Josie don't replace the sinks in the master bathroom it's absolutely gorgeous!!
The hydrangeas are the macrophylas, they need lots of water and prefer shade. If you want to have your hydrangeas in the sun, you should get hydrangea paniculata. Also you donât water enough. What Iâve seen Charlie do in the videos is just sprinkle overhead. ThatÂŽs nothing. Watering should be done at the bottom of them stem for at least 30sec from the hose straight into the ground. Also donât water anything during the day, especially in the sunshine. Do it early in the morning or in the evening when the sun is down. Otherwise, itâll all fry in the sun
Oh!!!! The sinks in the master bathrooms are GORGEOUS! I think that replacing all the chrome with gold... (imho) may look ostentatious. Consider, please! I know YOU love gold (to wear)... anyhow, think about it.
The plants from the "salad boxes" need to be separated and transplanted to proper distances. They are not meant to be left all together in clump. There are enough there to supply all your salad needs for a very long time. Augment with seeds planted every couple of weeks to extend harvest through growing season. The hydrangea damage is almost certainly frost, as the one in the urn is not exposed to clay soil, and most of the lower leaves appear okay on the larger plants. Many of the newer hydrangea varieties can recover from frost damage and even bloom on new growth, as opposed to the older varieties which bloom on old (last year's) growth. Just leave them alone this year - perhaps plant some annuals to fill in for this year.
Josie, from 12 to 15 may there are ice saints days , with sometimes very cold nights (ex. -1) and your plants got frozen. It's frost damage. Nonetheless you are doing well with your garden:) xxx
Josie. The master bedroom will be gorgeous.
Can't wait to see it done.
I wouldn't change the master bathroom. It has so much character as is.
I love those two little doggies of yours.
Please, please go gently with the pink! You have such a lovely, historic house, absolutely gorgeous. Please consider to keep the ambiance of it. Not meaning to be disrespectful, I just love the house as it is!
Josie Hydrangeas like shade. They don't do well in direct sun. The drop in temp may have damaged them as well.đđ„ŽđŁ
Tree Flan Inclined to agree with you. I have two hydrangeas in large glazed pots growing in dappled shade. They are four years old and they do very well. I always water at the base of the plant and not too often either! Love your house and garden, Josie đ
I think the frost has got your hydrangeas but could possibly be the spraying of the fields....... also dry your flowers by turning them upside down and letting them dry naturally then pull off the petals , I do this to all my roses that I get and then put them in vases once dried and use as a display they make great props for flat lays when youâre doing your photography, a large display if faux flowers in a vase would look stunning in the fireplace in your bathroom đčđčđžđž
Debby Townsend , I agree or could be due to the lack of nutrient appropriate soil or under or overwatering. That doesnât explain the why the wisteria also browned at the same time. Wisteria could be due to again not appropriate watering and or grubs. For the type of hydrangeas that were planted I do not believe they can cope with sudden changes in the planting. I have many hydrangea bushes but different species and different soil conditions, than what they gave. Different plants require different types of soil. Plants that are in pots should have potting soil and not garden soil. I noticed in their gardens I do not recall them adding in any new type of soil and who knows if the previous owners had recently topped of the gardens with fresh soil with nutrients, as I suspect they have been totally depleted. I wonder if Josie and Charlie can find out from the neighbour what type of spray was used by the neighbours and they can look at the toxicology, as the dogs are constantly rolling in the grass and hereâs Josie having her mint tea!
It happened to my hydrangeas too, when i moved them. But they restored. I think you're only supposed to move them in autumn after their flowers die.
Hydrangeas do not like direct sun. Worth to place them away of sun.
Josie you might want to cut and prune down your hydrangeas and transplant them to the shade of your garden since they donât really like too much sun the roots are fine and once you transplant them and prune them they will regrow and bloom again and when you water them water underneath the plant donât spray directly onto the leaves, you might want to prune back some of the wisteria as well so they can give you more beautiful blooms and the same when you water it let the water run closer to the soil under the Wisteria and donât spray directly on the leaves when you water them this causes the leaves to burn and get mildew . There is also a book by Jerry Baker whom I highly recommend he will teach you tips on how to care for your garden using natural cures so that you can stay away from harmful pesticides or chemicals you can also find his videos on you tube Jerry Baker Master Gardener I highly recommend him I used his tips for many years and they do wonders for your garden. You might want Charlie to look up at his videos too so that he can also learn a lot from Jerry Baker.
