  • In the Book of Mormon, Captain Moroni built large fortifications throughout the land of Zarahemla. These fortifications exist and can still be seen at Hopewell sites in the Eastern United States. In this video I discuss and map all of the known Hopewell fortifications that fit the Book of Mormon, and then show that these fortifications point to the Ohio area as the land of Zarahemla in a modified Heartland Book of Mormon geography.
    This channel provides faithful Latter-Day Saint content including scientific and archaeological evidence supporting the Book of Mormon.
    My book on DNA and the Book of Mormon is called "Face of a Nephite" and may be found here: www.digitalege...
    I like to provide evidence supporting the Book of Mormon, focusing on DNA evidence, archaeological evidence, Native American artifacts, and investigating the ancient Native American Hopewell culture that was centered in Ohio in Book of Mormon timeframes. I prefer the Heartland location for the geography of the Book of Mormon and lean towards Ohio as the location for Zarahemla. I also value evidence regarding Hebrew (Israelite) influence in Mesoamerica and evidence for the peopling of the Americas.

    These were all of the Native American fortifications I could find that fit the Book of Mormon description. If you know of any others, please note them below so I can add them. There are certainly lots more mound and earthwork sites in other places, but I couldn't find any others that were clearly fortifications matching the right timeframe.
    After making the video I learned that the Becan site in Mesoamerica also has a surrounding moat and earth walls which could date back to Book of Mormon timeframes (perhaps 100 AD).

      I love the BOM. It's amazing to me that these archeologist wonder around from South America. Central America and all the way into The upper America's to find out who and what these people were. And where did they GO! Read the book! Ya read the book and it's all there.

      As my name states, I’m no longer LDS BUT I think Smith intended the Heartland Model BUT when people say Midwest they are completely incorrect.
      It would be from the Rockies to NY State, as Young stated the Gadianton Robbers were located in the Rockies during his SLC temple dedication.
      Smith said the last great battle according to the BoM took place at the Hill Cumorah, or Ramha, where he found the plates…
      Thus the BoM lands would be from NY State to the Rockies

      You are correct, but the Hopewell suites are mostly in the B.C. time frame. After A.D. is when the west expansion took place.
      Brigham Young stated, several times, that the Gadiantons were in the Rockies.

      @@rogerthornton8064 according to the Smithsonian and other universities, the Hopewell started in the B.C.E. time frame and expanded well past, with some dying off not long before the Europeans arrived.
      Yes Young stated the Gadianton Robbers were in the Rockies, as I have stated in an episode I have as well, BUT the Gadianton Robbers were started aprrox. 50 B.C.E (Helaman 1:11), still before the Christian Era, and we still have zero evidence for them, or the Book of Mormon people's as claimed by church leaders.

    Shalom my Friend. Thank you so much for your Indepth research of the ancient mounds and earthworks. Because of your examination of the details of the Moundbuilders, many people will be able to understand the roles they played.

    I kept thinking about the video you did about the lamanite cities, no fortifications at those sights as the nephites generally didn’t attack them so none were needed. When people talk about meso America as a possible location it’s all about the native population and no evidence of a “different” people. Love actually seeing the differences and evidence of nephites that matches the Book of Mormon.

    • @Lamanitehistory
      @Lamanitehistory  Před měsícem

      @BillyFarris Yes, you're right. There are cultural differences between the sites that are in the Midwest versus the Southeast in that Book of Mormon timeframe. To me it fits a Nephite/Lamanite distinction.

    Terrific content, thanks for your efforts! I think most Heartlanders would say Zarahemla is in Iowa per D&C 125. Do you have a way of reconciling this? Are there fortifications there that we know of?

    • @Lamanitehistory
      @Lamanitehistory  Před měsícem +1

      @radone5896 I understand and respect that opinion. There are some mounds near there, but there's very little there compared to the many very large fortifications and earthworks that are centered around Ohio. The scriptures say the fortified cities and fortifications were around Zarahemla. D&C 125 says to name the Iowa town Zarahemla but never actually says it was Zarahemla. As I've studied the Hopewell more I have become convinced that Ohio is Zarahemla. In this video I gave EVERY fortification I could find that fits the Moroni description and timeframe. I am willing to add more if people find more.

    This is not the Lands of the Book or Mormons. There are some remaining Mesoamerican areas with fortification that were not reused as housing material or torn down.

      Your declaration of "it is not"is dogmatic, and I'm sorry to say... foolish. Unless you are proclaiming your self as the prophet of this dispensation. ... Otherwise we should leave absolute declarations to those in authority to make them. I have studied the geography of the book of Mormon since before most ppl have been alive. I have believed in bouth sides, and have changed my mind as new evidence is presented. Dogmatic belief is not faith.
