- Amidst the hustle and bustle of Miami Art Basel, Chris sits down with artist friend Mear One during his “Metaphysical Surrealism” solo show. The two discuss graffiti history, Mear’s involvement in it, how it differs from street art, psychedelic research, profound memories, his artistic inspiration and the messages he is currently conveying through his body of work.
About the Artist:
Mear One is an American artist based in Los Angeles, known for his often-political street graffiti art. Mear One is associated with CBS and WCA crews. As a graphic designer, Mear One has designed apparel for Conart, Kaotic, as well as his own Reform brand.

Beautiful episode! Thank you for sharing your story and amazing artwork. I love all you brave souls and keep creating. I really liked being able to roll with the punches and reinventing yourself. Nice interview--I like this sound studio/podcast feel complete with headphones, more obvious sound equipment and chair underlighting.
The conversation that unfolds from 16:45 interests me about Mear One's experience and feeling about the societal fine art world and galleries. I feel this conversation gives the interview one of its sweet-spots of positive momentum by the time we reach 18:56 about creating an alternative space in art. I love how Chris is propelled into the question that follows and we from here we really start to investigate Mear One's style of art, this niche of Metaphysical Surrealism.
I love how mature, compassionate, reflective and unselfish Mear One's outlook is about the sacrifices and struggle his Mother experienced as he remembers how she poured into his talent and his future at 28:33. Even though this was a response ramping up to answer Chris' question about the effect of entheogens on Mear One's art, the fact he became slightly wrapped into a tangent of his background story is actually very touching, from my perspective. As a single mother of boys just to hear Mear One speak this way is healing for the oftentimes thankless motions I go through in my own experience with a current tween and teen. I can only hope my children will make the best use of their blessings like this artist has.

Nice one. Was great to hear Mear talk at length... Have met him briefly a couple times, but he was always soft spoken/quiet... So good to see him speaking freely about his work/history. Have always appreciated his political/spiritual/esoteric voice in the art realms... Not many others out there actually talking about these things in a clear, compelling way, if at all... Big ups.