No Josie, you shouldn't dry out your rose petals in a glossy book like that. The idea of the book is that the pages absorb some of the moisture but squeeze and concentrate the color. You need a normal sort of "chapter" book, with more porous paper, this is why people suggest phone books. Also the petals might stain some of the pages, but they will still be readable. I hope you read this, we don't want Charlie being right about the petals again.
Absolutely, I love drying my flowers this way!
You need to use kitchen paper or blotting paper between the pages of the book ,another great way to dry petals or beautiful autumn leaves is between absorbent paper under a heavy rug Do like your have a go attitude! I have lived in 2 grade 2 star listed homes and you must be mindful of being the custodian only of that historical building it will long out live you and Charlie . When Your gorgeous mother moves into the guest house she will have tons of good advise Iâm sure .
Charlie and Josie, you're doing a great job on the garden. We learn by doing, making mistakes and tweaking. God bless. You really are a precious couple.
I've had hydrangeas a long time and let me tell you they are hard plants to keep happy! When you water them do it either first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon and water them on the roots rather than the leaves. The main cause of "leaf burn" is caused by the water droplets on the leaves magnifying the direct sunlight thus causing burning on the leaves. Another thing that upsets hydrangeas is too much fertilizer in the soil or pesticides (so maybe farmer is spraying too much and like you said it is blowing into your garden). Mine are all in clay type mud and they are thriving but I have been through the same kind of problems when I started out with them. Good luck!
Mine are in clay too and they are thriving( as all the plants here). It is very wet in autumn and winter but they all donât seem to mind.
The Hydrangeas look as though they have been caught by the frost.
Apparently most of them get spiral/deep roots in the nursery pots which need to be cut off to keep them flat and surface bound... also i read that they prefer partial shade and a PH of 5/6
@@jenniferboyle2865 also possible đ€
@@evy7417 Depends on the breed of Hydrangea. Some love full sun and others partial.
Josie and Charlie: You both have really done such an amazing job in your garden! You can really see the garden thriving. Awesome work
For the hydrangea, the roots might still be ok. Maybe cut off the top part so that the energy from the sun can work into the roots and get rid of the parts that might have the poison.
I donât think itâs poison, donât cut them. Put it in the shade and water them well
Please be careful making changes and using paints that arenât II* listing friendly. Iâm sure youâre aware how stringent the rules can sometimes be already just thought Iâd mention âșïž
The bathroom floor is gorgeous! A shame to paint it pink! X
There was a sharp frost the night before with the temperature going down to over -1 degrees. Almost certainly frost damage. You've only just planted them so I suggest lifting them and putting them back in their pots and putting them in a sheltered greenhouse and see if they survive after a week. At this time of year, hydrangeas would just have a few leaf buds and would normally survive. The same with the wisteria with the frost affecting the blooms. Hope this helps!
Frost damage, you needed to cover them at night with a sheet or tarp with stones on the edges or plant dome covers. You mentioned you had frost in two vlogs ago. General rule is if you need a jacket at night, so do your plants. Note: If you missed cover them and notice frost on your plants, first thing in the morning rinse off the plants with a hose, rinsing the frost off as soon as possible may prevent the frost bite damage.
Thanks for showing us what hasnât gone well for you in the garden...good to know weâre not the only ones these things happen too!
Hydrangeas do not like full sunshine, nor do they like being exposed to the elements, such as the wind. You should not put them on high pedestals, they prefer being near the ground.
Oh wonderful Josie that mum is going to live there. How lovely đ
Oh those pups are just so adorable.
Great video. Fashion, make-up and gardening. All my favorites.
