Frank Zappa's compositions are so easily recognisable, and this is a nice respectful rendition.
They did old Frank proud i'd say.
@@2boredfortv just I bug b b him kooo pop h ok jjn
Esatto rispettosa ,non sempre lo sono ,alcuni fanno delle variazioni non in linea con lo spirito di Zappa 🙂
I have been listening to Frank for literally 50 years now. The more I hear, especially now that I hear others pick up and play his music, is the more that I realize what an awesome composer he was. Certainly as sophisticated as anything Miles Davis did IMO. Thank you hr-Bigband!
interesting, they live in different parts of my head but can't fathom now why as both were stylists first they were both virtuosic but not for it's own sake, it was above about sounding like yourself - and wow do they ever!
That’s exactly how it is. Spot on! Zappa was a genius.
@@sorendippel i love other people playing frank's music .
@@henkderoode5812 I've literally listened to this 20 times over the last 2+ years. What a performance, what a Trombone solo! And that swell at the end as al the instruments play is superb! Is there anything Frankfurt Big Band can't play?
Thanks to all musicians who all took part. Perfectly done. I'm glad, FZ is appreciated now. R.I.P. FZ!
Awesome and stunning performance revealing the genius of Frank Zappa. Top class musicianship.
As the years go by Frank's music just gets better and the big band versions are FAB .
Joyful and soulful! Keep Frank's music going.
Favorite Zappa melody. so colorful- so individualistic- so fresh
Great arrangement. Fabulous trombone solo!
FZ is still popular in Germany. He did many concerts there.
He went there on holiday too.
You guys are a total cut above every other tribute to Zappa. On point playing, arranging, and overall performance. You guys sound refreshingly well rehearsed!
The inspiration that Frank left that drove these talented musicians to carry it on and present it to the world gives me hope for mankind.
Franks music lives!!!
♥️
I am so happy to see my favourite Sax player Tony Lakatos in the Big Band!
Fantastic! I think this would bring a smile to Frank's face!
Its his arrangement from Lumpy Gravy
jazz is not dead it only smells funny😂
@Berliner Stadtschloss Dann bitte sagen Sie mir wieviele der heutigen 20 jährigen noch den JAZZ hören?
Great Job here, but I think Frank would think this smells a bit funny.
Great version. Really enjoy listening to FZ compositions by big band jazz it definitely adds a new dimension 😎
This is awesome! Oh No!
Frank Zappa: the most important artist of the twentieth century.
All century's
Behind Beefheart anyway
@@moetokos2166 I love me some Beefheart, but it'd be bonkers to say that he or his band was more "important" than Zappa, especially considering Zappa was the guy who produced Trout Mask Replica and managed to get any of that stuff recorded in a meaningful way.
To quote Jimmy Carl Black, “Frank was good, but Beefheart was the real thing.”
This is beautiful
Thank you James Davis!
Un jour je suis tombé sur Sheik Yerbouti et donc sur FZ pour la première fois ! BANG.... et depuis je n'ai plus jamais écouté la musique de la même manière !
Just. Wow.
Mike is an incredible arranger. Wow!

Mehr,mehr davon...
On the melody note that corresponds with the word "love" (10 seconds in, and in all subsequent instances) the bass should be playing the tonic.
We'll give you a Grand Wazoo for that one. Thanks.
Nice
Heia Jaksjø! :-)
oh yes
Celente
Tight bands are... Tight...
Oh no !
FZ is smiling somewheres...
strepitoso
Thanks!
Absolutely perfect song for our current out of control political divide .
Ab und zu wird mit den GEZ-Steuern auch mal was Gutes finanziert. THX for upload.
Can anyone tell me what time and key signature this is in?
The time signature in the score changes every once a while. In the beginning there are alternating 4/4 and 3/4 measures. Concerning the key, there are no accidentals specified.
fantastic, is there an album?
No, there isn't, I am sorry.
It's really a great arrangement. Frank would probably love it with the possible exception of the rewrite of the melody at 1 minute 12 seconds. You can't sing the words "from what we can't understand?" over that, not that words were ever more important to Frank than notes. But Frank did enjoy accuracy in the performance his music . Frank also might have objected to the trombone solo continuing after the solo section was over. The impact of the tight arrangement of the whole band was a bit weakened by the improvisation on top of it. But that's just my opinion.
Its the Lumpy Gravy arrangement......
TheTralfaz this isn't the Lumpy Gravy arrangement.
the "from what we can't understand?" lick was in the saxes, it was just really soft
@Berliner Stadtschloss ~ Why did you come to this video?
Vive Zappa! Here's a 4 fun acoustic instrumental of this oddly catchy tune: czcams.com/video/ZLk2uFINNDw/video.html
Ist das Dweezil an der Gitarre?
Non e' lui 🙂
0:44 aw come on, they edited out the guy's lick! and had the unmitigated audacity to leave it in the video 😫
Zappa would have fucking hated this! Great work though.
Great chart! Respectful, but not quite faithful to the spirit of the original. Minor quibble. This is a B I G band. (I kept looking for the theremin.) Great rewards for trombone lovers, the valveless brass wonder, the 'Devil's Instrument' as popularized by the Fabian G.B. Shaw. It's not Bruce Fowler, but lotsa fun!
The original, unless you have the vinyl, is here: czcams.com/video/1zjJw9YvA18/video.html The text s/b the anthem of our Tea Party here, Brexit in Britain, and les gilets juanes in the former Napoleonic lands. Save the world w/o Our Savior?

The trombone solo is terrible.... But that seems to be typical for the hr-Bigband: Great arrangements but only average solo parts....
As a former professional trombone player, I heartily DISAGREE.
Madonna sent me. Just kidding.
