  • Low vocals? Sure! There are a lot of ways to do those low, guttural, gurgly metal vocals that we all know and love so much. In this video, you'll get the basic tools you need to make a simply false-cord low scream. Once you've got the basics down, you can start refining and honing your technique!
I also do 1-on-1 lessons via Skype. Email me for more info!

This tutorial is god-tier. FINALLY someone explains that a gravelly feeling is normal in the start. Most people who make low scream tutorials just say it’s bad for that to happen rather than saying its a normal place to start before you find the best way to do it that won’t feel abnormal. I actually have hope now that I’ll be able to start screaming soon.

I watched your video a couple of months back when I first started trying to learn this and couldn't figure out what i was supposed to do. I went around youtube trying to learn how to fry scream or do false cord vocals and ended up learning stuff like breath support and other stuff that were needed to safely create this sounds however I couldn't figure out how to make the sounds I was supposed to. I came back to this video after two months and it makes much more sense now tbh this is a lot more help full than most videos out there. Thanks a ton.

I can do highs easily with no problems. But as for lows I'm struggling. I do the right techniques but mine sound super hollow. What am I going wrong and how do I fix it. Love the video, and just subscribed ❤

Thanks for the support! Most of the time people have trouble with metal vocals its an issue of breath support, distortion placement, or both. I would advise starting with making sure you are breathing with your diaphragm properly and utilizing your abdominal muscles first, since that solves a lot of problems on its own

shit I'm the opposite. I can't do highs to save my life.

Gage Newman I have the opposite issue lol my lows are nasty but my highs are crackly as hell. I can do a gurgle scream and it sounds kinda like a banshee 😂

Ronnie Climer 😂😂 I’m even weirder I can do lows pretty easIly and highs a little bit but I can do inhales easy as pie but fry scream all techniques I find impossible even tho I can feel there exactly the same thing happening in my throat

Same here, I can do high screams pretty easy, singing along to The Sound Of Perseverance and higher vocals in The Black Dahlia Murder and Dying Fetus songs, but fuckin lows man, I struggle hard. I come from a choir background, and my breath and diaphragm control is decent but I struggle with how to utilize my distortion placement and such, shits tough, but I'll get there eventually

Tips were helpful. Nice lows at the end.
The Caspro bandcamp link doesn't work (or doesn't exist) anymore?

I've singing for few years and domine the false cord technique pretty well on highs but use to fail in lows, I'm sure I do a proper breathing technique but when I try to do lows I run out of air really quickly, what am I doing wrong? Thankyou so much!!

Thanks for this helpful video! I have been working on mine for a long time, but the big problem I still have is with mucus/phlegm. I'll be growling out like mad, then start gagging and choking - even vomited a few times, because mucus/phlegm will run down the back of my throat and get caught there. It's worth noting that, although I do take allergy meds, they aren't 100% effective in fighting my allergy-causing nasal drainage. If anyone can help in any way, I'd surely appreciate it!

Hey! I don't know if you'll read this 'cause old video and all but I've been trying the "HYA" thing. Does the "gravel" sensation go away with time and practice or am I doing something wrong? I love growl vocal and want to practice it for fun but I don't want to injure myself. Thanks and love your videos! :)

Will you be posting a throat-singing (Dimmu Borgir-esque) video? Or have I missed one?
