All I get is instructions for a model with an X. Mine doesn't, and my holding the cancel/off for 3 seconds doesn't work either.

Mine only has cancel/off too just press hold it until you hear a beep should be just a couple seconds

I, too did not have an “X” in the lower left hand corner but the maintenance man where I live found a solution on CZcams. The lock gets set if you hold down the clock setting button too long. Then the only way you can turn it off is to hold down the “SET CLOCK” button for 3 seconds. Voila!
