Going to Italy with Anne Lister | Anne Lister Italia

On Wednesday the 12th of July (2023) we had a talk in the Calderdale Archives in Halifax about our work as Anne Lister Italia.
Starting with a brief description of Italy in 1827, we follow Anne’s footsteps in Venice and Milan and share what we've found in the newspapers. We also discuss our research about some of Anne's acquaintances who lived or resided in Italy. Follow us to discover what correspondence revealed both about Miss Lister and the country of Italy itself!

Anne Lister (Halifax 1791-Koutaisi 1840) è stata una viaggiatrice, attivista politica, studiosa, lesbica, ma soprattutto la più grande diarista inglese. Ancora oggi la descrizione di una donna così desta ammirazione e curiosità, ma Anne è stata tutto questo e tanto altro nell’Inghilterra di circa due secoli fa. Il suo è sicuramente (almeno ad oggi) il primo racconto vivido e senza filtri di una vita vissuta in maniera fedele alla propria natura e alla propria indole, in ogni senso e fino in fondo. Senza concessioni al compromesso.
