    Thanks for the video, i am new to hydroponics. someone jumped into hydroponics after watching a random video on youtube. But your videos taught me lot. thanks from me and my hydroponic tomatoes, chillies, broccolis and more.

    Great video. Getting your production gets better and better. Good work. Question: what is the reason you guys don’t recirculate the bato bucket nutrient solution? I have about 25 bato buckets with tomatoes and do recirculate. What are the advantages of your method?

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  Před 2 lety +1

      For us to recirculate the bato bucket we would have to install another nutrient tank with monitor system pumps etc. This system has no pumps, and we don't have to worry about disease pressure with recirculating nutrients. We make sure we monitor our discharge and try to get it where it is very little. It works for us. so, advantages would be no pumps no electric, disease pressure, and ease of use.

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching. We try and keep the temp around 68 for our lettuces. Asian greens can go higher. When its hot and sunny and temps can get up into the 80's so just warm temps

    Thank you Nathan for all these tips. Very good explanations. Katy, can you share your base nutrient formula for tomatoes? How do you know how much magnesium to add? Do you have an irragtion water sample analyzed by a laboratory?

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  Před 2 lety

      yes, we sent our source water out to a lab and then the nutrient recipe was designed based on what was already in our water, I can show it, but it won't be the same for you unless our source waters are the same.

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  Před rokem +1

      Hi Michael, we are more than happy to share anything if it helps you. so, the cucumbers and beans are on the same watering schedule. They are watered every 20 minutes. for about a minute at a time. remember we use 1.5 GPH emitters which only allow a certain amount of nutrient solution into the bato system.

    In Europe, the standard nutrient solution for tomatoes grown in hydroponics is between 1.8 and 2.4 EC. What is the interest of increasing the EC up to 3.5, is it for some variety of tomato?

    • @johnman559
      @johnman559 Před 2 lety +1

      Interesting Pierre, 👍 is that for all stages of growth or the latter stages? Katie's toms are consuming 0.6 EC, why would we give any more?

    • @pierreshasta1480
      @pierreshasta1480 Před 2 lety +1

      @@johnman559 Personally, I use for tomatoes an EC of 1 at the beginning, to end up at 2.2, but I found that at 1.8 the result was also very good. What is important for me is to test by myself, because depending on the way you grow your vegetables and the climate, the EC can be different.
      Using an EC of 0.6 for tomatoes seems low to me, do you have any serious information on this point to give me? You're right, why spend more money on fertilizer, if it's useless.

      @@pierreshasta1480 Yes that makes a lot of sense Pierre😀👍👍

  • @gardnep
    @gardnep Před 2 lety

    To my mind the EC is way too low at 1.6, according to the literature at least two and around 2.4 seems optimum with pH of about 6.5+. I run the pH higher because I’m afraid of blossom end rot.

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  Před 2 lety +2

      The only thing about higher PH is the plant can't take up the nutrients. We were told around 2.0 on EC and 5.8 to 6.1 on PH