Hi Josie. Loving the new home and garden enthusiam. Ignore the comments from the negative nellies. I have had some major gardening disasters over the years. It's how we learn. Agree with others that have mentioned issues with the clay soil and direct sunlight for the hydrangeas. I would also recommend trimming them back and moving them, then making that bed into a gorgeous rose bed.
Dear Josie, don't be sad. The hydrangeas and the wisteria are not dead. There have been a few frosty nights and both plants are somewhat sensitive to frost when they shoot. Therefore, the leaves and especially those of the hydrangea driven in the greenhouse have turned brown in the cup in front of the house. H. macrophylla in particular can be damaged by frost in the flower. Wait, gently prune the plants back in late May. I would recommend a new plant for the cup.
Yay always know when to come to CZcams! Thank you so much Josie for your hard work, Iâm in the middle on cleaning my roomđđ
Seems like they are getting too much sun. They prefer part sun particularly in the morning. Afternoon sun will fry them. Also they prefer sandy or loamy soil. The soil also needs to a little acidic.
Looks like the cold snap got to the tender shoots and blooms of both the hydrangeas and the wisteria. Trim it back, and make sure to use a fertilizer like RoseTone, slow release. Hopefully it will choose to flush back once the warmer weather arrives!
Charlie really loves to cook!!!!That meal looked delicious!!! Can't wait to see the master bedroom painted!!!! Picking a paint color is exhausting!!!! You two must be so excited that the workers can finally get started!!!!
Would love to take one of those sinks off your hand unfortunately I am in Canada! hoping you will change your mind and keep them they are beautiful , not sure the effort and costs are worth replacing something already so timeless.
Love I can't wait to see how the master bedroom came to life.
Josie you are doing such an incredible job on these videos! You are an absolute treasureâ€ïžâ€ïž living for these home vlogsđ€©
So excited to see the finished master bedroom and bath! How exciting!!
Again, another epic vlog!đ this is my coffee break time and it is the perfect opportunity to have a few minutes with you, your beautiful home and family! ! So sorry about your beautiful plantsđą. So looking forward to seeing your master bedroom done and decorated!đ€©
Josie!!!! Itâs frost that has killed your hydrangeas!!! Flowers canât handle the late frost that we had this week xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You and Charlie and your Mom and Dex and Dickens will all be very happy. Sooo many are truly happy for you and just appreciate all that you do. Thank youđđđđđ
Hi Josie! My mum watches your channel lots and she mentioned to me about your hydrangeas! Sorry to see them in such a state. Gardening is a learning experience and I know sometimes garden failures can be quite emotional. As most others have noted hydrangeas typically prefer the shade. However if you did want hydrangeas in the sun, I suggest you go for the limelight hydrangea or little lime. They are a favourite in my garden and they have a stunning pink hue in the autumn season. I wouldn't discount the idea that your neighbour might be spraying. Hope you end up having a chat to him about it. Always good to get to the bottom of these thing so it doesn't happen again. In the mean time. Chop the bad bits off and replant in the safer spot. Your Wisteria is Hardy. As I have found, it's pretty difficult to kill a wisteria. Good luck! Love from New Zealand!
I love your vanity. Itâs so glamorous! And that garden is beautiful
omg! the bedroom sounds amazing! I can't wait to see it once it's finished xx
I am in LOVE with those Bare Minerals shades! I am happy to hear they are long wearing as well! Thank you girl!
Living for these vlogs!! Thank you xxx
Regarding your plants. I also live next to farmers fields but no spraying has occurred but I've had some very sad plants. My theory is that we've had some very cold nights and both our gardens are exposed to the countryside so we do get the frost. I've replanted some of my dead plants and it's looking more promising now its warmer xx
It was the frost you had a couple of days ago. Then the sun comes out and finishes them off. The frost will always get the new blooms. If your stems are still green they should come back. I was raised by a flower nursery by my father and every time we would get frost this would happen.
Love This Lovely Video Sooo Very Much Josie!! The Haul Was Amazing loved all the Items!! You Have Exquisite Taste!! Thank You For a Fantastic Video as Always!! Sending Much Love!
