Florida is weird because sometimes you cant tell you are in the hood just by looking at it . it is unfair to have dangerous hoods that blend in with the good parts . Most places you get some visual clues that you are entering a dangerous part of town so you can be on your guard but most of florida just looks the same
That’s a lot of places shit go to Oakland and some parts of chicago or the north Bronx or parts of DC and Philly areas look middle class but be dangerous asf
You can't blame parents for every teen bad behavior, they old enough to want to do better and a lot of these parents are out there trying to make a living TO SURVIVE.
My mother raised 2 well behaved, respectable young men by herself so it’s not just about the absence of a Father. This is more deeply rooted than that. These young men have at some point probably been violated, or have felt like no one cared and they had no one to talk to so they’re choosing a life that may be short lived instead. I’m quite sure they can’t be thinking about what life growing old will be. It makes me want to reach out and give them a hug. So sad.

I'm from Orlando and I'm white and Mexican. I find the Orlando, Tampa, and South Florida black communities really interesting because you have African-Americans and then you have a lot of Carribean blacks, probably more than any other state in the USA, and in a lot of Florida they live together, so when I hear these young men speak, I hear both Southern African-American accents but also Jamaican, Trinidadian, Bahamian, etc.
A lot of y'all blaming the parents, if all you're surrounded by are gangs and poverty, you can catch yourself around the wrong people. I've known some really great parents who did their best under their poor circumstances to raise their kids right, but when they grow up they make their own choices and mostly poor choices. Everybody makes their own path, all you can do is lead the horse to water, whether he drinks it or not is up to him.

Lol, im from Orlando. I got locked up and had to finish my sentence at a DOC program "The Bridge" which was across the street from these apartments. I remember for work release I would have to walk back and forth down Mercy drive to get to work. A few times I got chased by some crackheads but for the most part it was "hey you straight" obviously trying to sell me crack. A lot of the people in there with me were still fighting addiction and didn't make it out of the program without going back to jail because of temptation. To this day I still never understand why they put those kind of facilities right in the heart of drug dealing and crime. Set up to fail from the start.

On one hand you are correct. The tourist districts of Orlando are nice and have lots of fun things to do, but the red light district OBT and west colonial/metro area isn't too friendly. I used to live on Silver Star which is near here and there was a lot of shootings. Washington Shores don't even get me started

This isn't just a lack of fathers. Its an entire race of people of whom far too many embrace this kind of culture and lifestyle and have no desire to build better neighborhoods and live a more peaceful, productive and successful life. You can go to pretty much any black community in the world and see this kind of stuff repeated over and over again.

The thing is some races/ethnicities definitely handle it much better and their kids don't grow up to be violent and criminal people at anywhere near the same rates as other races/ethnicities do. There's this weekly show on PBS called Asia Insight and it tells stories that are asia centric and frequently they do shows on people living in various asian countries that live in complete squalor that would make US ghettos like the ones Charlie goes to seem like heaven on earth in comparison and guess what? Even though hundreds of millions of kids in asia are growing up in much worse conditions and in more poverty than blacks in the US do, the vast majority of those kids DO NOT grow up to be violent and dangerous people. Instead those kids grow up wanting to be educated and to get a decent job so that they can earn a good living. Their first instinct isn't to turn to crime and violence to get what they want, nor do most of them grow up to be assholes who do nothing but mess up the society they live in. The point is most of them are raised properly by their parents to not be shit human beings and as a result most of them turn out to be decent people even though they have far fewer resources and help available to them compared to what black people have in the US.

I moved from Chicago to orlando two years ago and it’s a big difference. I’ve been in some of worse Orlando hoods and felt comfortable. In Chicago you’re literally scared in certain areas and have to look over your shoulder driving through the streets.these kids nice lol

When I was a kid my mom worked for a drug treatment center that had a youth center there & I would go with her during outreach days to play with the kids while she worked. It was BAD even back then & its sad to see it never really got better.

Just came from vacation in Orlando. People are friendly, intimidation is just a front unless you're disrespectful. Otherwise, cool people to hang with for a hour or two. Theres some hoods where people out the gate fuck with you just to know where you stand.

I am from Chicago and actually have gone down the wrong street. I never ever had a problem with black men. I had respect, I ALWAYS had problems with the Hispanic gangs, always. I moved to Detroit area and one of my employees needed a ride home. I gave her one, I hired her too, it was in the worst and I mean worst neighborhoods. Not only did they thank me, they had me come out of my car, offered me dinner and then made sure I got out safely. They told me under no circumstances do this or this as they couldn’t help me. I got home safely. I’m a blonde woman. I have almost died by crazy ass shit by white collared male counterparts. The world is a crazy place.

I'm going to sound like an old man yelling at clouds here, but 99% of modern rap glorifies violence and that's all these guys are listening to day after day. It's actually really difficult to find songs that don't mention guns and killing, but they also mention luxury goods, expensive jewellery and having lots of money, so kids like these associate violence with being rich and successful. All they're taught is that they too can be rich and famous if they just shoot anyone who looks at them the wrong way.

