- Shane Meadows and Mark Herbert accepting the award for Best British Film at the 2008 BAFTA award ceremony. This Is England fought off competition from, Atonement, Control, Eastern Promises, and The Bourne Ultimatum.

Trainspotting, sexy beast, clockwork orange, snatch, long good friday, nil by mouth, gandhi, zulu, scum , my left foot, withnail and I, crying game, dead man's shoes, 28 days later and one of my favourites 24 hour party people are all up there with this is England if not better.
The film,,86,88 and 90....absolute genius...MR MEADOWS IS A GENIUS.
I wish there was more, or at least something similar

The fact that the movie Paddy Considine starred in was nominated and his genuine happiness that his friend Shane's movie won instead, is actually heartwarming. Friendship goals.
Apparently Paddy was an uncredited writer on This Is England. His happiness all makes sense now 😏

I had the honour of meeting Shane, Andrew Shim and Vicky McClure at a DVD signing in Nottingham. They were all amazing and still treasure that DVD. Top class film making at its very best.

What a fantastic roster of films. Even Atonement, which I have some real problems with, is a solid piece of filmmaking. This is England is nothing short of extraordinary and I'm so glad we have a filmmaker as honest and talented as Shane Meadows around.

Seeing Paddys reaction is really heartwarming. He's happier than if the film he was in had won.
Paddy's a fucking legend, plus, him and Meadows were mates at college, and Meadows cast him in Romeo Brass, which was utterly inspired.

It isn't it's released on Universal the only English part of it is the director that's it. This is England however was released on FilmFour and Warp and Optimum all english distributors. It's basically all bollox.

It may not be a British movie. But look at it like this, at least the BAFTAs unlike the Academy here in the states recognizes that a big budget, genre movie can be of high quality, unlike the depressing, boring "important" movies nobody ever sees that the Academy nominates year after year. And This is England is a brilliant film.