Evening Josie đ - So sad to see the flowers have died, I hope you are able to find out the cause asap. Though I am glad to see you are able to get works done on the home slowly but surely and safely! Always a highlight of the day to see your upload đđ
The playing cards are so cute!
I'm just so obsessed with your content, I am LOVING seeing you guys and your English countryside life! So dreamy and so well-deserved! đđ
Hi Josie, only subscribed to your channel recently and already I am enjoying these wonderful vlogs. I think itâs because itâs a good variety of topics..beauty, clothes and my favourite..your gorgeous house! You are such a lovely person and so down to earth. And Charlie seems so sweet and certainly puts in great effort with the house, garden and cooking. I felt quite down this morning but after watching 2 latest vlogs You really helped me get back on track. Thanks and keep up the good work!
You have impeccable taste, can't wait for the end result. Have a fab weekend đ
I'm still loving these new house vlogs! I can't believe it's been a month already! Also, I'm so glad to see that you're going about business as usual after all the drama in the comments the other day. Thanks for being a ray of sunshine during quarantine!
We had the same problem in London because the temperature dropped so drastically!! The plants were flowering so beautifully when we had sunny days, so I think the cold wind burnt them. But summer is coming and we will have our plants flowering again!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful content every day!! I get so much inspiration from your videos!!
Why I like you compare to other influencers? Because youâre not afraid to show us how much you eat haha like a full meal! Thatâs why I like seeing you cook and prepare food. I can relate đ
Look forward to the vlogs every day. Love your bathroom cabinet, itâs so gorgeous x
iâm so excited to see the house finished!
Josie where do I start! Excellent vlog. The bouquet is lovely. Tray of lipsticks is EPIC, LUV the first shade you showed! Scarf, dress and leggings are all GORGEOUS. Painting the bathtub pink would put me in heaven, great idea Charlie â€
Every video you do is my new favorite!đ I absolutely loved that floral Ted Baker dressđ Excited to see the progress on your bedroom!đ
The watercolor florals may be your signature print for fabric.
Love all the Ted Baker pieces, especially tge white dress with flowers, so feminine! And don't worry about the garden and plants, they'll liven up as soon as the sun comes out, I have the same thing with mine! Can't wait to see the finished result with thr master bedroom, I reckon it's gonna look spectacular! Your house will be design inspo for my future one!
Josie, your hydrangeas are not dead, they are in shock, probably the changes of weather over the last few days have put them into shock. Cut them back to just above a leaf node nearer the ground, above soil level obviously, and then watch them regrow, they will recover during the more stable part of the season. They do however prefer a little shade during the hottest part of the day! I have many in my one and a half ac garden, the new ones are not as hardy as the old ones that have been around forever. Try not to water them too much initially , you must remember they are developing a root system, until they do that they can become water- logged, although they love moisture they do not love wet feet!!! cut out the wisteria branches that are damaged, probably due to wind burn, and that too will recover. xxxxxx
This master bedroom is going to be soo grand. I canât wait to see your plans for it. Great vlog!!
The bedroom is going to be stunning and how beautiful will a pink tub be.... so excited to see your transformations....love you guys and thank you for all your hard work keeping us all entertained xx đ
Your garden is so dreamy!!!
I loved the plans for the master bedroom.
Hi josie loving the updates of your new home. If it's a master bedroom, pink maybe a little too much, cause Charlie sleeps there too.. But you have fabulous taste and I'm sure it will be gorgeous. Best wishes to you both. And the little doggies too..
It does look like something hit the blooms and leaves of the hydrangeas, rather than a problem with the roots, lack of water or anything like that. The weed killer is one option, but there would be a lot of damage all around your garden if that were the case. I would guess frost damage, if it's been chilly. Too much sun can damage hydrangeas like that too as they prefer to be a little shaded during the hottest hours of the afternoon, but it doesn't seem likely for sun to burn your plants in the UK in May!
I really recommend checking the night time temperature and if it seems like it won't go below 5 C in the foreseeable future, give the hydrangeas a good trim. Cut all the damaged parts off and let the plant recover. If you have more chilly nights ahead, it's not a good idea to trim quite yet, because the damaged bits actually protect the healthy parts of the plant underneath.
