Thanks for leaving this video up even though the product is discontinued! You know, there are so many features that you forget until you look at the video and see what they are and how they are used.
Really pleased with my purchase of the EU version of this, thought I was mad spending this much on a rucksack, but it's worth every penny . Can fit loads in the rucksack itself, but being able to attach the daylite plus increases the capacity by 20l, and even with that attached, it's so comfortable to carry. The AG system really does seem to make a big difference.
Thanks! Does the hip belt pivot independently at all so that the pack does not want to tilt left and right with each step? I just got a Gregory Baltoro 95 that's doing that, and I'm considering replacing it.
One thing I didn't see mentioned is the ability to strap on a daylite plus pack ... That is a really great feature if you just wanted to keep the top lid pack on the backpack for more storage and then use the daylite plus for a side trail pack ... One question I have : Is it a good idea to go to an authorized osprey dealer to get the perfect fit for the hip belt and shoulder harness ? ...
Good call! We often avoid using other packs in our videos to prevent the assumption that those accessories are included. The Daylite is a great separately sold add-on to go with the Aethers. Also, it's always a good idea to have an authorized Osprey dealer help you fit your pack. That will guarantee you have the right fit to keep you comfy on the trail. Cheers!
What an excellent review! Please if possible... could you point out where one would attach a shotgun?? Like a Benelli M4... Just for reference.. Not sure what people carry but if it can fit a M4.. It can fit anything else!
I think I would attach a shotgun or any rifle using the side compression straps. There are axe loops that can be used to hold trekking poles, but I think that the bungee material in the top loops might not be stiff enough for a weapon. Be safe out there.
@@Enwild Thats probably what i will end up doing, ill probably ad another Velcro to hold it more securely! First though i have to justify carrying extra 5 pounds of weight which is the weight of the shotgun. Thanks for the review
Excellent review. I'm thinking of buying the Osprey Aether AG 85. Unfortunately the European models don't come with a daypack that you can take of. In the comments I read the daypack is 10-18 liters but it's not included in the European models. Does that mean the European models have less capacity?
Hello and thank you for watching! You are correct that packs can vary between the European and American models. The best thing to do to is to check the specs. Osprey has listed on the European site that this pack comes in a 60L and 70L size, so essentially it just does not include the day pack, but other wise the packs should be similar to one another!
Great video! Could you tell me the differences between this one and the Xenith 88? where both stand out? and why should i choice one over another? thank you very much
Hey, thanks! The main difference between those packs is the backpanel/carry system. The Aether AG 85 uses Osprey's Anti-Gravity system, which has a tensioned-mesh backpanel that extends around the hipbelt. The Xenith 88 has a more "standard" Airscape backpanel design which will carry closer to your back, but likely not ventilate as well as the Aether. The Xenith is rated for a bit higher maximum weight, but the Aether could prove more comfortable with mid-weight or lower pack loads. Happy Trails!
Belt pockets are often a problem i was interested in the Deuter aircontact 75+10, the first thing i did when i tried it in the shop is to check if my phone fits in the pocket and it didn't, it's so stupid to concieve backpack with belt pocket that does't fit to most common phones. Can we attach the lid to the shoulders straps?
There are very few backpacks on the market that have hipbelt pockets large enough to fit larger smartphones. Hipbelt pockets are not meant to hold heavy gear, so manufacturers make them pretty small. I personally have an iPhone 7 Plus and I have not found a hipbelt that will hold it. I would not suggest attaching the lid to the shoulder straps, that sounds uncomfortable. Instead, I'd look for some type of pack pocket or external storage like this from Gossamer Gear: www.gossamergear.com/products/shoulder-strap-pockets Good luck! -Gear Specialist Becky
The length should be sufficient, but if the pack is overloaded the straps will have less available slack. In most cases there won't be an issue. Happy Trails!
No airflow between colthes and back, only between clothes and backpack, so it doesn't prevent to sweet but evacuates humidity, it's better to let airflow between clothes and back in my opinion, some feedback?
Yeah, a backpack, even one with great back ventilation, probably won't actually prevent you from sweating (though good ventilation does prevent heat from being trapped). A lightweight shirt, with wicking fabric (avoiding cotton), will help move the moisture away from your skin and will help a ventilated backpack suspension system work to its best.
One thing I can't figure out; what are the extra two female buckles on the right shoulder side of the pack? These aren't on the other side. If anyone knows fill me in.
Luke actually points that out around 7:40. The front compression straps can loop around and compress the pack even further if you are going lighter and need to secure your load.
Hi there! i read somewhere that this pack does not really have 85L of capacity and that that number is only reached if you include what the day pack can carry when detached... is this true? thank you!!
Thanks for the comment. We spoke to our friends at Osprey and here's the info we received: The lid, when attached to the pack, is 10 liters in capacity. The main pack body is 75 liters by itself. When the lid is removed and deployed into the daypack, it becomes an 18 liter pack. When the lid is truly being used as the lid of your pack, it is 85 liters total with the main body. The liter capacities will vary slightly by size.
It depends on what you plan to use it for! The Kajka weighs about 7.5 lbs and has a wooden frame, with a solid ergonomic backpanel, while the Aether weighs 5.25 lbs with a LightWire aluminum frame and tensioned mesh backpanel. Both will carry loads well, but the Aether is lighter and a little more breathable.
Hi Scott! Osprey indicated that their focus on the new Aether packs was maximum versatility and fit. The current model is equipped to fit a larger demographic and comes with more adjustments for optimum fit. The AG design is still available on the Atmos series.
What I would like to see is a video that shows me that it can hold everything I need for a 10 day hiking trip. All the camping gear and food I'll need plus carry my 15 to 20 pounds of DSLR photography gear. No drone, but such bulky things as a 70-200mm lens, and tripod. Al the videos I've seen with Photographers they're just going out on day hikes. I'm going to be 10 days out /away from civilization.
Thanks for the comment. An 85 liter pack should be large enough for all the gear you mentioned, but that all depends on how packable and lightweight your camping gear is. It sounds like a great trip. Good luck!
I have a Teton 4600, which is a 65L pack. Just got back from a 6 day trip into the Sierras. Not a great experience with the Teton. The suspension is not as well thought out as the Osprey. There was a lot of feeling like my pack was moving side to side on uneven ground. I felt like I was more fatigued every day. I'm selling the Teton, and getting another pack, Osprey or not.
Some come with a rain cover but not the removable day pack i think. and vise versa. Id get the one that has the removable day pack then buy a rain cover. idk y ospreys dont have one with every bag i hate that. the ones on amazon dont have the cool removable day pack but instead have a raincover
So here's the deal. Since 2017, if you purchased your pack in Europe or from a European seller, Osprey included a rain cover but no day lid. If you purchased from a US seller, you would receive a day lid but no raincover. The ones you are seeing on Amazon are European sellers.
This pack has a daylid, which means the lid of the pack converts into a small, removable daypack. An Osprey Daylite is a different product. The daylite is sold separately. You can see it here: www.backcountryedge.com/osprey-daylite-2016.html
Hey, thanks for the question! The women's specific version is the Ariel. The link is for the 75L version www.backcountryedge.com/osprey-ariel-ag-75-women-s-2017.html
thanks for watching! The US versions do not come with a raincover like the EU versions. Instead they come with the convenient daylid which we have found to be a more desirable feature. Raincovers can be purchased separately. Here is a link for reference: www.backcountryedge.com/osprey-ultralight-raincover-2015.html
We've got a lot of new content coming up shortly, including the newest Osprey packs. Unfortunately, we're not able to say exactly when the new Talon/Tempest will get rolled out. Thanks for watching!
A lot depends on how much volume you need, since there is quite a bit of difference between a 65 and 85 liter pack. The pack designs are very similar, though the Atmos will be the lighter of the two packs (at comparable capacities). One point to consider is that the Aether has an interchangeable shoulder harness and a moldable hipbelt. If you take the hipbelt to an Osprey retailer with an oven, they can heat it for you to speed up the molding process. If you typically fall within standard sizes, then the Atmos should be a little easier to fit. Both packs are great, you really can't go wrong! Thanks for watching!
Some manufacturers make different versions of a product for different markets. The pack demonstrated in the video was manufactured for the US market, and may vary from the versions developed for other markets.
Yes, unfortunately, European customers received a rain cover. The day lid pack is only available to those who purchase in the US. Sorry, we don't really cover the Euro market.

