Absolutely LOVED hearing Exo for the first time! Good grief what an immensely talented group -- what else from Exo do I need to check out?
Their debut song is called Mama and is like a Gregorian Chant. One of my favorites is Miracles in Christmas and Tempo. A good sample selection can be found from one of their live concerts where they did an acoustical medley. EXO(엑소)- Acoustic Session + Lady Luck +(시선둘,시선하나)What If.. This is a multi talented group of young men. Looking forward to your reaction. I actually am waiting for your review, the first time I have ever choose that notification.

They are the vocal kings in the industry as they all can really sing, and their vocal trinity - Chen, Baekhyun and D.O. - are super well-known and appreciated by critics. The more you listen to them the more you’ll love them. In addition to that, the solos of the members are super good. @PeterBarber AHHH!!! A NEW REACTOR TO EXO!! I am 73 and discovered 3rd generation EXO accidentally, after watching DOH(DO) KYUNGSOO'S K-Drama, 100 Days My Prince. He is known for his adlibs and runs and downright smooth voice & can belt but rare moments.
If you CZcams EXO'S concert: DROP THAT, RUN, LET OUT THE BEAST, etc. where main rapper (low voice) PARK CHANYEOL starts playing a powerful electric guitar solo against red light bathing him. He is super talente in various instruments plus DJ's in this segment of HIGH-ENERGY EXO ICONIC SONGS.
They debuted in 2012 w/a new concept, 12 members: Chinese and Korean awesome singers/dancers. LUHAN, ZTAO (martial arts/sword) & Kris left (reasons for leaving)
In the limited time I've been aware of EXO, all songs are loved, their harmonizations amazing, vocals are strong: ALL sing amazingly and together, a powerhouse.

There are officially 9 members but Lay is actually a solo artist in China. Because of political reasons he only occasionally performs with the group. Right now Kai is in the military. They only have one member that still needs to serve. Sehun is the youngest member so after he serves the group will be entirely back together again.
Sehun has also begun his enlistment :)

In Super M Baekhyun mostly sings those hard vocals. He cannot be chosen by the government to sing 3 times for National Pick and recently with American Anthem also! Not including Baekhyun is actually insulting to him and try to hide him or to really putting up DO and putting down Baekhyun. This is what DO's stan are. Really apprciate ypur breakdown, thank you for the technicals! Theres all 6 vocalists that hit that head voice falsetto, if you watch the cream soda recording booth behind the scenes is very interesting to see how they record. The other two with lower voices are the rappers but great singers as well. EXO discography is absolute gold. I was never into kpop because all the popular groups my friends liked were just not that memorable to me. Then I found Exo. They got REAL VOCALS, RNB, SOUL, FUNK, you name it, but still distinctly EXO. They are quintessentially kpop but way beyond kpop. It is timeless great music. They are also the very few that do proper ballad songs. Simply stunning.

You’ll miss out without Lay and Kai, but you’ll get a good feel for everyone else’s voice and style and you’ll hear a really good sample of their music. You really can’t go wrong, though. Some of my favorites are Obsession, Monster, Tempo, Love Shot, Ko Ko Bop, and Call Me Baby.

Man, awesome analysis! I love the video, EXO is super talented, EXO "Tempo" is the song that got me into kpop, it's literally mind blowing. I just subscribed on the channel, I love when music professionals do this type of analysis.
EXO were originally 12 members 6 operating in Korea and 6 in China. Three members filed a lawsuit against the company and left. A member just left the company but he says he's still a member of EXO if they ever want to perform with him. Of the remaining eight, two have been conscripted in the army for their compulsory military service. In this video, Kai was missing as he had been enlisted just before they started filming. Sehun followed suit later the same year of the album release. That's why you're seeing only 7. At them moment, they're 6, though. We're currently waiting for Kai and Sehun to come back safely before we can make a full member comeback.

as an example kpop girl group TripleS has 24 members while Exo’s “younger brother”group (same company but debuted 4 years later after exo) NCT has 26 members (6 sub units with different music styles and concepts per subunit with some subunits having permanent members and other subunits mix and match a set of members that suit a album best per comeback)

I’m pretty new to EXO too and I would agree with everyone suggesting their Killing Voice performance. But if you want specific tracks, I would suggest checking out Call Me Baby, Monster, Obsession, Growl, Tempo, Hear Me Out and Love Me Right to get their full range of styles/ genres. they have a very wide range, and that’s before each member’s solo style.
There is also an amazing behind the scenes for this track if you’re interested in seeing each member record their vocals. It all looks so effortless but I’m sure it not!!
If you remember, Forestalla covered Exo Mama ,that song is exo's debut song. This was not even dust on top of the surface lol. So i will be very happy to see you doing exo reactions after this too.

For your question with the member numbers, they started with 12 members, now they have 8 (technically 9 but one member has been inactive for 7 years) but you may see less in certain videos because they were completing mandatory military service in Korea during that promotion. Obsession is their song with the least members at 6 (Xiumin and D.O. were in the military). Here in Cream Soda there is 7 because Kai, the main dancer, is in the military

As a side note there are very few bass singers in kpop. Chaneol is EXO's lowest vocalist and I think he is a Baritone maybe. He is also a talented rapper. You will note the singers will appear in and out of their videos through the years as they are pulled out to serve their mandatory military commitments. Kai is not in the Cream Soda video but did make the recording before his enlistment date. Have fun falling into the KPOP rabbit hole of talent.

I recommend: EXO Killing Voice, All their title tracks (it's a lot yes, but you will not regret it), Universe WInter Special album and literally any live and band performance cuz it's just perfection. Also, all of them have solo projects: Baekhyun, Chen, D.O (Doh Kyungoo) main vocals and Suho and Xiumin sub-vocals, Kai all rounder, and Chanyeol and Sehun rappers with sub unit EXO-SC. And EXO-CBX subunit with Baek,Chen and Xiumin is just iconic and perfect as well.