I am in love with your pups! They are divine!
Omg...a pink bath,how lovely
Hey, another lovely vlog, thank you so much I am loving all your vlogs a daily highlight, I settle down with my sausage dogs crew and we all watch together! I wonder if you could either do a blog post or a vid or your Cookidoo faves, I love seeing what you make and it inspires me to make different things. Do you prefer the TM6? xx
Donât paint the bath pink.. black is gorgeous.. I know is not your color but it gives the room a sophisticated look.. I would suggest changing the bathroom set to gold or rose gold to give it more of an antique character but remember that when itâs all done you will give it some color by adding your towels and robes and floor mats
Josie, your eyebrows look fabulous. NOT too dark (as you seemed concerned about on the last vlog I watched). (I have eyebrow envy).
Hydrangeas are very sensitive to cold, especially frost. This happened in my garden as well since we are experiencing cold in May. So sorry, Josie.
Hi from Australia. I love all your videos and its nice to see you both work so well together on your garden. Iâve grown hydrangeas and found they need some shade and not full sun. You maybe able to save your plants by cutting them well back and replanting in a morning sun position. Good luck đŠ
Good videos, Charlie & Josie. Congrats on your new 14th century home in the Cotswold , England. Enjoy the English countryside. Nice accents.
Hi Josie, just a suggestion...the fireplaces in your home are absolutely stunning!! How about staggering height, thick pillar candles on the most elegant rod iron candelabra base. Expensive possibly but so cozy and at least keeping with the "fire" theme as they are fireplaces. Again just a suggestion. đđđ
Oh my gosh, I believe Ted Baker had you in mind when he designed those outfits, they're lovely.đ and they'll look even lovelier on you.
Love the background music when you and Charlie were in the garden. Also Love the yellow pastel dress.
If you want to paint your dressing table, use chalk paint maybe in antique white. It's easy to use, no need to sand. I use it all the time. Painted upcycled furniture, my front door even the fridge. đ
I love the way you say, "PAMper", it's so lyrical đ”â€ïž
I have studied Environmental Sciences and while I'm not a Gardener I know some basic stuff. Plants are depended on specific settings, like pH of the soil, type of the soil, water supply and temperature, they have their optimum somewhere in between and it is specific for species or variations.(My Bachelor thesis was about dry grass lands and their different plant societies)
Also, herbicides depend on what is planted in the field. There are Monocotyl and Dicotyl plants you should look up what the difference is firstly because it will also help you with your own garden.
If the field has crop like wheat, they can spray herbicides that will kill of dicotyl plants but if they crop like cabbage they would use monocotyl herbicide that will kill grass, for example. (They are selective, the selectiveness can also be due to other mechanisms). Before planting anything they can spray nonselective herbicide and that maybe happened to your plants.
You should talk with your neighbour what he uses so you know for sure. You can't prevent him from using it, but he could, maybe change the spraying to a not so windy day or keep it more close to the soil.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbicide (is a good starting point for gaining some basic information)
The dream vlog: home + PR goodies + hauls
Canât wait to see the room when itâs all done
my new lunch time addiction !! YOUR VIDEOS.. â€ïž
Hahaha oh my god the way Dickens was slurping your coffee
I think itâs frost damage. The temperatures really dropped a few nights ago.
Hi Josie, and congratulations on your stunning new home!!! I'm late to your post but was thinking frost damage too as all my pieris got damaged by the frost too!!! I'd leave them in that I wouldn't prune them back but I would plant them somewhere more protected. Good luck and hope you got to the root of the damage. oxo
Charlie needs to brush up on his gardening knowledge. Enthusiasm is part of the battle but it's useful to be able to correctly identify herbs and to know that it's not advisable to move roses in May. Wisteria is better left undisturbed or should be transplanted in Autumn or very early Spring or it may not flower again for several years. A little learning can be a dangerous thing (especially in the garden....)
Rude know-it-all. Maybe you should brush up on your manners.
