Yes lol🙃
Lol it was so relatable
Such a good teacher!!! Please never stop

Use to go skating a lot as a kid and never knew how to turn the corners without looking like a zombie LOL Very informative video! Thank you!
I just ordered my skates and they come Wednesday I hope I can learn how to do it 😬
@@Black.Girl_Melanin519 you got it! Enjoy your skates!
OMG, same. I could never do crossovers. They always scared me, and still do. But, I just got back into skating because of my kids, and I'm determined to at least feel comfortable on my skates, and I'll get this down finally. 😉
I remember the first time I did one correctly, and how it felt when I pulled it off. I also remember the faceplant when I did one wrong. Doctor actually removed bits of the rink coating from my lip when he put in the stitches. Ahh, memories.
Ok now I’m scared to try ☹️

Skating is calling out to you!!!!
This makes me realize how much I miss skating!! I never learned backwards skating ☹️ but now I want to try again! Rink used to be my second home as a teen!
Okay
One thing I found really helped me make my crossovers feel more natural once I was able to just step one foot over the other was to focus less on the leg crossing over and instead think about pushing the other leg underneath me. So like if my right foot is crossing over and hovering in the air, instead of stepping forward onto it, I push my left foot more underneath me so that I naturally want to place my weight on the waiting right foot. Hope this helps anyone else learning!
You’re the most talented women I’ve ever saw. I’m a 13 year old getting into skating and already know how to skate backwards because of you! Thank you and keep up the good work! ❤️❤️

No … they roll with YOU!
You are a very good teacher. Best I've seen on CZcams for very detailed information.
Thank you so much!
I started roller derby last year and have yet to master crossovers (still a Freshie). Thank you for making this video. It's helped me understand a lot better.
Quarantine made me buy rollerskates, their coming in 3 days I'm excited,I watched this video just to learn fast.
This channel is seriously lacking in subscribers, and it deserves so many more! I absolutely love the teaching style and I don't even skate! 😆

Will u do backwards crossovers?
Will u do braiding forwards and backwards?

Excellent suggestions! I have them all on the list. Xavier and I are trying to figure out how to best film this stuff so you guys can see it all.
@@Dirtydeborahharry If you have Skate Mates (or could rig one up) and a tripod with bendable legs, you could attach the camera to one of those and have him wheel it around while filming the "whole rink" but still being able to do the close-ups to focus on you and the movement. I got my tripod on Amazon for only around $15! The legs are kind of short on mine, but it works. Not the most expensive thing, yet it has saved me from a lot of - what would have been - shaky videos. Just a suggestion. :)

I love how you teach skating! I just started skating a few weeks ago at age 31 and watched some how to videos but they didn’t really make sense to me and then I found your videos and finally understood that I don’t only skate with my feet. Head, shoulder, hip, leg was the best advice ever!
I'm 56 and haven't had skates on in 40 years. Bought a pair 3 years ago and put them on yesterday for the first time. Went to skate lessons at my local rink and fell twice. Did ok though, considering but looked on CZcams and found you. Brilliant instructions and fun lady to learn from. I'm gonna be skating like a champ in no time I'm sure. Thanks Debbie. I'll keep practicing.
52 here and just started skating again since the 80s. I never knew any cool moves back then but working on them now😁
How is your progress today in 2022!
Can we just appreciate that entrance though? Cause damn, that was soooo smooth!

I was about to buy rollers about month ago and I was pretty sad because I thought roller skates are much prettier, but I also thought driving on them looks really bad and messy! When I saw your videos in my recommedations I had no hesitations, Im getting rollerskates! I can't wait for them!
Your explanations are top knotch girl! I’m so excited to practice these moves
BEST TEACHER!! Much love, from Vancouver BC. Thank you so much for this, Deb 🥰
I did my first perfectly executed crossover today! Watching your videos have helped me immensely! I’ve been skating with inline skates for years but it’s like I never knew how to properly skate because I never took the time to learn the mechanics and techniques. I got my first pair of quads in May and have watched your videos to get the technique down. Thank you so much! I hope to one day meet you and skate at your rink. ❤️
Great job! Yeah! How exciting!
Your teaching style is EXACTLY what I need. Love your videos
I love me some Dirty Deb!! Thanks for doing this video-I love your personality and teaching style! Was at the rink last night practicing my crossovers & feeling way less shaky💖
Cool! What rink?

