I totally agree. This guy is great. I would live to meet him. Smart with a great sense of humor.
I always hit like love this channel!!! Hope everyone has a good week.
So...I shared it...to myself this time...that help?
Oh yea I like every one I watch
Ahem... This is his full-time job. But yeah , Always entertaining.
I didn't even know Alabama had a governor.🤣😂🤣😂 LMAO
I grew up in Linden Alabama. My house was the old Valston Hotel and it was about 50 feet away from the spot where Rube Burrows was shot and killed.
And you can see his ghost on certain dark stormy nights.
Love the show
Addicted to the wonderful stories
Thank you
Glad you enjoy it!
Dammnn skippy! I drive truck so your episodes are pure gold bud. Download them and off I go with pure entertainment. Keep um comin!
As a contended resident if Lower Alabama - The Wiregrass - let me assure you that life in rural Alana is way better than life in New Jersey!!!!!!
Your stories about the old west are so entertaining!
Ala-DAMN-BAMA! In the house! (Guntersville…place of birth).
Josh back in the house as well…always good.
ROLL TIDE
I've always been a fan of your podcast even going back to the bloody beaver days, and I love seeing your show evolve and grow. I have to say though its nice to not have to shun my kids out of the room when I listen. Love the changes your making and keep em coming brother!
Man you know how to make a grown man cry! I’m standing here in my mom and dad’s driveway at 0214hrs. setting fence post in concrete so they’ll be set up enough tomorrow when I get home from work to continue building a new fence in front of the old one that’s falling down. And you are explaining my life and being broke. Thanks friend God Bless You.
the words you speak are true. keep up the good work and continue, love your inputs. thank you.
Man I got totally suckered into that story about leaving the kids on the plains, funny shit.
The 38-40 was one of the calibers Winchester made for the 1873 Winchester rifle. It was called the 38 Winchester Center Fire. It was actually a 40 caliber. Colt and everybody else chambered pistols for it. Lots of people didn't want to write the name of another gun maker on their weapons so it was called the 38-40 by lots of folks, manufacturers and purchasers alike. You can still find guns in this caliber. I think John Wayne's personal pistol, used in a lot of his movies, was a .38-40. Uberti makes a copy called the Rooster Shooter, but I've never seen one in .38-40. Kinda sad. Great podcast. You are my favorite story teller, bar none.
Not how those Old Caliber's work bud, 38 caliber 40 grain's of Black Powder just sayin
@@keithmaxwell2169 the 38-40 used (and uses) a .401 cal bullet. II mean no disrespect, and I thank you for your reply. A lot of the old Colt 38-40 revolvers were stamped with the number 40 on the bottom of the barrel back by the frame. I don't know if they all were, only the ones that I've had the pleasure of examining.
Alright alright alright a new Wild West extravaganza
One of my best friends is his great grandson. He got to hold the rifle that Rube is holding in his "death photo", a copy of which graced his office wall. Possibly the most interesting "bandit" in our history.
That's awesome
Lol
I'd love to meet your friend and know some of my outlaw relatives. According to my family, Rube was a cousin.
Rube must be kin to everyone in Lamar county. Everyone you talk to seems to be a descendant. 😂
The fact that we have this identical take on the name Vernon shows me I have a strong kinship with this man.
What I came here for, was an entertaining story out of history. What I got was a reality check on life and the current state (and past for that matter) on capitalism and the rich man. Preach brother Josh. Too many of us have lived the life of tuna and bologna. Glad to hear of others whom have lived through it and come out the other side. These are the tales of a silent majority that society tends to ignore, in an effort to dangle the carrot that is the American Dream.
Thanks for coming back. CZcams is getting real boring. I keep looping on serial killers for some reason.
Hey Florida Georgia Line, Hank definitely DID NOT do it that way!
Holy sht .an that rant near the end there touched my soul. I can relate to every word.
Rube was a 4th cousin to Clyde Barrow of Texas fame - one of their relatives changed the spelling of their name.
Yes! I'm a relative of both :D.
