Οι Rebetien σχηματίστηκαν το 2012 και παρουσιάζουν ρεπερτόριο από την ελληνική παραδοσιακή μουσική, το σμυρναίικο και το ρεμπέτικο τραγούδι, καθώς και νέες δικές τους συνθέσεις και πειραματισμούς, εξελίσσοντας διαρκώς τον δικό τους ήχο. Χαρακτηριστικό στοιχείο του συγκροτήματος είναι η ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στον φυσικό και στον ακουστικό ήχο των οργάνων, που συνδέεται με τη νοσταλγική εποχή του γραμμοφώνου, παραπέμποντας και θυμίζοντας τις σμυρναίικες ορχήστρες και τα μουσικά ακούσματα της εποχής του μεσοπολέμου, μέσα από μια σύγχρονη ενορχηστρωτική προσέγγιση. Στην πρώτη αυτή δισκογραφική τους δουλειά, οι Rebetien ερμηνεύουν τραγούδια και σκοπούς, ως επί το πλείστο, από το ρεπερτόριο της Ρεμπέτικης και Σμυρναίικης μουσικής, Ελλήνων συνθετών που έδρασαν την περίοδο αυτή. Οι Rebetien ταξιδεύουν στον χώρο και στον χρόνο μεταδίδοντας τη μουσική παράδοση του αστικού λαϊκού τραγουδιού, όπως έχει αποτυπωθεί στους δίσκους γραμμοφώνου και τις πρώτες ηχογραφήσεις, με επιρροές από τους μουσικούς δρόμους της Ανατολής σε συνδυασμό με αυτοσχεδιαστικά στοιχεία προερχόμενα από τη μουσική της Δύσης.
Το συγκρότημα αποτελείται από τους:

Rebetien band consists of: Fotis Vergopoulos: bouzouki, vocals Giannis Zarias: violin, baglamas Avgerini Gatsi: accordion, vocals Kostis Kostakis: guitar, vocals Giannis Katos: double bass Rebetien band is a party of four musicians that perform songs and themes mostly derived from the rebetiko and the Greek traditional music repertoire, as well as compositions of their own. The band’s nostalgic sound is reminiscent of the gramophone records’ period, often subtly combined with alternate, yet closely related, musical styles of various Eastern Mediterranean and Balkan musical traditions. Great emphasis is placed on the natural, acoustic sound of the instruments performing (accordion, bass-guitar, bouzouki and violin), the combination of which recalls in a sense the typical interwar bands of Smyrna, and on experimenting primarily with their arrangements, creating thus their own distinct sound and style. With their large repertoire and style range, as well as their strongly improvisational disposition, Rebetien band’s mood can vary and go from melancholic and romantic to dynamic and uplifting. Rebetien band performs weekly at various live-music taverns in Athens, and on occasion has performed at several live-music venues and music festivals in Greece and abroad.
