My uncle was an acquaintance of Rance Howard, Ron's father. Rance came to my uncle's funeral and gave an energetic and powerful remembrance of my uncle. He remained afterward at the simple reception and exuded paternal authority and integrity. He seemed to be the sort of man that every child would want as a father, and I could see why Ron valued his father so much.
Who was your Father? I have a story with Rance also.
are you in duncan
@@debbiecooper1677 No
One of my favorite Ron Howard stories is that he was out earning his father when he was a child but the family still lived exactly how the father could provide. It is not a coincidence that Ron Howard turned out to be such an amazing human. Bravo to Ron Howard’s parents!
When my daughter was 9, she auditioned for Ron. I got to meet him and he was so kind and sweet to her…and me.
Ron’s films are my favorite films, there is no blood and gore, no steamy sex scenes just pure tasteful film making
Amen!! ❤
Never seen Ron's movie "Rush" did you? Steamy sex. What about "The Ransom" and "The Missing" with lots of bloody, gory violence?
Down to earth parents, well-adjusted kids. That is a goal every parent should seek. 💜😊
Well said.

Thank you Ron Howard for marrying Cheryl and creating a family that is grounded in reality. You have given the world great gifts through Imagine. Your principled example of leadership has provided a guiding light for artists worldwide. Beautiful families reflect love and inspiration. Keep going!☮️
Having good parents that understand parenting makes the difference in life for anyone
Hats off to Cheryl. I get the feeling she is the driving force of that family ❤
smart move to leave L.A.
@Graham Bensinger the similarity between Ron's Mother and his Wife Cheryl as thee Rock if the family.

She's fantastic, and Cheryl and Ron seem like great parents
One thing about directors like Ron Howard and Steven Spielberg is their attention to detail. Even if the subject matter of the film isn't all that great, the quality of the film's production is flawless and makes it worth watching.
I'm a single dad of 4, my children are my blessing. Life is expensive and hard but i Can't imagine my life without them. Thank you God.
You rock! And you are the Rock for your children. A strong and devoted father is priceless… priceless. High praise and admiration for you. And many blessings for your family.