My mom's named Linda because her mom, Lois Jewel, was born in Linden, Texas. I always called Lois Baba. She always was proud to be a Texan. She was a delightful fierce wild soul force of nature whose mother migrated to North Alabama with a female friend to work textile mills after family migratory farm worker saga during dust bowl days. We never passed a harsh word betwixt us. Her dad, Arthur Columbus Davis ("Lum") was descended from the earliest white settler in Chattanooga area when Tennessee was the frontier and North of the wild raging river was Indian Territory.
Another great podcast thank you keep the good work coming he was thoroughly entertaining and very enlightening
Another great one man, I agree with what you said at the end, maybe he just got tired of working hard and getting nowhere, im also sure losing his wife might have pushed him over the edge. The postman he shot didn't deserve that though, but in the end it winds up like always, live by the gun, die by the gun.
Keep up the great work.
I don't have anything deep to say, commenting for the algorithm. I love the way you tell stories, you make it so much fun.
This entire episode has been causing me to laugh out loud and spit s*** out of my mouth thank you.
Hailing from Alabama and this is the first I've heard of Rube Burrow. I live a couple hours north of Lamar County. I'll certainly have to make a road trip sometime
Excellent episode, good to hear you " strange🤣" sence of humor is back....
I get at least one good genuine laugh out of every episode.
Ah the ole bloody beaver!
Being a native Marengo Countian, ive heard many stories on Rube. Thanks for the podcast
.38/40 was a black powder conversion round used with converted pistols. They made the carbine's to match the ammo. And yes the 38/40 was a smaller version of the 44/40.
Rube Burrow, never heard of him. Excited for this one as I hope for all of the, "this guy ain't no rube" jokes.
Boy are you going to be disappointed
Thank you from someone who lives in Alabama and knew nothing about this.
You’re welcome!
Dude you said geno Arkansas.. I'm from the Texarkana area. I'm very familiar with Genoa and fouke Arkansas. Lol
Being I live in lick skillet Alabama I can tell you we do have some strange town names
Your ending monologue ❤❤
Being poor is a bitch
The struggle is real
@@scottwyatt5173 everyday
The mail situation cracked me up. " wrong fucking answer "!
Josh: Thanks again!.Another well told story. Interesting character Rube Burrow and an interesting humorous narration!,It holds my attention while I gain knowledge!
A Portal Vein carries blood to the liver from the veins of the stomach, intestine, spleen and pancreas.Amen Rube.
An empty stomach and a full clip is fucking hell of a combination.
I live about an hour from Vernon, Alabama. It just your normal small, country ass southern town. I have seen and know people like Burrow. Work 30+ years and something happen and leave you with nothing but beg steal or borrow. I myself only make about 38k a year. I hunt, fish, grow vegetables and side hustle like hell. You get by how you can. Luckily, ive never been so desperate i had to resort to crime. Thanks for featuring a 'Bama boy...LOL.
Always a good day when i see a video from you. Hope family and baby is doing good.. Cheers
Great stuff as always. I live in Alabama and Rube Burrow is on my short list of gravesites to visit and do a video on. I love the no non sense way you cover these historical tales. And I think we may be closer that I thought on the Pat Garret Story than I thought after your last video. I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for doing what you do.
Thanks Danny! Like your stuff, too!
He’s buried in sulligent Alabama I think
I’m glad I found your channel Josh and I can’t believe I didn’t find it sooner, but I been watching every night. Just wanted to say thanks for the great content man!
I'm glad you did too! Thank you!
Have a friend named Vernon from central Missouri sometimes goes by Virgil and yes he skins his deer in and out of season with a case pocket knife.
Change Vernon's case for a buck or old-timer knife and the overalls to jeans or green wool firefighter pants and you described most natives uncles or grandpa's😂
Omg the part about no camo deer hunting abd cleaning the deer with a pocket knife is 1/3 of the men in my family. Indiana.
Switzerland county?
Yellow fever .... I love it lol
Lamar County resident/ amateur local historian here.... Thoroughly enjoyed this. Glad to see some solid content on Ole Rube on here. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! Glad I did Rube's story justice.