I agree, gardening is not as easy as it looks. But part of the fun is learning from your mistakes
@@JEHOVAH485 Oh dear, Lynn Holbrook. No need to be personally abusive. My post was constructive criticism/friendly advice. Oh and I do know what I am talking about.
@@susannahjones5654 Abusive? You, my dear, are the abusive one-and arrogant and condescending to boot.
Love these vlogs. When is Charlie going to make a cooking channel? Itâs been very cold in the mornings so may be the frost that has got to the plants as well as the farmers spraying. I would wait for a week or two before you put out any potted plants.
So sorry about your hydrangeas! I do not have a green thumb with planting. Wish I can help give you some advice but I am no good. The weather here in US has been super weird so my mom has not started her garden yet. It's just been cold. Can't wait to see the final result for your master bedroom. I really think the room itself is very lovely.
Frost and cold can do a lot of damage to plants. Love the mint tea and the idea for a pink tub!
Fireplaces are beautiful with a couple of trunks and dry pine cones đŻïž
Hi Josie l think maybe your hyderanges would like a more sheltered spot. In Australia we plant ours away from the wind in a sheltered spot and they seem to do well. The herbs seem to be coming on really well. Lovely video, your master bedroom is started that's great. Thanks again for sharing xxxx
I think itâs frost that have got to your hydrangeas when you plant new plants in the garden and itâs still slightly cold early hours in the morning itâs best to wrap them up Iâve used a plastic bag or bubble wrap over my newly planted plants ! And I didnât cover one other new plant in the garden and it went exactly like your hydrangea plant đ xxx
Josie, have you looked at Dulux trade, Almond white, its a very pale beige/white, fresh but has a warmth to it and compliments wooden floors.x đ
This sounds perfect!
Hi Josie, so sorry to see what happened to the hydrangeas and wisteria ! I made a comment below under someone elseâs. I think you should have a lipstick tea party with your girlfriends as you have those numerous bareMinerals lipsticks now! Those would be great gifts for each of your family and closest friends. I was just about to purchase my favourite bareMinerals tinted hydrating gel cream with SPF 30, that I will now add to my list to try out their hydrating lipstick. I also think your idea of an antique white paint in your master bedroom would be absolutely divine! Thanks for yet another great Vlog.
The scarf would look amazing framed đ
You can make a lovely pink chive-vinegar with the chiveflowers! Just chuck as many blooms as you can in a jar and fill with vinegar, let it rest for a couple of days and strain. Tastes oniony. And chive flowers are delicious in salads!
Also, it is best not to move roses in may. It's just too late for that, the rose will experience a setback. Happy gardening!
Ma'am your plan is great and i know you are going to execute it beautifully
I have a similar dressing table and mirror. I have painted mine and highlighted the mirror with a gilding wax. Take photos of the gilding to help you when you come to that part. The dressing table comes up lovely so itâs worth a try. Good luck. Edited to say, can you do a vlog on the bare minerals lipsticks please Josie, I love their foundation as Iâm an older lady, it doesnât sit in my â laughter linesâ. Iâm interested to see if they are any good. Thank you. Scrub that last bit. Iâve got to the end of your vlog đđđ
Hydrangeas also they might have been killed from any kind of frost or hard freeze you would have had. I live in the South in the USA and we have what you call clay instead of dirt. I have so many friends who have those and they thrive in our red clay here haha. But I remember in some of your other videos before this you mentioned that you woke up to frost etc. Yeah that will do it for sure. Just a thought it might but be true. If you get temps that are in the freezing range again just cover the flowers up at night until the temp reaches above freezing. It is a pain in the bottom but it is so sad when plants don't make it! I totally understand. :) Love your beautiful house and can't wait to catch up on all your current videos.
Josie, those plants and bushes look like you guys had freezing weather and it leaves those things black and it kills buds. Your home island grounds are beautiful!
I love that you both are loving gardening. Put the hydranga in your greenhouse to rest. Years ago we bought the readers digest book of flowers and veg. Its huge but we hsve had it now almost 40 yrs. Look for one, its a garden bible cause even after years of gardening my husband still uses it for tips and info. đđ±đŒđčđđ