My boss used to deliver horse feed and supplies (hay, wood shavings etc) to Ron in Greenwich, CT. and said Ron had the Apollo 13 capsule they used in the movie, in his barn.
Now THAT'S a good story!
Los Angeles is a very big place. They lived in a very elite, mini-culture in LA. It's very different for people living in other parts of LA.
You have to be one of the greatest interviewers. So natural. Good job.
I have a long way to go, but really appreciate the kind words!
Westchester County and Greenwich, Connecticut where the Ron Howard children grew up are communities where extremely wealthy people live. It's different because the wealth is from old money and not necessarily the entertainment industry, but business, industry and politics. It's not where you raise a child, it's how you raise them.
I’ve lived in both places. They are nothing alike. The east coast has wealthy people from all areas of life. I knew may of them and you’d never know they’re rich. That actually have manners
@@debbylou5729 the "East Coast" and those two specific locations are apples and oranges. Your argument is like saying people who buy homes in Beverly Hills don't know they are above a vast reserve of oil and the rights to it--or not--are outlined in the real estate ownership documents.
@@MeMeDaVinci no, that’s your interpretation, based on your feelings, without any basis regarding what I said.
Bryce has certainly learned a lot from her parents. She will be every bit as successful as her famous Dad.
That's a tall order.
@@WilliamShea-mj1ox haha. I agree!
Very few people in the business are going to be as successful as Ron Howard even if they are very successful.
and more importantly just as grounded as her mom wanted her to be. one of the best gifts you can give your child is common sense, and a good heart.
What a GREAT interview. Ron's daughter is remarkable, and very impressive. Wow. Great parenting!!!!!!
This is how you should raise a family. Love and respect to Mr & Mrs Howard, their reputation and fruit of their labor is being shown.
A close friend of mine was a successful casting director working on a movie remake of "The Saint" back in 1994. After a lunch meeting in Moscow, she was killed by a hit-and-run driver after stepping off the curb onto the street. In January 1995, I attended a memorial service for her at Paramount Studios which was well attended by some very familiar faces. What struck my, though, was the realization that, even in that somber setting, movie industry people were networking with each other, looking for that connection, that next job. I assume its only worse in current days, but, still, the ever-present "hustle" is a real turn off in LA.
I’m so sorry about the loss of your friend. That is heartbreaking.
These folks don’t have steady work, it’s really gig stuff. Sorry that tragedy happened and people looked to each other to connect in that way. I think it’s an automatic way of surviving especially the off air talent.
My condolences for that sudden loss of a close friend.
Their 'idol' Matthew 16:26
“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
Years ago I worked at a froyo shop in santa monica and one time ron Howard came in. The way he was polite and made small talk was very "not LA." he seemed different than anyone else there. More normal 😂
Not surprised. He always struck me as a solid person. And living in the world of entertainment, I can see how they'd want a door between their work world and real life.
My cousin raised in North Hollywood in the 50's -60"s finally ended up in northern Minnesota. Could not be happier!
Omg! First 8 secs and BDH says someone gave her a script to take home to her dad when she was in preschool. Well, I can attest to this being a thing. When we lived full time in LA, parents were constantly networking on the preschool playground (scripts, investing in projects, asking to audition, etc). I couldn't bring my kids up in that (even though both my husband and I worked in the industry) so we "cashed" in and left to go back to my Midwestern hometown. Fun twist -- my oldest 2 kids are college-aged now, both cinema students, one is headed into getting an MFA in ... ... yes, screenwriting. ;-)
Yep! When, it's in your blood it is hard to get away from! 😅
My kids have been keeping their room clean since they were 4 and 5 years old. They learned to seperate their laundry by color at 3. They pick weeds or deadhead roses in the yard 3 days a week for 15 minutes. They have a chore that takes 1 hour or less 5 days a week. Whatever they choose not to finish has to be done on the weekend. They study 4 days a week, 2 with each other and 2 with us. They are required to read 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week, but my daughter is struggling with reading so she reads for an extra hour on the weekend days. They earn a commission at 1$/chore and they tithe. Being a parent is work and must don't want to put in the work.
Sensible mom and dad. I bet they have no regrets, especially now.
This beautiful amazing woman is blowing my mind. What a blessed life she has, and what a huge blessing she is to this world. I LOVE Ron Howard, and I see his beautiful influence he and Cheryl had on Bryce’s life. Thank you All.
No surprise the Ron and Cheryl raised smart caring human beings!
This was such a nice piece to watch. I like what Bryce Howard did with her episodes of Mandalorian. It's also really good to know she's good with those who work for and with her.
clearly good people, thankyou to one of the best grounded people ever!
Wonderful interview. ❤ Beautiful family 😊
What a great family ❤❤❤
"I fell asleep on my dad's lap at dinner with George Lucas and KUROSAWA"!?. Yes, definitely mind-blowing - that is one dinner table I would have loved to be at...
So much more respect than I already had for this family!
I’d like to see an in-depth interview with Cheryl Howard.
Bryce is a great actress
Bryce is GORGEOUS! ❤ my favorite 😍
I always wondered how old they were when they got to see their dad in the Music Man or Courtship of Eddie's Father....an what was it like seeing their dad at such a young cute age? I'm 67 an we grew up with home movies an love looking back an seeing it thru our children's eyes. Their dad is on the big screen. Great man with a great family!
Great interview...
I love this! I always had so much respect Ron and his work. I can't help but to also adore Bryce and her work as a director beyond her very solid acting work. It is great to see this grounded approach to family while also with dealing with the needs in the entertainment business. My hat is off to this family. Nepotism is certainly a thing, but it only goes so far. Actual talent and hard work are needed to move beyond the shadow of your parents' legacy. I look forward to more from both Ron & Bryce.
Bryce has the same hand gesture mannerisms as her dad when she talks. That is adorable and wholesome.
I remember Ron howard was a guest on one of the late night talk shows and talking about his kids being extras in his movie The Grinch only if they kept their grades up. Well one of them didn’t so did not get to participate in the movie. I wonder now if that was Cheryl’s influence. So happy they raised their kids the way they did
I think they lived in back country Greenwich, CT, and owned an estate in Conyers Farm. These are horse places, not dairy farms!
Imagine being around Kurosawa as a kid! Also, I love the episodes of the Mandalorian that Bryce directed!
The Howards are really wonderful people!
All these five dollar words to describe LA crack me up! It's a cesspool and he won't just say it.
Well, he still chooses to work within the industry. Would you really talk shit about business associates on video?
Yeah, and end up like a Twitter employee... talk shit about the boss or company and you get fired.
@@goeast12 The term LA is so encompassing, includes so many different areas.
Why would he 💩 talk about the place where he built his iconic career? You don’t bite the hand that feeds unless you want to end that career.
Bingo! LA, San Francisco, Portland, NYC, Baltimore, Seattle…. Homeless, Criminal, Crime infested shit hole cities.
I believe that I actually saw the entire family when I was do room service at a resort on the Oregon coast, Salishan Lodge back in the late 80s, it was the best resort in Oregon.
We all knew that Ron Howard and his entire family were staying at the Lodge for at least a week but not using their last name Howard, but of course they were very obvious to everyone an entire family of redheads, entirely, including the nanny that was with them.
Very pleasant people, kids behaved well, and I thought Mr. Howard was pretty normal, if I didn't know who they were you would not think they were a celebrity family..
Wasn't the biggest tipper but I also never got cheated by him m either. 😅
Nice interview but was surprised to hear Bryce say it was mind blowing and defined her as a person to be falling asleep in her Dad's lap while he was dining with George Lucas, that sentiment was sorta the reason Ron wanted to leave LA in the first place.
hmm...never thought of that. Great way in. I guess I'm moving to L.A. & becoming a pre-k teacher.
Very interesting, impressive parents.

