  • Match gap on the necker is defined as the radial clearance between the necking die inner diameter, commonly known as the bore diameter, and the knock-out outer diameter, also known as the minor diameter.
Crushed, puckered, pleated, and squatting cans are the consequences of a poorly defined match gap in a necking production process. With a match gap too tight or too wide or changing production parameters, different issues can occur that increase waste and necker spoilage percentage in can manufacturing.
