  • I am attempting a completion challenge - collect all rares (red box items) for the Yellowboze section ID. I'm only using items/weapons found by my characters during play. There are 3 Yellowboze characters (HUcaseal, FOnewm, and RAcaseal) who will share a common bank (a quality of life patch provided by Aleron Ives) to collect rares in and share some resources (weapons, materials, and units only ; not non-rare frames/armor or low level techs[less than level 29])
    My attempt differs from Starv's, he is only using 1 character and is limiting himself to items only his character could find through normal gameplay. I'm allowing myself 3 characters and I will also be taking advantage of Sylverant Event rewards and Garon's Shop upgrades (i.e. Cure/Freeze & adding hit % to enemy part weapons.) I've also given myself the option of getting S-ranks for these characters to use in this challenge. I am using vanilla drop rates only, any custom quests I use will be downloaded from or played on the Sylverant server. I am also now playing in groups - unfortunately my PSO time is limited and playing solo only is very lonely.

    This was made into an ISO from a disc I own using the Cleanrip Homebrew app on a Nintendo Wii. It was played on a modified Gamecube with GCloader, EON GCHD Mk-II adapter, and Laserbear Industries' GCloader SD mount.
    Thanks to emukidid for Swiss and Cleanrip!

    Special thanks to Aurelli for the custom particle effects patch!

    It's always interesting to see people still playing retro games like this. There's a decent amount of people still tooling around with PSO2 and NGS but the fact that people still prefer to spend hours upon hours on PSO and PSU is really telling of an age where there was more love and soul put into a game, and it wasn't just to make money.

      I tried PSU a couple times but never had any interest in PSO2.

      PSO2 does not have any of the charm of its predecessor and winds up feeling, generic in the end.

    I’d love to see this remade for the newer console, or just straight up ported.
    So many memories on this game.
    Love it, the music the vibe, the feels.

    Funny story, i put in so many hours into this game growing up. Loved it to the point that me and my brother put a chart up on the wall of all the rares we were trying to get and how long it took for us to get these rares offline.
    Me and my best friends of 20 years are friends because of this game.
    So one day i leave my gamecube memory card at my friends house and my friends cousin went into it and stole all my rares and rare mags and left me with monomates in the bank 😂 thats when i quit. Sad times

      My understanding is episode 1 and 2 were GameCube and Xbox only and later released Blue Burst for PC.

    looks fantastic. I truly feel this version looks even better than the PC version because of the gamecube GPU specific graphical effects (especially the water effects)

    • @diasflac0g
      @diasflac0g Před 2 měsíci +2

      It is. It's much prettier than the Xbox/PC Blue Burst version.
      The final PC version (Blue Burst) is a port of the Xbox version which is inferior to the GC version in terms of graphics/effects. However for some odd reason the water looks even worse on BB than even Xbox.
      With that said both Xbox/PC BB are missing many of the cool graphical effects from the GC version. Such as transparencies from certain effects and of course all of the reflections and water textures from the CCA area of the game.
      This gives the Xbox and specially the PC version a very dull and plain look in those areas.
      SEGA took advantage of the extra features that the ATI GPU provided to the Game Cube. These technologies were exclusive to the GC's ATI GPU. That's why many of these effects are missing from the Xbox/PC version.
      The only thing that the PC version offers in terms of graphics that both GC and Xbox can't do is proper wide screen support and native 1080p/4k resolutions. This makes the game look super crisp on a modern HDTV. The downside to this, is that this game is very old and the low polygon characters look terrible in such clarity.
      The absolute best way to play this game (IMO at least) is on a GC (or even a wii) and a CRT TV. I am perfectly aware that not everyone has access to a CRT TV now days but IMO the GC version on a CRT TV looks incredible.
      Anyways I hope that wasn't a super nerdy and easy to understand explanation haha.

      @@diasflac0g I agree!! I always play on my gamecube through my trinitron with component cables, and it looks AMAZING

    • @DeafeningCha
      @DeafeningCha Před 2 měsíci

      The Xbox has better texture quality than GameCube, noticeable on HDTV and CRT. Especially the beams of light across the locked doors in Forest, they have visible waves on Xbox whereas on GameCube they're just thick, slightly vibrating lines. It's also nice seeing a little more detail on characters as well.

    • @ragolradio
      @ragolradio  Před 2 měsíci

      @DeafeningCha It’s a shame the Xbox controls are terrible. Xbox also has no issues with the lag in Seabed that Gamecube experiences.

    I miss the ps2 so much, they had hands down the best games back then
    The music and vibe that ps2 games had back then was something unreal compared to games today
    Don't get me wrong, there's great modern games but they fail to hit that feeling

    Can you explain how you're able to play the full PSO Ep 1+2 experience on Gamecube? I thought there were certain functions that were locked behind online, like converting your Photon Drops into rare weapons.

    • @ragolradio
      @ragolradio  Před 3 měsíci

      There are still private servers running Garon’s shop to convert PDs. Sylverant and Schtserv are the two i’m familiar with.

    • @ragolradio

      There is a patch that lets you assign 4 different palettes using the c-stick. It’s on PSO palace website created by Aleron Ives.