Thank You for a video about a deep south outlaw, that was busy in my neck of the woods. Love your podcast. Keep up the great work young man! 👍
P.S. I can't believe you didn't mention Thomas Jackson, the detective that stayed on his trail night and day and was a very effective detective from Jackson, Mississippi. But still an awesome podcast!
I'm from elmore County AL and never heard of Rube. Damned good story and so true on the being a poor broke bastard. Sounds like you mightve been there for a minute or 2. Seems like if you don't have a massive farm and big contracts a farmer always struggles. There's some poor bastards in South west AL still. Hell most all of bama
And there it is. Like an outlaws schedule you assume it follows you. Badass Josh and as far as ill gotten booty I ain't never got it ill but as far as being a Indian, I'm a savage regardless. Thanks Cheif. BTW cool fact. I'm a Lamar County TX native
Another interesting podcast Josh. I had never heard of Ribe Burrow before. I was wondering if you have any plans to do anymore podcast videos on any Wild West men that took part in the Lincoln County War. I was recently reading an article about Henry Newton Brown and he took part in The Lincoln County War and rode with the Regulators and took part in the Ambush of Shriff Brady. Would you be interested in doing a video on him? Also I came across a book on Boone Helm which I believe is the same book you mentioned in your video on him, The Kentucky Cannibal: TheTrue Story of an Outlaw, Murderer, and Man Eater by Ryan Green. I found a copy was wondering if it's worth the read?
I'm hoping to do one on Doc Scurlock soon
Josh I have been jumping around your content, always like but haven't commented in a minute. Really entertaining content! You got me good with the story of his kids. Still torturing my better half, using your voice and playing it straight with whatever happens to be going on around us...
. LoLz 🙂
Thanks man!
Not sure how I found your channel but been really enjoying your stories.
Vernon owned a great BBQ shack, down the road from where I used to live in Black Diamond, WA. I got a real strong vibe of Eastwood's William Munny starting out.🤔
I live in Okaloosa County, FL. Next to Santa Rosa County. I LOVE them swamps!
Markings on clothing found got a lot of people busted back then you would think people would cut markings off their clothes or laundry stamps
Black Bart too
Jim and rube are my great great etc. cussins on my mommas side of the family my grandfathers, grandfathers children. When I was really young around 5-6 my pawpaw use to read those luise lamar western novels and he had one them old dime store books called outlaws of the Wild West. And in the book it had every known and most unknown robbers and gunslingers with there bio and a short story of each outlaws antics. But at end of each story was always a tragic ending and every ended had the death photo that they took when that outlaw was killed. But rubes story is crazy. But at one our family reunions one my fam members made a booklet about his adventures and how they got tangled and got in few tight spots with the James gang and also Aaron burr who was caught hiding out in the dismal canyons in Northwest Alabama with rube burrow. But I’ve always wanted to see a video like this so I really appreciate your hard work and your due diligence sir. Congratulations on a very interesting and informative video thanks again. Peace ✌🏼
@ around 17:07 i shot my only buck @ seventeen...........most of the men of that hunting club were farmers or tradesmen and did skin many a deer quick & efficient like with their bone handled, high quality, well sharpened, jack knife and musckrats well worn "case" brand knives....... that was around 1968, way different time ..... way different place......................
I fully appreciate and enjoy your sense of humor sir! 😂😂 I have loved reading since I learned how to do it- but oddly- absolutely dislike audiobooks. I cannot keep my mind busy enough to pay attention. Idk if that makes sense- but for some reason, I can listen to you tell a story all day. Thanks for the hard work it must take for all of the content you produce. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
The yellow fever commentary...*chef's kiss
Man u told story of my. Life! Bad ass video dude
Glad you liked it
My middle name is Vernon. Your description hits close to home.
He was from Alabama, everything was an upgrade, lmao 🤣 so much truth
Brother!!!!!😂😂 You said fkn sumeri sword. Classic 😂
Josh, you can't help it. But we love it!