Still have the older version.
That day pack is a game changer.

I got this bag from you and its amazing.
Rain cover need also a luck :) but over all this bag is perfect for outdoors extreme activity peace from Philippines
Going to do a 4 day in Desolation Wilderness and got this pack. I feel like I'm ready for WWIII.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!
Thank you! it helped
Great review. My only gripe is it would have been nice knowing specifically what the differences are between the AG and non AG versions.
AG is Osprey's Anit-Gravity suspension system. It's much nicer on the shoulders and back.
I’m sold
Thank u ^^
I got the rainproof cover with it instead
Thanks! Does the hip belt pivot independently at all so that the pack does not
want to tilt left and right with each step? I just got a Gregory Baltoro 95

You're welcome, thanks for watching! The hipbelt on the Aether AG 85 is not set up to pivot

Quick question in regards to the frame.
Is the frame flat or does it have contoured steel? Hope I described it properly. Cheers
The Aether AG 85 has Osprey's LIghtWire full peripheral frame, which will be curved in places to follow the backpanel and pack. Thanks for watching!

The only backpack that provides air flow between back and clothes is a very "arc'd" Zpacks Arc Haul.

Considering this or the Teton 5500. The Teton is half the price, which I'm sure means lesser quality. Has anybody compared them?

Hi
Yeh I worked it out
Just had to navigate the rucksack for 5mins
But thanks.
Does anyone know the minimum height of this pack? For instance, if I removed the top lid and cinched the pack down, what is the height?
about 24" to 24 1/4", measuring from the top of the frame to the bottom. I have a Small (16-19in). Not sure if that makes a difference.
Is this the large or the medium?
Medium
One more question is the size the capacity of the pack or the size for the backpacker?
And thanks for the reply
The "85" references capacity, as in 85 liter capacity, whereas the Medium is a size to fit the backpacker based on torso length
I just got mine there nothing to turn it in Day lid pack wtf
