps needed for replicating your tables.
Please note that to do so, you will have to have the prerequisite of the SAP ECC system (ECC6 EHP8) and DMIS 2018 SP06 / DMIS 2020 SP03 or higher. You will also need to install and configure the SAP Cloud Connector on your On Prem network.
EDIT (21/08/2023) : Contrary to what I say in the video and as noted by a reader in the comments, the SAP Analytics Cloud Agent and SAP Java Connector are not needed for this specific use case of SAP Datasphere replication flows. You can skip these steps also in the SAP Cloud Connector Configuration and you don't need to specify and enable the Agent in On-Premise Data Source configuration on the SAP Datasphere Administration.

Hello Sir. We have one ECC system. We want to extract data data from ECC into SAP datasphere. Is it possible to do live replication without BW bridge. I mean source is ECC system and target is Datasphere. Is it possible.
    Thanks in Advance

How to monitor the triggers or failure in replication if data load gets trigered from datasphere

Hello, thanks for the demo. Is it possible to use dataflow or use direct virtual connection to ECC ?
Is there any contraints (Only full for example) ?

Hello Raphael. Excelente video. We have a scenario where the client wants to use SDI insted. The DMIS is active however they are not using SLT. Is it possible?
    Thanks

Hello Raphael , As you mention that Replications flows in SAP Datasphere allow to replicate the Objects from ODP providers, such as extractors or SAP BW artifacts. Our current as is ECC -BW and future solution will be S4 On cloud - Data Sphere . Can we use the replication flow to use all the SAPI Data sources to fetch data from S4 to DataSphere ? If yes that it will make our life easier as we do not want table replication

Can you please tell me steps about table partition.

Hello @saminenikranthikumar5161, you can launch transaction LTRS, select your mass transfer ID, and specify your Performance Options on the table you wish to replicate. (In replication options, or initial load with ranges for example)
      Hope this helps,
      Best regards,
      R.

Do you recommend using cloud connector instead of a Dpagent to replicate transactional data? Thank you.

      Hello Christian,
The DP Agent is needed for remote table access. In this demonstration, I am replicating data from an ECC system with replication flows, I am therefore using the SAP Cloud connector (enabling Data Flows and Replication flows). Just for your knowledge, DPA is linked to the SDI, and Data flows and Replications Flows actually come from the Data Intelligence technology embedded within SAP Datasphere, thus only requiring the SAP Cloud Connector. So depending if you need to replicate or to a virtual access it is not the same. Of course, you could have both if you wanted, this is what I expain at 5:16 .
      Best regards,
      R.

Hi Raphael, As you shown to fetch data from tables, is it possible to access SAP Standard data sources too ( like BW Data sources) from ECC ?

      Hello,
Not sure to understand the question, do you mean ECC extractors?
Replications flows in SAP Datasphere allow to replicate the following :
      - CDS views (in ABAP-based SAP systems) that are enabled for extraction.
      - Tables that have a unique key (primary key)
      - Objects from ODP providers, such as extractors or SAP BW artifacts.
If you are asking if you can replicate data from a BW data source, as of today, October 2023, Replication Flows in SAP Datasphere allow to replicate data from SAP S/4HANA Cloud and On Premise systems, SAP Business Suite sources, SAP HANA Cloud and On-Premise, SAP BW and SAP BW/4HANA and also MS Azure SQL.
      Best regards,
      R.

@@raphaelwalter7412 Hi Raphael, thank you so much for your response on my question.
Yes, Since we are using SAP ECC (Non-Hana) on premises system along with BW, we are just exploring options is there any possibility to extract data from SAP BW standard data source like 2LIS_11_* using ODP framework from SAP ECC to Datasphere by ignoring SAP BW system completely.
So, are these ECC standard extractors/data sources covered as part of this "- Objects from ODP providers, such as extractors or SAP BW artifacts" to bring into Datasphere from SAP ECC ( Non-hana).
in this video you have shown us how to replicate data from SAP ECC table in very detailed manner. In the same way I would like to know what are the objects are going to cover as part of ODP_BW - ODP Context BW and ODP_SAPI - ODP Context SAPI.
Thanks you so much for your time and efforts to share valuable knowledge for us
      🙏

    Its a wonderful demo.
Can you please help me with the version of ECC system and SLT system?

Good Demo. I would wait for Below questions to be answered as they are vital. Waiting to hear from author and want to ask if data from S4 HANA & ECC can extracted in parallel as only one DP agent can be used.

Hello, maybe this is a translation issue, but I feel a bit of aggressivity in your question and the urgency that you putting into it ("I would wait... vital. Waiting to hear..."). Just for you to know, I do these videos when I have a customer use case that I adressed in my day job, and I hate to see it going to waste. I always assume that if a customer had these questions, there might be others who have the same, or consultants that want to learn about these subjects. As for the questions, I try to answer them, to the best that I can, in a timely manner, when I have the time as this is not my main job, this is an extra. I do not monetize these videos, so I get nothing out of them, except more work. Now that this is set, I'll answer your vital question and hope that you didn't have to wait to much for it... SAP Datasphere allows to have multiple Data Provisioning Agents (DP Agent) defined for different data source connections. The DP Agent acts as a link between your on-premise data sources or third-party cloud databases and SAP Datasphere. In system/configuration, you can define your On Premise Agents and when creating you connection, you can select the corresponding DP Agent. Best of luck
