Interview with DJ Shadow (2012) about this track, thought it would be cool to share here: "This was the first song that I ever made that I felt I had achieved the sound in my head. Nothing on Endtroducing..... ever gave me that feeling. As a body of work, I'm very proud of it of course, but 'High Noon' was the first singular song. It suddenly became interesting to me after doing all of these ten minute tracks from 'In/Flux' to 'Lost And Found' to 'What Does Your Soul Look Like?', and all that stuff is really dreamy and interesting to me, but suddenly with 'High Noon' it became more about trying to edit and arrange in such a way... that was my challenge, can I get it in under five minutes? I suppose it was also kind of an angry song. When Endtroducing..... came out, it made a bit of a splash here in the UK, but then I found myself back in the States, the album wasn't out yet and I felt as though I'd gone through this vortex and somehow ended up exactly right where I was - a crappy, cheap apartment in a community where no-one understood what I was doing or identified with my reference points and I felt a bit manipulated and used, and I found myself compelled to make 'High Noon' as a way to express some of that. Mixing that song was a 'mare though - it came together really quickly in terms of taking all the elements, doing all the programming and really pouring myself into it. I remember I mixed it feverishly, and Mo' Wax requested that I take another crack at it and it was very difficult and actually I think the person who mastered it was Mark 'Spike' Stent's personal mastering engineer or somebody like that. I remember Mo' Wax or A&M pulling all these favours to get somebody really on their shit to master it because it was so muddy, and their notes said something like "obviously this was a challenge, but here's what I've done!" "
This album on tape, helped me soundtrack through my mothers passing, now over 20 years later, this song stands alone, with no bad memories, as a piece of my life.
Gone away by The Offspring used to break me down when my mother was dying of cancer. She's been gone three years now and I miss her more than ever but most of the music that helped me get through it all doesn't hurt to listen to anymore.
Caught this when I was reaaaaally high in back in the 90s on 120 Minutes or AMP on MTV. I actually owe a lot of my music to those two programs. This video is still amazing all these years later.
Love this guys mood - so deep and Intelligent. Well into his sound along withe the the dark vibes of Unkle, Amon Tobin, Tricky, DJ Krush, Massive Attack, AllFlaws
Well, DJ shadow's 'high noon' has been doing it to me for 20 years. Happy, smiling, crying, chilled, energetic - every emotion pretty much. Just my favourite song of all time I'd say. Even tho the drumming is programmed it's so intricate and painstakingly put together that it sounds like live incredible drumming. It doesn't really repeat itself and he even manages volume and force rises in the right places. Plus combined with the rest of the music - it's a thing of beauty - have chills just thinking of it now. 'You will hear my heart And the circuit will be complete…'
Can you really call it 'programed' though? He's playing those parts by taping them into the MPC. Sure, I guess you could call the resulting sequences 'programmed' but with this type of production technique it really does have a groove and live feel to it.
Just checked back on this tune to A/B test with the only song that’s got me the same way as ‘High noon’ so sorry guys just see your replies and the tune I refer to is ‘Aleph 2’ by Max Cooper. Oh my fuckin god. Just listen to it. Full version not the edit. Blows my mind like ‘High Noon’ did/still does..... czcams.com/video/tNYfqklRehM/video.html
I'll be honest with ya. I heard this first in 2007... and it blown my mind away... when later on early youtube movie clip was uploaded... it blown me away again. Since i heard this track i knew i have to dig on the internet for all what's related do DJ Shadow. Dang what a variety of music styles and motives in all DJ Shadow work. Amazing guy with an amazing talent and hard worker.
I remember being about 16 or 17 watching guys from Warsaw or Poland painting graff to this sountrack, over 20 years later I still love drawing and now me and my little boy jam to this... It's a timeless work of a tune that carries a special place in my life. Bez and Oker If you ever read this, you were my Heroes.
Where does that sample that says "You will hear my part, and the circuit (circle?) will be complete" come from? I always thought it was such a cool line.
A true masterpiece. I discovered so much new music after this. Really got me into trip hop and the likes of Unkle, Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, DJ Krush, Amon Tobin, Allflaws
We perhaps have similar musical tastes. Could I perhaps recommend some music from the past few years? (Watch the recent content) Check out CloZee. She is fucking talented af. Gjones is awesome. Highly recommend. Glitchmob just dropped some new content, litterally less than 24 hours ago. I do not really like dubstep stylings that much, yet Excision is really awesome. He is maybe post dubstep. Wubstep reborn + metal + hiphop + trap hats. Or something like that. Zed's Dead has been solid af for a good long while. FourTet is chill af, as always. Also, almost everyone who played Tommorrowland2022 killed the stage. Especially if you like a club music spin on the electro/edm. If you want more recommendations as I think of other good music, just respond to this comment and I will almost definitely reply within the next few days.
@@getthoseskills4451 There is a really solid channel on youtube called Cercle I think. There is one specific set in particular. The dude DJ's in a hot air balloon in the mountains above Turkey while like 20+ other hot air balloons are in the air. I highly recommend that, and basically all of the other content from that channel. So beautiful.
Well. I guess I'll be the first here to say I came from the Ribbit mod for Deltarune, and I gotta say this song just hits different hearing the whole thing.
well oleee billy burr was told to listen but i get it .. im stoned and in the dark and feels good
Lol that's his I got here

legendary post, thanks for the context, this track always stood out to me and now I know why. Funny to know how much of a hassle it was to master!

That's some sublime wording mate ❤
I'm here because of Billy Ballsweat and this is kinda nice.
Me too!!
Ngl the girls description of it made it seem like it would be better lol
@@nickdaboii honestly, yes

Me too. Endtroducing, and Preemptive strike, are two of the best albums of the 90's.
Yo!

My intro to DJ Shadow on MTV AMP. Preemptive Strike was released 25 years ago today, and it still holds an emotional place for me.
Thank you to the woman who wrote to Bil Burr and told him that he should listen to this song... Its rly good

Is this his darkest track?
So heavy. Yet so good.
The vid remains strange and depressing. Underrated.
Fo sho. My first DJ Shadow song. And if you don’t know now you know.
This song will never fade..Shadow had this on lock ....still does.. Thanks for the post

This song peaked #22 in the UK charts around 1997, they should've used 'High Noon' for Fast & Furious
Vito Rizzo it definitely should have been on a soundtrack
Underrated.
This song deserves recognition, like organ donor
The 90s must have been badass.
Nope.
Isolated gems....like this guy and Portishead and a dozen or so RnB/Swing 12s in the US.....but generally it sucked.
It was amazing
