  • The vines are waking up and we need to get the vineyard into tip top condition ready for the summer.
Catch wires, water shoots, grass cutting, fixing broken wires etc
All of a sudden the vines have woken up from their slumber and it has caught me napping. So, hoping for some dryer weather, I gathered my vineyard tools and set about getting our vineyard ready for the year.
I've written a book!! On how to start a vineyard and is available on Amazon on the following link: amzn.eu/d/5ZER7c8

hey, thanks for your videos, they are really helpfull. What space did you leave between each wine row? Is it 2 meters?

Hi there. Yes, about 2.4 meters between rows and about 1.5 meters between each vine. That seems to about right. A

Are the vines you are pruning around 9:30 in their second year now?
Thanks for all the great videos!

Hi there. Yes, this is their second year. Most are doing ok, but a few others may take another year to get established properly.

@@mycountrylife810 Thanks for the reply, I just started my own vineyard and I'm constantly wondering 'how it is supposed to look' at a certain time during the season and what I should prune or not. Did you cut all the vines back to one shoot in the first year? Or let all 2 or 3 establish?

planting my own vines this weekend
Rather weather delayed, but the channel is really useful. I hope there will be a series on wine making to follow

is there a reason you switched from wood posts to metal posts? In the earlier videos it looked like every post was wood. Was using metal cheaper, more manageable, or easier to set up?

Hi there. We decided to go metal in the end as they should last a life time. Although they are more expensive, they shouldn't require any more attention. The wooden ones will probably need replacing in about 5 years (10 years in total). It will be a hassle so perhaps I should have gone metal from the start. A

My vines have been awake growing since the first week of February here in california vines are 5-6 years old, were both in the same hemisphere so thats a plus your vines will produce fruit and you will pick around the same time that I will be picking. None of the local vineyards around mine have any growth so far and are just starting budbreak and im sitting here with flowers on my grapes and they are pretty close to starting to set fruit.

Wow, that's amazing, you must have a super climate. It's still chilly here in the uk. Can't wait for summer.
