Join me for this look at the Kenny Rogers themed rotisserie chicken restaurant chain. Starting with the tale of John Brown, the former governor of Kentucky who hooked up with Kenny to create the chain to it's bankruptcy and famous Seinfeld appearance.
Plus I dig into it's current state in Malaysia and the Philippines.

In his later years, Kenny Rogers would periodically turn up at the movie theater where I used to work. I had heard horror stories about him being difficult, but he seemed approachable, provided you didn’t try to sing his songs in front of him. The last time I saw him before he passed, he came out of a movie, and commented on having a bit of a crush on Jennifer Lawrence, whose movie he had just seen. I couldn’t decide if that was adorable or creepy.
Oh wow! What a story! That's pretty crazy. Jennifer Lawrence was about 60 years younger than him so that is a little weird.
The new worldwide menu is so different! The Mango Habanero rotisserie chicken sounds so bizarre!

I love that people overseas can enjoy the Kenny Rogers chicken.

I never got to eat at Kenny Rogers. It's interesting to see how things that go under here, can be successful in other countries.

I can’t see rotisserie chicken without thinking of the late night infomercials for cooking and whatnot

I'm more of a 🍗 fried chicken fan myself. I didn't consider super markets & club stores offering rotisserie chickens too. That makes sense. I rarely eat rotisserie chicken 🐔. Too greasy. Oil...
I go to one of the big malls in Cebu City, PH, and eat at Kenny Roger's every time I'm in town. Never had a bad meal there.

I wonder if the only reason Kenny Rogers was attached to the restaurant because it was the trendy thing in the mid nineties to attach celebrities to food: all star cafe, hard rock, hulk hogan pastamania, George Foreman grill... I'm sure I'm missing some!

I wish I'd known you were doing this since the first one was in my home town of Coral Springs FL. I could have told you about the cursed location they chose and how no eatery in that spot has EVER survived. Also? Never ate there since I heard from 'large people' that the food wasn't that good, although I suspect that the concept of rotisserie chicken may have befuddled them since everyone was used to fried chicken at eateries.

I have to say the most I remember about KRR is the Seinfeld episode. Bummer there was not one attached to our Arthur Treachers.
We had a Miami subs that had Arthur Treacher, Kenny Rogers, Baskin Robbin’s and Nathan’s.
I only got Kenny Rogers one time because my mom had just had surgery and I wanted to bring it because she loved Kenny. Glad I was able to try it. I just assumed it would be around forever!
The franchise was never in the Chicago area, so for years I thought the entire Seinfeld episode was total fiction. 😂
