Mungo's Hi Fi, Gardna, Catching Cairo - Back In The Dayz

- Known for their unique approach to reggae, Glasgow’s Mungo’s Hi Fi have always been influenced by wider soundsystem and dance music culture. They’ve distilled this passion into new single Back In The Dayz, a homage to 90s rave, jungle and breakbeat, featuring Bristolian emcee Gardna and sultry London singer Catching Cairo.
Over a jungle-esque break and a bassline sounding like a vibrating warehouse roof, Gardna and Catching Cairo share evocative memories of raves and dances they’ve enjoyed. The sounds, friendships, fashions and refreshments that connect the communal party experience flash by in a heady cocktail hit of nostalgia and optimism. The lyrics were co-written by London reggae singer, and Mungo’s collaborator, Kiko Bun.
Like all Mungo’s productions, Back In The Dayz is simultaneously looking back and facing forward. It’s a love letter to the rich traditions of UK rave culture, but also a glimpse towards the time when we can all be free to party again.

No one else has lyrics about the special times of raving at Fabric and mentions tunes like the nine and renegade snares ect..
So for me this song and back in the day really mean something. For me this is really creative and allows me to remember back in the day which for me was around 2003.
As I said no one else is doing this so big up for flying the flag for us people in the UK that had that experience back then.

Yes yes! I was a raver back in the day.. I used to go to the old raves back in the early 90s, before garage 2 step, etc , tunes got a proper old skool feel to it.
