    👇🏾 👍🏾 In a majority of electrical items, small amounts of precious metals, such as silver and gold are used as electrical contacts. Precious metals conduct digital signals better than common metals. Instead of throwing away broken or obsolete items with electrical contacts, recycle the silver that they contain in your home. Diluted hydrochloric acid dissolves most materials leaving precious metals, like silver, undissolved. Hydrochloric acid is commonly used to recycle precious metals from electronic scrap.

      gene Pohlemann Nitric Acid is the only expensive chemical used here and this process can be super worth it to have a supply of rather clean silver if want to refine whatever gold you collect by inquarting (diluting the karat) enough to have ~6karat Au/Ag alloy that will actually let the nitric get through the gold to remove base metals. After you’ve filtered the base metal solution from gold you can still run the video’s process and reclaim the silver. While I’d use commercial silver bullion as a reference for the first batches of electrolytic refining; I’d rather not ruin the valid stamp on a purchased bar for silver that’s just going to make me wayyyy more money being melted over and over again with the gold I obtain.

    • @a0cdhd
      @a0cdhd Před 7 lety

      You should use distilled water if you're going to try this method. Tap water usually has chlorine in it which may or may not react with any silver in solution to form silver chloride. Silver chloride is a white precipitate and I don't think that the copper cementation process will extract the silver from it so you'll lose that fraction. BTW there's no secret formula about it. Google "Silver Cementation Process." There's dozens of You Tube videos on the subject. There are other ways of refining silver as well. The Silver Chloride process is pretty popular. The hydrochloric acid used with this process can be found at swimming pool supply stores. Three percent hydrogen peroxide should be available from a drug store or hardware store. Sodium hydroxide is commonly called Caustic soda and should be available from a hardware store and sugar is available everywhere.. Cheers.

      The chemical process by using Nitric acid only disolves the silver into the solution, it's called Silver Liquor. By filtering the liquid through coffee filters or whichever filter is used, you isolate the silver liquid only. Then by adding Table salt and Sodium Chloride you create almost a Silver cement. You then dry out the cement and melt it down giving you .999 pure silver. This is the same process you would use to refine sterling silver. You can even remove the silver from silver plated items by this method.

    Is there a way to obtain silver that DOES NOT involve nitric acid?

    • @pneumatic00
      @pneumatic00 Před 5 lety

      Yes. Buy silver if you want it. That's actually an excellent question and I don't mean to sound harsh. But if you are chemically dealing with silver, you are dealing with nitric acid and there are PLENTY of reasons why you may not want to. Those red fumes? A few breaths of those fumes and you have no lungs left. Then you can spend a month or more in a hospital, or even die. They are fiendishly toxic.

    • @Istoeumapemba

      @@pneumatic00 Nitric Acid is an Army-controlled product in my country. It only can be sold with an Army permit.

    • @pneumatic00
      @pneumatic00 Před 5 lety

      @@Istoeumapemba Nitric acid is a very dangerous chemical. It can set fire to organic materials. It can blind you or destroy your lungs if it comes in contact with most metals with the red fumes. You must use protective gear and deal with the red fumes and those items may cost hundreds of dollars. So if you are trying to refine 1 oz or 2 oz or 50 oz of silver you had better think hard if it is worth it. I have experience with chemistry and I simply do not want nitric acid around. You can have 1 accident and regret it forever. There is NO WAY to refine silver without nitric and to me it is just not worth the dangers. A liter of 35% nitric is about $30-35 US plus shipping. It takes 1.22 ml of 70% nitric (which is more expensive than 35%) to dissolve 1 gram of silver. So it takes 2.4 ml 35% nitric per gram of silver or 75 ml per troy ounce @ 31.1 grams. So that liter of 35% nitric will dissolve 13.3 troy oz silver. You are paying $3 to dissolve a tr oz of silver. When you are done, you have an ounce of silver that you have to melt and mold into an ingot which means you have to have the fuel and torch and the the melting gear ($$) to make a round that NOBODY WILL RECOGNIZE. By the time you are done, you are paying $5 per ounce...instead, you can just go buy pure .999 silver in a bar or round from a known maker for $1 over spot per ounce that people will recognize as coming from a reliable refiner. Not $5 per ounce, $1 per ounce. Therefore it makes no sense, none, zero, to refine silver on a small time basis in a home-brew "lab". Never mind the injury you could cause to yourself or others. This is a very simple decision. It's completely not worth it.
