My God man.... Had to officially tap out of this video after hearing that "The Cursed" was atop nearly 16 other villains. Your explanations of why those other villains under The Cursed were clearly pointing to the fact that they were better than him in any way, yet he's higher than those 16 other...? Confounding to me and stamps a massive red INVALID print over this whole video lol. It's all subjective and I'm glad you had fun with this. Keep it up. .. The Cursed..a secondary non speaking "villain" better than 16 others??? I just can't even...

I didn’t really see Namor as a villain even though he is in this movie. He was just someone who was forced to make the first move because he feared the result if he didn’t decide to act quick. And you could tell the Wakandans know there is some truth to his reasoning. It’s just that as with all good villains, the excess of good intentions leads to extremes. But overall, he’s a very good character and I hope to see him in a more… positive light.

the recent "villains" of phase 4 didn't really feel like villains to me? I mean they committed evil acts but they felt valid LOL these guys had understandable reasons, like specifically Gorr, Wenwu, and Namor. Also Wanda. And Ikaris as well. I wonder if it was the intention to give the antagonists in phase 4 this kinda similar theme for their motives. Gorr, Wenwu, and Wanda are powered by grief, and for Namor and Ikaris I think it's their need to protect their own people at all cost and do what they think is right as if it's the only way. It's also interesting how they all in the end stopped fighting and gave in/let go.
@@cinnarenaroll1292 I think they are the better villains because it allows for the audience to empathize more with them even though whatever they are doing is wrong. The traditional villains are always "i just want to fuck everything up because I'm bad and I'm because of no reason". No they are more complex and I appreciate that. Maybe its better to label them as antagonists, rather than "villains".
I didn't see Namor as a villain at all as well. He's definitely an antagonist. But what separates him from other villains is that he isn't necessarily malicious or evil. You get where he comes from and why he does what he does and you can tell he genuinely loves his people.
his point of view is understandable, but if you are ready to kill innocent people: you are the villain.
I appreciate how Coy explains *all* of his thoughts and feelings about these characters, and it's interesting to hear about the comic book versions, but I definitely think the acc rankings should *only* be based on the film adaptations, rather than what the characters "should" be from the comics.
Then a comic fan can't make the list, because we are tainted by what we know and what we expect. The commission reboot characters multiple times and overtime, absolutely nailed the characters. So we expect the best from out favourite characters. When they don't deliver it just makes us go meh
I thought the movie was phenomenal and I loved Namor. Can’t wait to see it again tonight.

We may all have our favorites, but it’s hard to argue that Thanos deserves to be Number 1. His portrayal in Infinity War is so good that he realistically could rival Darth Vader in terms of big screen baddies

Namor is my favorite "villian" by far... he's so badass
When it comes to Wanda and then missing a few steps leading into MoM I think those missing steps are just her reading the darkhold. While It definitely would’ve been nice to see some progression into becoming the villain. It was just her reading the darkhold for 2 years as it slowly corrupts her. I’m not sure how interesting that would be on screen. Could be a waste of time. I definitely liked her being bad right off the bat. The end credits in WV had me already knowing she was gonna be bad and that’s all I needed. In regards to her powers I totally agree. It was nice to see her pop off more but energy bolts and shit are so overused for her. She has basically endless amount of abilities at her disposal and we hardly get to scratch the surface on what she can do. I hope we see her do some more reality warping, probability manipulation and matter manipulation among other things very soon! Hopefully we get to see a spectacle come Kang dynasty and secret wars.

I can't believe there have been 63 villains in the MCU and I've watched all the movies and shows.
He didn't even mention all of them, there are tons more, I would've liked to see Grandmaster on this list, just simply because Jeff Goldblum.
I remember going into Winter Soldier being so thoroughly convinced that Robert Redford was who they got to replace Hugo Weaving as Red Skull, of course that wasn't the case but I still love what he did as Alexander Pierce.
Great list Coy. Wise as always. I haven't read many comic books, so it is always cool to hear you compare some of the portrayals on screen to their portrayals in comic books.

Some of my favourite mcu villains are Hela, Scarlet Witch, Gorr, Shang chi Mandarin, Ronan, Green goblin, Loki and Mysterio and I feel like I have to mention Namor too

I noticed that all three spiderman movie main villain worked.. Vulture, Mysterio and Goblin worked so well and totally shaped peter parker as spiderman.
If Mysterio and Vulture weren't a Stark villains. That would make them ranked higher in the list because they were so complex in my opinion and knew how to manipulate Spiderman.

I gotta commend you, Coy. I did a top 5 MCU villains for a podcast when Shang-Chi came out and it is so hard! I’m so happy Ghost is so high up on your list, because I see far too many people miss how compelling she is. So stoked to have her back in Thunderbolts. And while I understand why people put Thanos at #1, no one’s outdoing Killmonger to me. He’s still the best.