Gosh! I love this lady I’ve learned so much from her.
I’ve always rollerblader and started trying roller skating and it’s very easy and fuck thank to these darn tutorials! 👌🏼
Rollerbladers have skills! glad you like the videos :)
love your videos, they're so helpful and I find the way you explain and demonstrate things so easy to follow! I went to my first adult rollerskating class last week and the instructor complimented my form for a beginner (I only started three weeks ago) and it's entirely due to your tutorials so thank you 💖
oh I am so happy to read that you are going to class! Keep it up!
You are the best!!! Thank you for including how to balance in one of your videos!!! So happy you heard me! I’m making so much progress doing it your way. Those who can do AND teach are masters. I made that one up😉
Saved this to practice turning and cross overs. I ended up on your channel a month ago researching how to skate literally five minutes before a roller skate party . I now go to my local roller rink weekly, and practice so thank you deb ! I skate to have some me time and fill my cup back up .
Obsessed with your tutorials 😍 💓 You're amazing!!!!!

Where were you in 1987 when I was "walking" along the rail at the skating rink? Lol, I was so mad at myself but I got better quickly and used to be really good. I'm trying to get more into it because I miss skating and need the exercise, thanks SO MUCH for the tips! The "your butt is too high" advice was awesome, I think I'm more self conscious now and less instinctive about my center of gravity.
In 1987 I was a sad skater lamenting the rise of the roller blade and wondering why the hell everyone seemed to be skating on them! LOL! Anyway... so happy you are back and ready to roll. Basically you have a new body that is working with the old brain. The old brain is giving directions to the new body as if it were the old body :) Make sense? Now it is time to retrain yourself and become a new skater who will vow to never stop rolling :) Let's get rolling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I visited the rink on Saturday and I had a lot of fun learning to skate with my friend! We’re gonna skate on a regular basis now :)
Yeah :) When were you there? I was literally there all day until 6:30 p.m.
Dirty School of Skate oh man! We went from 6:00-8:30 so we probably missed you!
@@hayleerodriguez2711 yep! Damn. See ya next time.
This is how it starts! LOL I'm in Ohio, though...but 3 of my girls and I go every Saturday at the very least (though it's not surprising to see us out there 3 or 4 times a week). They've started inviting friends - some who know how to skate, some who've only been on skates a handful of times, and some who've never been on ANY type of skate in their life. We've spent many sessions helping those less steady.
I started posting on Facebook when I was going. Our little group used to take up a small booth (4 people per booth, just me and my girls) - now, with the girls' friends AND mine coming - we need at least 2 tables (6 per table)...if not 3! LOL An old friend came with me...all of twice, remembered how much she loved it and promptly ordered her own skates...a friend of hers started coming....and my "middle" child's boyfriend likes to come, so this past Saturday, he convinced his mom to come (old speed skater from back in the 80's, like me), now she's already looking into skates for BOTH of them. One weekend, we had around 22 people show up! It's addicting. :)
I wanna learn how to do the backwards skating and the cross over because that's basics, but so scared of falling. I can skate but beginners skate. I already have a bad back,so that's why I never went for the training class. Wish I was in California, but I'm in Ga. Great teaching though.
Basic backwards skating is marching on your heals
I DID IT!!!!!! 🎉 I went to the rink last night and when I was headed to the turn I had just watched this video earlier earlier in the day and all I really could remember is where your feet go your eyes go so I turned my head to the left over my shoulder and went for it. so happy. Also learned how to skate on one foot and balance a little too.
This video was recommended to me and I'm glad it was. Last Saturday I attempted to do crossovers after seeing people at the rink doing so with ease. I tried three times. The first time I didn't get it and was just wobbly, the second time I fell, and the third time I did it but was very close to falling. Tuesday of this week, this video was recommended to me. Today, I went to the rink and followed the suggestions of this video and I got it immediately. In fact, on my third attempt I felt it click and how comfortable you're supposed to feel while doing a crossover. Thank you for your clear instruction and breaking everything down.
Omg I saw you yesterday!! I went skating with my family and saw you skating in the center but I was too nervous to say hi 👋

Thanks girl, I just started skating again in a very old rink. I was able to get the crossovers so easy when I was 15, now I'm 50 and learning again and having so much fun. Your videos are so practical and informative!!

