    I can see it in your face that you're progressively enjoying the creation of your flight videos. To you it's like having a group of people (your viewers) with you on sometimes lonely flights. Us viewers are fortunate to be able to watch the adventures of Captmoonbeam. All very entertaining and learning experiences for us.

    I grew up near float planes in Quebec - my great uncle owned the local "airport" ... two large hangers with fuel service. I love the Grand Caravan. In doing work in Belize, I still remember landing in soccer fields adjoining local schools, or flying along the coast through a fog embankment. Easy peezey. I lived in Victoria, BC, and I thought I would have seen more Grand Caravans. I did see a good deal of De Havailand Beaver's and flew on them, but I never flew on a GC. Nice video!

    Part 23 certification requires stall speed of 61 knots or less in landing configuration for single engine aircraft. The 208 stalls at 64 knots with condition lever in low idle and 61 knots in high idle in the landing configuration. The high idle along with vortex generators on the Fowler flaps necessitated all that for certification.

    • @GaryMCurran
      @GaryMCurran Před 6 lety

      You should. The Q&A really helps a lot of us who are into the details of the airplanes and the flights. Even those who ARE flying still may never have the opportunity to fly a Caravan, or a M2, let alone an XLS, so there's a lot to learn and be interested in. For example, how many PPLs, even with an Instrument and Multi rating, get to use radar? An explaination of that might might interesting, or the FMS in the XLS (since I'm now working on FMCs and MCDU/CDUs.) You know as well as I do that pilots crave information about airplanes and systems. :D

  • @bombaytaxidriver
    @bombaytaxidriver Před 6 lety

    Excellent video - thank you. As a fellow former commercial pilot, I really appreciate your read backs, as it is obvious you have a) been alert and paid attention, and b) you read them back in a clear, comprehensive, and professional manner. It was good to hear ATC also appreciate your read back, as they obviously value this. I see so many recordings of hurried, incorrect, incomprehensible pilot communications to ATC which really make me cringe, and to be honest, it gets my "goat up"! I wish more people would adhere to the original "Aviate, Navigate, Communicate" school of thought, and realise that although ATC are busy, read backs are not a "speed test", and ATC would prefer you get it right and correct, rather than just read it back the quickest. Keep up the professional flying ...... really enjoy your channel. Best wishes from the UK.

    My first Typerating was ATR72-500, which cover the whole ATR family besides from the new -600. The ATR72 is a 70-72 seater and the smaller version 42 is a 50 seater. The Shorter version was really nice to fly, especially the 42-500 which has the same power as the ATR72-500, just much shorter. The ATR72-600 with updated aviaonics is a cool airplane, flies very well, but a bit like a truck as you said about the xls.
    Now I'am currently flying 737-800NG, which really feels like a big a truck, it's really slow on handling turns, and there is a weird deadzone on the yoke. But it's reallly nice and easy to fly. And I prefer flying jets over turboprop, because the jet gets you above most weather ! Even tho the ATR would go up to FL250. Great video, love your vlogs !

    • @captmoonbeam
      @captmoonbeam  Před 6 lety

      thanks SVT. Getting above the weather is the thing that the jets always have over the turboprops. I'd always rather go over it than through it. I would think the 737 is a great plane to fly. Be safe out there SVT.

    My whole life growing up as a kid that's all I could think about is flying and wanting to become a pilot... back in the 70s I had every monthly issue of flying magazine and airplane magazine... and you know how life is... sometimes things just don't turn out how you thought they were going to... never realized my dream of becoming a pilot!
    I'm enjoying your videos more than anything else on CZcams... I so appreciate your including in the videos getting up in the morning and doing breakfast and traveling to the airport and you show the whole show... it's really cool seeing what the daily life of a pilot is like.... thanks for all the work you put into filming all aspects of your
    day! I especially enjoy how you have such a humble and courteous attitude to all people as you travel!
    Now I'm 53 years old and could kick myself up and down for never realizing my dream when I was younger as I always thought I would growing up.... watching your videos definitely confirms that being a pilot would have been the perfect career for me!
    May the Lord watch over you on your journeys...Thanks again for the great videos!👍😁✈🇺🇸⛪

    Wow that Caravan looks brand new! All the Caravans I've seen are workhorses that are decidedly utilitarian. I bet that aircraft has less than 1000 hours.

    Great video as always. Thanks for answering so many questions. BTW - I hope you own stock in SWA.

    Heard you on frequency today (2-2-18) at Salina,KS. I landed behind you and was taxing out as you were rotating. If you were filming/recording ATC listen for “Lakes Air 25”, that was me. 👨🏻‍✈️😎

      I remember hearing you. I had my go pro up but, accidentally double clicked the REC button. No video.

      Bummer. I wanted to run over and introduce myself but as it turned out we both had super quick turns. Next time!

      Arthur wall “Lakes Air” that brings back memories, got my start there, it was good flying and terrible pay

      Nick TheAV8R much hasn’t changed since then 😂. Enjoying my time here though.

      Arthur wall Lakes is probably why I still tend to hand fly to FL180. I have flown with people who throw the autopilot on at wheels up (it seems) and I never understood it

    one of your best videos yet, great work! couple points: 1. lol at getting cleared to CYT for a 600+nm leg, did that catch you off guard? 2. re: mike, so you don't have to be typed as a copilot, even if you're the pilot flying? is the pilot not flying PIC then? 3. do you still fly the king air? love the KA, a vlog would be amazing

    • @captmoonbeam
      @captmoonbeam  Před 6 lety

      Being below most of the IFR traffic I was expecting that. I'm always PIC in the Citation XLS but, I'm only the flying pilot every other leg. It's been about four years since I last flew the King Air
