    I think this is good, but do question whether we should emphasize that vector is pure legacy and really shouldn't be going into new code. Similar to going thru the whole playlist scarcely mentioning generics. I understand that is how things evolved historically, but arguably one could say ArrayList replaced Vector for new code in 1998 (!!) and one should have started shifting hard over to using generics in 2004. Not everyone loves generics in Java, so I guess the point may be debatable.

    hi durga sir, As you told that array list will increase it size by (int_capacity*3/2)+1 . initial is 10 and as per formula it should be 16 if 11'th element is added. but it is actually 15 not 16 . i used reflection to get the capacity .please let me know sir i am confued who is correct. abstract class ArrayListHelper {
    static final Field field;
    static {
    try {
    field = ArrayList.class.getDeclaredField("elementData");
    field.setAccessible(true);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    throw new ExceptionInInitializerError(e);
    }
    }
    @SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
    public static int getArrayListCapacity(ArrayList a) {
    try {
    final E[] elementData = (E[]) field.get(a);
    return elementData.length;
    } catch (Exception e) {
    throw new RuntimeException(e);

    • @mehasinha2487
      @mehasinha2487 Před 8 lety

      +Siraj Uddin If you want a thread safe application/code then you will go for vector as it has synchronized methods. If you don't intend to keep your code thread safe( i-e only 1 thread can use the object to invoked the methods) then you can go for arraylist.

    • @MajidKhan-wk8ph
      @MajidKhan-wk8ph Před 7 lety +1

      But We can make ArrayList Is synchronize by using
      Collections.synchronizedList(list)
      then what is need of vector

    • @ibtd
      @ibtd Před 7 lety

      Vector class is the legacy class(Coming from old version of Java) which provides default thread safety. But then There was a need of a class which could operate multithreads on its objects without waiting for the other threads to complete. And ArrayList does not provide default synchronization.

    • @prakashchapagain1861
      @prakashchapagain1861 Před 7 lety

      +Majid Khan if we do so then it becomes too much lengthy and readibility of code is going to increase since in vector by default syncronization is there no need to worry about readiability of code .