Do you have an Instagram? These videos are wonderful. What I would like to see, I cannot seem to get into plier second position turned out on Rollerskates/blades, then turn. I would like to see a tutorial on how to do that.
I do have an IG. DirtyDeborahHarry. I have that tutorial on the list. Thank you for the suggestion.
Yes I struggle with this so much
OMG, I love your style of teaching.
Very helpful! After 60+ years of skating (and pins and screws in the back), I have forgotten how to do the crossovers. I speed skate every week. This will help! Now I got to find the follow-up video you recommended!
Do you have any tips on strengthening legs at home?
Squats. A lot of roller skating is squatting. Also you need a good core muscle exercise. Planks?
I like Kristal Burns' suggestions.

Does this work with roller blades or just skates
Stay tuned to my channel. I am making a video with my blader friend (who is AMAZING) and we are going to talk about this very subject.
I think it's mostly the same except you don't have trucks to lean into. I haven't skated quads in years though. Inlines feel more clunky to me. She makes this shit look simple though.
Ur videos are genuinely so helpful

They said they don't reccomend me taking the class because of my back.

Thank you Deb!! Started skating last Nov, 2023 after being off of skates for about 50 years. It was rough going. Your lessons on how to stand and balancing on one leg with and without skates I didn't think of. And I used to be in skate dance competition back in the 1950's. Thank you so much for your help. Oh, by the way, I just turned 83. The reason I'm rickety on my skates is because my right knee is minus some cartilage. I favored it for so many years not realizing my legs were getting weak. I didn't realize how weak til I tried to skate for the first in 50 years and I fell a couple of times that took 6 weeks to heal. But, I decided not to give up. You helped me realize I needed some learning tools. Thank you for showing me what to do.
Don
Send me a video!!!!
I Will Try to do that. I would have to have a friend walk ahead and also behind to show you how I skate. Using My cell phone on video, of course.

all the little technical points help me soooo much, because I repeat those little techniques in my head while skating.
"left outside, right inside....left outside, right inside....left outside, right inside....left outside, right inside...."
Oh I am so glad you like that ... sometimes I wonder whether people appreciate all the details :)
This is awesome. I was never great at skating but always loved the idea. Very informative
Really love your videos. Startet skating a few months ago at the age of 46 and it often feels very scary. But I found a society of artistic roller skaters in my hometown. Although I learn much slower then all the kids I really enjoy it and your videos often help me for not asking to dumb questions ;-). Still working on my balance. But with your help I am sure, that I will improve soon! Thank you so much!
Thank You Dirty Deb !!! Your videos are the best. You rock !!! 😁
You are the best coach ever! I’m watching this during the coronavirus, am an older skater (figures and dance) that had lost her passion, and you have given it back to me. Although I’ve had good coaches, I’ve never had any break down skills like you do. Thank you for all you do.
That is awesome! I was a freestyle and figure skater along with being a fulltime rink rat. As former "real" skaters, we never lose the passion and joy. Please continue forward on this journey and use the knowledge you have and teach others :)
You are hands down the best skate lessons on youtube. Thanks. 💃💃
Wow, thanks!
I'm going to start trying these. I love that you use a lot of repetition with what to do. It helps so much because when I go to do a skill, I can hear your voice telling me what to do. I've been working on a transition and it wasn't so smooth, then I heard in my head, "head turns shoulder, shoulder turns hip, hip turns feet."..
Then I transitioned!!! I am not 100% on them, but they were so much smoother when I heard you in my head saying that!
So I think I'll be able to start working on these!!
I've tried other videos, out of curiosity, and you are the queen of teaching... you definitely have a gift!
Ah this has been the most helpful crossover tutorial I have found yet!!!!
