@@enzprintco.8625you are 💯 right, as far as my 30+ yrs of experience with poison ivy goes. Some ppl absolutely do have more of an immunity than others do -some hv no allergic reaction at all-to the plant’s oil resin. It’s almost always worse the first time you get it as your system builds immunity to everything, supposing you have a healthy immune system. It also depends on the time of year as the plant’s oily resin (urushiol) is thicker and stickier in late summer, early fall, making it pretty impossible to get completely off your skin, clothing, & hair. Indoor/outdoor pets can bring it inside on their fur, infiltrating furniture, bedding, or pretty much anything they touch. Degreasers work best but you hv to know where it is & be able to identify it first😓 The best way to prevent it is to go through your property and burn it up until it’s completely turned into ash & dispose of it in a dumpster !

I've had it for over a month due to repeated exposure and a large yard. It goes away and new parts form from new exposure. I scrub the rash with alcohol and cotton. I take NSAIDs for the inflammation. Usually enough to handle it.
To prevent it, you need to wash everything after being outdoors. Don't track your shoes and exposed animals through the house. Keep tools and gloves outside, wash them down with the hose. Take a cold shower immediately and keep your exposed clothes isolated until you can wash them. If you're allergic, you will eventually catch it again, but these measures help limit it.
For example, if you track it in your bed, every morning you'll wake up with a new rash until you wash your sheets. If you track it on your floor, your pets will spread it everywhere they touch, and every time you touch a contaminated spot, you'll break out.

I've had it for a week now and when some blisters fade more just pop up in other areas. It's mostly on my hands and arms but now also on one side of my face. I've been washing several times a day with degreasing soap and water which does make the itch stop for longer, but it's not stopping it from spreading. I can't believe they haven't come out with anything better to clear it up faster in the last 20 years. I ordered the stuff you mentioned but it won't come in for another few days as they do not have it at my local pharmacy. Steroid creams just give temporary relief. I finally quit using it after I used up the tube and didn't bother getting more because it was not a permanent solution. How much oil could there possibly be? I would think washing it several times a day would stop it in a few days, so why is it still spreading? Does that mean it's gotten into the bloodstream and is just surfacing randomly?

I've gotten tons before because I'm out in the woods a decent amount but I get it decently bad. I'm very good about not popping the blisters and shit so I'm lucky to not get it anywhere else when I have it most of the time. Honestly during this quarantine time I have had 2 cases of poison ivy. I had my first exposure on my skin 2 months ago and now I'm here with it again now. I didn't look up any treatments to my first exposure because I thought it would just go away without anything. Yes I did take a cream every once in a while, but it didn't work. I spent over $60 on shit lmao. Now this time I've learned better to wash everything that I have touched and if you ever have poison ivy on your arms and legs make sure you wear either long sleeve shirts OR pants, depending on where your poison ivy is. If you don't then it can get in on your bed and it will spread. My first case of poison ivy spread everywhere... my arms, legs, ears, and my back. It was awful. Overall, just make sure that you are prepared when it comes to poison ivy. There's really nothing you can do about the itching phase, but all you can do it to prevent it from spreading.

@@Sn4il3D It does yes. It takes about a day or two until you start seeing rashes/spots of redness on your skin. They come up as small bumps. Plosion ivy lasts depending on the person. If you have been exposed to it on only one body part, then it should be a week. If you got exposed to it on your hands, that's a more risky situation because it will spread. If poison ivy spreads on your body it could last up to 2-3 weeks. For me it lasted for a month.

@@theunbroken7678 hi sam, I have been working with poison ivy for 11yrs and I'm allergic. I am not a doctor, only passing on what works for me. Get a pan or a large bowl, fill it half way with cold water, super saturate with salt, I use table salt, there should be so much salt that it does not all dissolve on the bottom. Then dip in a washcloth, squeeze it , so it's not dripping wet, and use a salt shaker to shake more salt onto the cloth and apply to the affected area(s). If you have four areas, use four clothes. Let the washcloth sit for a minute or two, or until it becomes warm, then tip it back into the cold water, squeeze it , so it's not dripping wet, shake a little more salt on it and reapply. Continue the process for 5 to 10 minutes. Results vary depending on the amount of salt and the length of time you soak the rash. Afterwards apply any topical poison ivy medicine. Tecnu and zanfel are the most popular. Keep the lotion near your bedside, and give in to the itch at night, using the balls of your fingers and not the nails. Rub hard using extra lotion, and trying not to use your nails. This should offer you some relief, enough to go back to sleep. Loss of sleep is a symptom not often discussed, try to get extra rest. Hope this was helpful. Pesky Pete

I have found a cheap, easy, DIY solution for when you've already been exposed and have started to react to the PI oil. Whenever I realize I've got a PI rash coming on, I start drinking beet juice. Trust me, as weird as it is, I wouldn't do it if it didn't work, and this remedy has been working for me and my family for three years. If we are paying attention and catch it early enough, sometimes the blisters don't even form. You can drink beet juice from the canned grocery store beets, or make your own fermented beet kvass. Either works. Hope this helps anyone who has already got the poison ivy reaction started.

      Suicide.
I get it every year to various degrees of severity. A few nights ago my pet parrot was spooked off my shoulder and flew off into the woods. I spent hours calling for him in the woods barefoot. I ended up finding him the next morning by him flying to my shoulder as i walked to my truck. But i got a very severe outbreak of poison oak/ivy. The worst part i think is between my toes and fingers. Its so messed up in those places.. Its also in my left eye, both ankles, both armpits, both biceps, both forearms, both hands, neck and my right thigh.
It gets crazy painful and itchy when i go to work in the summer heat and start sweating. I know the guys at work think im a bitch but its unbearable while im working and my skin is rubbing against each other with salty sweat. What a horrible plant. Its what id imagine satan would fill his gardens with.
(Came back to edit that i was joking about the suicide thing. I think thats obvious to 99% of us but ive had 2 VERY close people kill themselves, one in front of me close up, so i use dark humor more often than less thick skinned people)

Had a double whammy. Car almost got crushed by a tree while driving. Then from trying to pull all the tree shit out from under the car I wound up seeing the rash show up on SUN. Well it's now THU and that shit spread like wildfire. Left arm is really bad with the rash and bumps. Face was pretty bad. Hell even my scrotum area got some. I didn't even think of poison oak initially until it dawned on me oh shit all those leaves even in the pouring rain could have had shit all over them.
Started the oral steroids on TUE and it has helped but the rash is only slowly starting to go away. I usually shower twice or even three times a day now with Dawn dish soap because the doctor said it probably has seeped deep into my pores so best to just continue to wash as much as I feel I need to. It also helps fight the itch and burning which comes and goes. Don't think I have an infection as no fever, chills, or puss forming. But this really fucking sucks.

Pick up some dish soap that's good at removing heavy grease. Dawn and Palmolive work. Wash each rash like you're trying to get engine grease off of your skin. Use a washcloth and a lot of friction. If you've even thought about scratching, it's on your hands too. Cut your nails down to the quick and scrub the dickens out of them so it doesn't spread. Be as thorough as you can without breaking your skin.
I'm exposed to poison oak all the time. If I do this the same day the rash shows up, it goes away in a day or two. Cold compresses are decent relief.

Hasn't worked for me. It keeps spreading. The dish soap is only putting a damper on rash that has been there awhile and making it go longer without itching as much; not stopping new bumps from popping up.