Glad you enjoy it!
Just subscribed in the last week.
Been enjoying the content and the bar room/ camp fire/ matter of fact commentary.
Sometimes it's the way that you deliver the story.
Sometimes it's the (but that's another story) side comments.
Yippee Kiyaee!
Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺👍😎
😂 the yellow fever tangent 😂😂😂
Your humor and voice sound just like
( Lamont at large on YT) …I think he’s been pretty successful with it. Good luck channel bro 👍
Another great vid. Another dude I never heard about. Can't wait for the next one.
@45 minutes in and you're describing my life perfectly! Haven't had any time off in fourteen years, getting twenty weekends off a year, while being on call, 24/7
"Yellow Fever..."
... Yeah, baby, YEAH!
🤣
Vernon, California is an industrialized city in Los Angeles, almost no residents, shifty history and city council. Lots of factories, casinos, manufacturing and rendering plants. I worked in a dismal, freezing pickle packing plant right next to a huge slaughter house. It's like they built a nightmare and zoned it.
Very inspiring!
Thank you for all your hard work
Thanks for listening!
Thanks for another great one 👍
Your F$&@“! Hilarious .. And starting @ 41:40 is all truth from somebody it sounds like that has been there …I can definitely relate … Great Work Thank you
Another outstanding, informative, entertaining show. Delivered in the captivating voice reminiscent of a young Ricardo Montalbán.
Hey man think I said this b4( I have CMS bad) I’m say it agin- U do cool wrk. I dig it. Look 4wrd 2 it. Keep up good wrk if u can👍👍😎
I knew the panhandle of Florida would be involved as soon as I heard Alabamy 😂 I always wonder what Wild West outlaws made their way into Florida. Been here my whole life. Also great speech at the end man couldn’t agree more
John Wesley Hardin was there
Keep up the great work!!!
Vernon is definitely a country town, though it seems to be getting city problems. The description of a guy named Vernon fits a lot of guys around here except for the hunting in sweat pants. As I type this I'm in Millport, just south of Vernon and there's a camo chevy squarebody behind me across the road, and there's bound to be a guy squirrel hunting. It's mostly quite simple living on the broader scene, with your "average" crap in individuals lives that not everyone knows about until it boils over
Back then the .38-40 is a 38 cal ball, with 40 grains of Black powder
Love your channel boss!!!! Born and raised in Texas and love the old west history!!! Abandoning kids in Oklahoma, not funny. I thought you were being serious and almost turned it off.
Thank you, Man!
Sometimes when I am alone I like to take off all my clothes put on my best cowboy boots and hat just to watch these videos
Aka Danny mcbride?
Is anyone hear to learn about their relative? I had long heard that my people are related to Rube, but my uncle confirmed it with DNA. Our family was so embarrassed we changed our last name to Burr.
Ok OUTLWAS shut the F-ing Jukebox off and pause the Outlaw Saloon CZcams video. Uncle Josh The silver tonged Texas devil has another story. So grab your beer, whiskey, favorite dog and barstool and gather around. like always its going to be a good one. love what you do keep up the great work.
Awesome video!
Still turning out quality vids!
Nice thanks.
Ya need a good metal Detector to find buried Treasure on Rube old land in Texas U.S.A. !!
LET ER' BUCK! 🐴
Love the rant
An oh yea.... dug the Rube Burrows😎
Wow Interesting information
Great video!
Thanks!
Josh, I don’t like most people (not because I don’t want to, but most just won’t let you) in general; never have, even as a kid and I still feel the same at 53. I was brought up old fashioned and don’t understand the whole conformist mentality and “fitting in”.
However, I think you and I would get along just fine. Your sense of humor and what you said in the last part of this, pretty much describes what I lived through until two years ago-I get it and lived it.
I understand
I'm same except 63 and same with people ruin it , Josh is a good find
YOLO...end quote...DEAD...LOLOLOL
Josh... You seem so cool I wish I could play poker with you. Not about the money 💰... Just crap talking fellowship of it all! 🤠
