Fun Fact: Only one exoplanet was found the year this movie came out. And it was more hypothetical. When they discuss Vega being to young to have a planetary system, it was not known how many exoplanets were truly out there. Today, there have been over 5,000 confirmed exoplanets, and even a large exoplanet that orbits the Vega star.
What's funny about this scene is that it was confirmed in 2003 or 2004 that Vega has a planetary system that's hidden behind the debri that they mention which is the outer asteroid belt. Interior to the belt it is anticipated that there is a solar system similar to ours and the outer asteroid belt is hidding the planets from our view.

Didn't catch the number thing until now!! Maybe a Zemeckis' little superstition. And we'll, I'm guessing base 10 numbers were the obvious take, precisely because it doesn't matter.
Contact and Jurassic Park are my two favourite films, my understanding is that prime number mathematics is very easily since the division can only be itself or 1 , it really is simple, basically how many of 7 can fit into 7 and how many times can 7 be divided by 1 so the only answers you can get are 7 or 1, it applies no matter how large the number I think and prime numbers essentially go on forever
3:17 I think there’s a mistake here. Mrs. Jodie Foster should have said "Fish is right" instead of Willie because Fisher is the skeptic one in the scene. Willie was positively arguing for the aliens' presence in a dangerous space environment.
They did a good job of keeping it to the book with some changes. I do think that's how we (humanity) would react. Religions would have issues going on with this, the governments would all think it's War coming, scientists would be happy and thinking of every possibility, general population would be just curious to find out everything.