Mercy drive apartments are section 8 subsidized housing. Think of like Chicago infamous O-Block. They are not City or county owned public housing. These are private companies owned. The owners apply for these types of apartments to be under section 8 to guarantee getting paid by the government every month. Oppose to apartments that are not under section 8, where you have to depend on the occupant to pay rent. But because these are section 8, many of the tenants don’t take care of the units like they probably would if they owned them or everyone was paying $2,000 and up for monthly rent. I know from first hand experience how Orlando is the epitome of this Situation. Orlando around (Texas & Americana) they have pretty decent looking apartment complexes but once you drive up on them it’s a whole different vibe from the outside just driving by. You see people hanging out just like in this video. For the better looking ones from the outside are sometimes mixed income apartments. Meaning they go based off your income. As a matter of fact, most public housing is like this. Gone of the days when everyone was paying $100 dollars a month. Now I’m todays remodel housing projects you could be paying $200 a month but your neighbor could be paying $800 a month. Orlando has one of the craziest looking apartments nah e ever seen in the Old Blossom Trail area (OBT), on Texas there was a complex names Tempaskamp. They place looked like a bomb dropped on it and the people survived and just stayed there. Man that place was was a war zone using RPGs! Literally half a building here and there, holes in units etc..

Lol, im from Orlando. I got locked up and had to finish my sentence at a DOC program "The Bridge" which was across the street from these apartments. I remember for work release I would have to walk back and forth down Mercy drive to get to work. A few times I got chased by some crackheads but for the most part it was "hey you straight" obviously trying to sell me crack. A lot of the people in there with me were still fighting addiction and didn't make it out of the program without going back to jail because of temptation. To this day I still never understand why they put those kind of facilities right in the heart of drug dealing and crime. Set up to fail from the start.

On one hand you are correct. The tourist districts of Orlando are nice and have lots of fun things to do, but the red light district OBT and west colonial/metro area isn't too friendly. So many kids without fathers. I wish I could be a father figure to these young boys. A whole lot of potential there they just need to channel their energy to more productive things while still being a united family
This isn't just a lack of fathers. Its an entire race of people of whom far too many embrace this kind of culture and lifestyle and have no desire to build better neighborhoods and live a more peaceful, productive and successful life.

Here's the thing. There are plenty of children who grow up with one parent or no parents, are raised in poor environments and so on. The thing is some races/ethnicities definitely handle it much better and their kids don't grow up to be violent and criminal people at anywhere near the same rates as other races/ethnicities do.
There's this weekly show on PBS called Asia Insight and it tells stories that are asia centric and frequently they do shows on people living in various asian countries that live in complete squalor that would make US ghettos like the ones Charlie goes to seem like heaven on earth in comparison and guess what? Even though hundreds of millions of kids in asia are growing up in much worse conditions and in more poverty than blacks in the US do, the vast majority of those kids DO NOT grow up to be violent and dangerous people.
Instead those kids grow up wanting to be educated and to get a decent job so that they can earn a good living. Their first instinct isn't to turn to crime and violence to get what they want, nor do most of them grow up to be assholes who do nothing but mess up the society they live in. The point is most of them are raised properly by their parents to not be shit human beings and as a result most of them turn out to be decent people even though they have far fewer resources and help available to them compared to what black people have in the US.

When I was a kid my mom worked for a drug treatment center that had a youth center there & I would go with her during outreach days to play with the kids while she worked. It was BAD even back then & its sad to see it never really got better.

Just came from vacation in Orlando. People are friendly, intimidation is just a front unless you're disrespectful. Otherwise, cool people to hang with for a hour or two. Theres some hoods where people out the gate fuck with you just to know where you stand.

Not only did they thank me, they had me come out of my car, offered me dinner and then made sure I got out safely. They told me under no circumstances do this or this as they couldn’t help me. Mercy drive apartments are section 8 subsidized housing. Think of like Chicago infamous O-Block. They are not City or county owned public housing. These are private companies owned. The owners apply for these types of apartments to be under section 8 to guarantee getting paid by the government every month. Oppose to apartments that are not under section 8, where you have to depend on the occupant to pay rent. But because these are section 8, many of the tenants don’t take care of the units like they probably would if they owned them or everyone was paying $2,000 and up for monthly rent. I know from first hand experience how Orlando is the epitome of this Situation. Orlando around (Texas & Americana) they have pretty decent looking apartment complexes but once you drive up on them it’s a whole different vibe from the outside just driving by. You see people hanging out just like in this video. For the better looking ones from the outside are sometimes mixed income apartments. Meaning they go based off your income. As a matter of fact, most public housing is like this. Gone of the days when everyone was paying $100 dollars a month. Now I’m todays remodel housing projects you could be paying $200 a month but your neighbor could be paying $800 a month. Orlando has one of the craziest looking apartments nah e ever seen in the Old Blossom Trail area (OBT), on Texas there was a complex names Tempaskamp. They place looked like a bomb dropped on it and the people survived and just stayed there. Man that place was was a war zone using RPGs! Literally half a building here and there, holes in units etc..
