    This song, I think, makes a clear message against the ABUSE of religion, as well as its hand-in-hand relationship with governmental attempts to deceive, pacify, and control the masses, as opposed to religion itself.
    I feel physically disgusted when people who claim to be Christians try to impose closed-mindedness and fear-based hatred onto others, making those of us who try to exhibit the positive example Christ laid forth look like trash. I'm not sure what there is that we can do to combat this, but the hate and manipulation has to stop before it's too late.

    The lines "Lose freewill to gain protection" is an awesome reference to a quote by Benjamin Franklin, “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Song is a pure statement about the state of not only our government (and many politicians who either hide behind or use religion, specifically Christianity) but the state of society as well. I'm sure there are people who would question, debate, or berate this comment, but I, personally, have not heard a more powerful statement since Green Day's American Idiot album.

      I am a Christian. But first and foremost I am a citizen of the country We The People used to call The United States of America. I have my beliefs..they are what founded and made this country GREAT! No one sees that anymore...this country is going to the shitter and no one sees why....I have my beliefs...and the understanding of where WE CAME FROM...We were once great..now we fall away...If people of this country would open their eyes maybe they would see as well..but I'll not hold my breathe..but I do have my beliefs.

    • @thecompfreak8302
      @thecompfreak8302 Před 9 lety +15

      I don't really follow what your point it. You can't really state that the USA was founded on Christian beliefs when the founding fathers stated that religion was to be kept separate from any act, decision, or law put in place or made by government. Hence, separation of Church and State. The problem is not that people have forgotten where we came from, the problem is that many people in the government want to GO BACK to what the colonies started as; a collective that is ruled over and governed by what the church and the bible say and not what the people saw. You can have your beliefs, that's what Freedom of Religion and Freedom of Speech are for, but you cannot force your beliefs onto others through any means without breaking the fundamentals of what America was founded. Freedom from persecution, freedom to live our lives the way we choose to live our lives and believe what we want to believe. If you want to go back to what the country was founded then you would have to undo every inch of progress, humanitarily, that we have achieved over the last 150+ years. That means re-instituting slavery, and demolishing women's rights. America was not founded on religious beliefs, but the belief that we had the right to choose what to believe, and that everyone should have that right and not be forced to follow what someone else believes.

    I'm a Christian through and through... and when a friend, who isn't necessarily a christian, told me to look at this song I was worried I wasn't gonna like it cuz of the title. But I was wrong they make many good points. There are so many people in the world that use Jesus as an excuse to practically get away with murder.
    It pisses me off on how many people out there are ruining the way the people view christians. Westboro baptist church being the number one reason. In the bible God never uses the word hate, towards anyone. He even loves the Devil, because he created him. Jesus ate dinner w/ sinners on a daily basis. Westboro Baptist Church and those like them are the "Pharisees" of our time. They judge when they should be judging themselves.
    I don't really care what you believe, that is your choice and you're free will, I will not force my beliefs upon you and I ask that you do the same.

      I think it also touches on the fact that religion is nothing but a business anymore. Not that I'm religious at all, but now you have to pay for certain churches. People use the name Jesus Christ to sell their products because they know that they can abuse the fact that people are religious (gullible) to make them think that bu buying a product, they will some how please Jesus Christ.

Being a human being and having a sense of what's right and wrong gives myself reasoning to think what's happening in my world. "My" world because to each his or her own. I'm not sick not tired of this world. Im grateful. We all have a voice. Choose the words wisely without losing our humanity

"As a band, we get a sick feeling in our stomach, an ache in our head, and a pump of blood to our fists when we witness religious and political leaders telling people how to live, as if they have some kind of monopoly on the truth," he said. "This song is about how the truth is within us all, not in a man or in society."

    I really love this band and this song! And what's even better are the comments, which are quite similar to my own thoughts which is kinda rare for me. I'm a christian, completely and utterly in love with Jesus and God, and it's crazy how many times i've been asked prejudice questions as if i'm expected to HATE people in this world. Makes no sense to me! I think of it this way -is it honestly believed that when God was forming someone in their mother's womb that he didn't know what would become of them? Of course not! God sees everything that can transpire in our lives like branches stemming from a tree. He saw it all and still formed them. Why? Because he loved them. Jesus says "love your brothers and sisters as i have loved you" and they are my brothers and sisters. If it is not the most beautiful thing to know that God literally formed everyone as someone to be our brother and sister in this life, regardless of our own sins (that's right, our own because we should be humble enough to focus on our own sins rather than criticizing our siblings), than I don't know what is! It's just so... amazing!- anyway, enough of my rant, i completely agree with the song that religion is misused for personal gain and propaganda. Just remember "Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others" and suddenly we see that very few people on TV are actually listening. I guess it wouldn't be very entertaining if everyone was just listening to each other though :P

I listen to a lot of openly christian rock and metal bands, or rather bands with christian members who share their faith though their music, and a lot of them have songs that deal with the same exact theme of corrupt politics and unethical practices by organized religion and the leaders in both that this song uses. So, yes, I'm a christian, and I like this song.

    God only hates the way we wound ourselves and the way we hurt others because that hurts Him. He's relational, and no, He did not make us robots. That's why people CAN hurt each other. That's why there is evil in the world...because we are free to choose. We have a choice in everything. Personally, I choose to have a relationship with God. It's truly not about rules. I love Him because He shows me unconditional love. He's always, always been there for me, even in the hardest times. I know Him like a friend--closer than a friend.

    the idea that a pure force of good could exist and has the power to end evil but chooses to let it exist or even worse uses it to instill fear into your heart to force you to love it, is twisted, vindictive, arrogant, wicked, and in itself the most evil thing anyone can ever do. if god truly wants your love then why threaten you for it or ask you to worship him. i love my family. i love my wife and my son my mother and father my brothers and sister but i do not build shrines and sacrifice the living in their honor that would be crazy so why should i do it for someone i dont even know. and even more so i love them even when they do things they should not do and instead of torturing them forever i try to help and if they dont except my help guess what i still love them and i wait for the day they are willing to let me help them and if that day doesn't come i will still love them and try to help them until i am no longer alive to do so. you see the only time line on my ability to love is that i have to stop existing before id give up on you. how is it that we can have more compassion than the god of the bible and yet this doesn't trigger any alarms?

    As a Christian I support this song's message absolutely. This is what has become of western Christianity. A corporate religion. I don't go to church anymore, full of cannibalistic hate and fear preaching. The people who need the most help are treated like a threat and outcasted, including myself. I asked questions they didn't like, believing in a God who loves more and more equally than what they preached. Less fear, more peace, less aggression, more passion, less anger, more rest.
    It should be clearer where there's an issue when I grow closer to God by not going to church, and making a point of it.

    To be honest, I love that someone's willing to call out all this bullshit without attacking religion itself. I don't know if the intended message was directed towards religion in a hostile, but from how I've interpreted this song, it's attacking all these corporate bigwigs tryna sell religion as a product. As a Christian myself, I'm fed up with both the ends of the bullshit spectrum (one being "God hates you and you can't get out of hell unless you cut your hair and listen to/say what we tell you" and the other end being "I see you're in a burning house, but that's your business and I'm not gonna offer any help") being pushed by politicians and televangelists.