Just waiting on a MCU villains list that includes the villains from the Marvel TV Side. Gravitron, Madame Gao, Bushmaster, Killgrave, Kingpin,etc. They deserve love too!

I love Namor as i love Thanos, both are at certain level different than their comic counterpart, but at the core we still see them as the character we like and love. I get why Coy put namor abit below than where i would put him, Thanos comic wont work in cinema, the adjustment was necessary.
Comic Namor is realistic enough to adapt, but i love cinema Namor still. Idk if i would love if he's too close to his comic counterpart. If they just tune his arrogance just a hint, just a little bit, i think i'd love him more

With the introduction of Wenwu (who in my opinion is easily top 3 for best MCU villains so far) I can actually appreciate Trevor Slattery in that film a lot more.
Back when I first saw Iron Man 3 it PISSSED me off to my very core. That Iron Man’s biggest nemesis was just a drugged up British actor.
But I will say that looking back I was too harsh and I can appreciate that scene more.

Y’all have to come to grips that sometimes the side villain is just supposed to be the side villain. Some times there’s just goons that get beat up. Lol. Not every single character has to have a super fleshed out, arc. Some are villains, some are goons, some are just there to be a nuisance or road block

Really interesting list. I have not thought about some of the villains the way you described them. I totally agree with 1 and 2. Definitely my favorites and ones who had a big impact on the MCU world and ones that I can relate to.
I just had to jump in as soon as I saw you talk about Kingpin - I couldn't agree more! Man, oh man, was he a disappointment in Hawkeye... but _ONLY_ because we know what a phenomenal Kingpin Marvel could have offered us. Kingpin was just so truly terrifyingly awesome in Daredevil; I hope they can get back to that.
Does it matter if he does get backt to that? He insultingly ranked kingpin on that place,ignoring 3 seasons of this character for that one appearance that apparently undoes all of Vincent d'onofrio effort of portraying the character maybe d'onofrio should just quit playing the character since all people do is being unappreciated
I totally get why Hawkeye’s Kingpin is in the bottom 5 here, BUT because Vincent is so good in the role in the Netflix series, I am still so excited to see more of him moving forward!

How about the Grandmaster(Jeff Goldblum) from "Thor Ragnarok?" Mordo(Chiwitel Ejiofor) and Sinister Strange(Bennedict Cumberbatch) from "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?" And, although I know he's not really a villain, but more an antagonist, how about J Jonah Jamison(JK Simmons) in "Spider-Man No Way Home?"
J.Jonah Jameson was the coolest of them all. He destroyed Peter's reputation Infront of the world and when Aunt May was dieing he sent the cops to kill him.

I think I’m mostly on the same page with Coy’s list with the exception of a handful of choices. The MCU version of Kingpin didn’t bother me as much as it did most people so he would definitely be ranked higher on my list and Zemo would be much lower. I loved what we got in Civil War but the portrayal in Falcon and Winter Soldier was a huge disappointment for me, Zemo felt significantly different to me and came off more goofy and lost some of that weight/power he had before. Diminished his character in my opinion and would be ranked much lower for me. And Trevor Slattery… Coy mentioned that some people don’t like Iron Man 3 or his character and yeah, that’s me 🙋🏼♂️. Honestly he wouldn’t even make my list at all. 😂

When I was a teenager, my mother got in deep with some crazy new age people. Arthur Harrow hit me like a punch to the gut because I KNEW HIM. There were several people who were a lot like him drifting around my life for a couple of years who I'd always felt there was something wrong about them, but seeing what I'd felt realized in Harrow, a lot of things from my life became more clear to me. In every scene he was in, Harrow filled me with a sense of existential dread.
As a South African, I have to say that Andy Serkis' South African accent is the best I have heard from a non South African. He absolutely nailed it

I think that Killmongers cameo in BP2 significantly improved his character who was already a top 10 arguably top 5 villain because he is still able to have this presence for Shuri in the future

I watched Wakanda Forever last night, and spoilers just in case
Namor was so engaging and likable, I found myself rooting for him over Shuri. I actually needed the flashback of the flood and the innocents being drowned before I remembered he was the bad guy lol
I felt the same way. Wakanda Forever felt like a movie where it was two very misguided good guys doing things that good guys should not be doing, and between the two very misguided good guys, I wound up rooting for Namor. I can't wait to see more of him.
@@purplecat4977 yeah, Namors intentions, at the time, seemed pretty noble. He was just protecting his people. While Shuri was all vengeance.

I have to say, my favorite villain so far was Green Goblin. Dude was pure evil in No Way Home and it was great to see Willem Dafoe bring that enthusiasm back with that character.
So namor was bad because he wasn't similar to comics and you can't imagine him with Sue? W T F Coy?!
