This was extremely helpful for a 16-year-old with no idea what she could do with her random reading and understanding English grammar skillset. Thank you.

This is definitely useful. I want to be an editor, but it sometimes it seems like to be in the publishing industry you have to live in New York City where the Big Five are, and I live two thousand miles away from there.
This is one of the reasons freelance appeals to me as potentially the best option for helping writers send their books into the world.

Thank you for this. I recognized a lot of my experiences in yours, so that's refreshing.
I'm trying to figure out how to start a freelancing editing service for manuscripts, but have no clue where to start. Neither CZcams nor Google have provided me with the info I'm seeking. Your video is the best advice I've gotten so far.

Hi hi hi! This video was so extremely helpful and really made me feel better about my dream of being an editor. That said, do you think that the publishing industry is doing well? Do you think that there is a good amount of jobs available? Also, if you're comfortable discussing it, does being an editor pay well for the most part or is it a low-paying job?

Thank you so so much for this video! It was so helpful. Im a junior in college wanting to become an editor and get related internships. How did you go about finding so many internships to apply to??

Hi, Nicole! I was wondering what your major was and how it relates to or nurtured your current job. I'm an aspiring editor and coming from an art history background it's a bit tougher to get a foot in the door. Hugs from Argentina :)

Hello! That's a great question that I totally should have mentioned in the video haha. I was an English and Philosophy double-major. Philosophy was less influential, but having a background in the subject matter allows me to work on more philosophically-minded texts, of which I've worked on quite a few. I also took a really instrumental class on Logic, which I think has helped with some of the more mathematical copyediting topics. As for English, while none of my classes ever really emphasized grammar, constantly reading books and writing essays just helped to develop my language skills generally. Ultimately, I don't think it was the academic nature of either of my majors that helped me become an editor; it was more the act of reading a lot of books and paying careful attention to the language aspect of literature along with the narrative aspect.

2:50 Ha i feel we're too similar, kinda, i was also a grammer n@zi (even though i had overall trash language skills) and now im very interested in math and chem but i think i might be too old to be competent in those areas since i know nothing and have many interests

hey nicole! i’m currently in college right now and majoring in professional writing. im an aspiring book editor :) although, my program is called “Professional Writing for New Media” and it covers editing, screenwriting, copy writing, etc. but i’m afraid my degree won’t help me get a job in editing because of the name. it probably sounds silly lol but what do you think?

hi aurora! so, in my opinion, i really don't think that should pose too much of a problem for you! there's really no major (that i'm aware of) whose main focus is editing; there are creative writing degrees, English degrees, journalism degrees, communications degrees, but no explicitly EDITING degrees. the truth about being an editor is you learn so much from writing and reading, so the fact that you'll have a background in writing (and have taken classes in editing) is actually something that should really help, instead of hurt. on a resume, you will be able to explain what your degree covered, which is where you can say that you have editorial experience in your classes, so you should really be golden! i didn't take a single class in college that was editing-focused (it was all just about reading/analyzing literature) and that wasn't a hindrance for me, so you've already got a leg up on any of the people who have only studied literature or writing!