Dumbass me realizing just now that Bryce Dallas Howard was Ron Howard's daughter.
I don't think you're that. 😂 There are plenty of people like me who've associated one person to another by the same last name - and then learning there is no relation at all.
I’m with you…..didn’t know…..
I never heard of her before.
I heard of her and saw her and never connected them, until this interview series.
As an aside I've noticed that a lot of the Brat Pack-adjacent teen actors who survived and are thriving today all went to public school in less "famous-people" parts of LA, examples being Wil Wheaton in Burbank and DiCaprio in then-not-yet-gentrified Los Feliz.
solid people
I still remember Leon on Andy Griffith show!
They moved to Mayberry.
Good call Ron and Cheryl. Today, you have many more reasons to confirm your choice.
Don’t understand that they only found nature on the East Coast? California is mostly nature. Lots of farms and land they could have bought. Sounds like his wife just wanted to move. Hollywood is such a tiny part of California. Lots of stars manage to lead pretty normal lives. But you never hear about that. The media likes drama.
I heard he and Tom Hanks bought up a lot of land 20 or 30 miles South of Newcastle Blanchard exit just south of OKC ok. In the middle of nowhere.
Dont know about what you said but Tom Hanks is no choir boy.
Incognito is the best way to live your life. Don’t let anyone know how you think or feel. It’s none of their business.
I've never lived in a big city. So I don't know what it's like and you know what I don't want to know. I've lived a wonderful life in rural America and I would never change it. Is there less opportunity, absolutely but money isn't everything. My brother in-law has a job in a major city but he also has a house in the county.
You aren’t missing much. I lived in NY, glad I left.
With today’s tech you can make opportunities anywhere. And less chance of getting stabbed at the deli.
Nice.
Great parenting grows great kids...

He’s quite embarrassed to be bald
@Jean Carroll hello there’s no restoration for that degree of baldness
@Paul Solon Full wigs for men. Burt Reynolds was bald, Libarace, bald. Ted Danson, William Shatner, the list is endless. Billy Zane is a perfect example. We don't even see the younger actors getting bald anymore. They're not cheap wigs, but they're worth it.

At 18 Bryce went to NYU, she wasn’t on her own
Did he invent TV? Invent the integrated chip? Cure cancer? Why is it that entertainers talk about themselves more than people who actually do things that matter?
Because interviewers come and ask them to talk about themselves. And because we clearly want to hear it, since we’re both tuning into this video….!
I find that, the Hollywood Industry, gave them their wealth! Once you have millions, you can move and live wherever you want! I can understand that Ron, has lived here all of his life. He's outgrown it! It is a shame that they can't go anywhere without scripts; being thrown at them. That's sad! I'd tell them to, "Have your agent call my agent" The World knows and loves Ron Howard! 🥰
Los Angeles, does have millions of other people who, live here, who aren't actors!
Bryce, is still in the Industry and will one day be moving back! She's an amazing actress. You just have to stay strong, in your family and friendship circle! No users or hanger-ons! Say, why you are really leaving! Taxes, are high but say that, "You are leaving for a more affordable place!" All roads do lead to Rome; I mean Hollywood, for Actors! N.Y., has "Broadway!"
One, should never bite the hand; that feeds them! Because, one day it will you bite back! 🎬 😁😎🎬
Once you have millions, you can move and live wherever you want! NOT TRUE. I don't have millions and moved half way across the country to a more respectful place where parents teach their kids some manners. Like thousands of other families did. I saw the cesspool forming back in the 70's in L.A. Good for Ron and his family.
I've no axe to grind : But this sound like an advertisement for "nepo-babies". But she obviously has talent, go in early with the at-home training, and has demonstrated solid results. I guess it comes down to whether she got her early breaks through/ because of who her dad was. But it's a people business, so it's kinda natural to go with what you know when there's so much money on the line.
That's any industry though.
@@robertwiles8106 Not necessarily. Some industries require qualifications to hold any sort of meaningful position. And employment laws at public companies can make it difficult to give jobs to relatives also. I dated the daughter of a big bank CEO. She also worked in the bank, but in a junior position that anyone with decent high school grades could have gotten. So no nepotism there. Also, I guess there is not so much "nepotism", but potential favouritism to friends (as opposed to relations) which is something else that can exist (and probably more related to Ms. Dallas Howard's position). I worked in a bank and the CFO had his friend from college's son come in for 3 working summer internships through his college years. The position did not exist before or since, and was never advertised. Clear favouritism, but nobody - including HR of this big public company - said or did anything about it.
That’s just how it works in every career. If your mom is a sitting Justice of Supreme Court in your State, chances are real good you can get into Law School at a prestigious university. If your dad is COO of any major business, it would be a given that you would get preferential treatment in hiring. It’s always been about who you are, to whom you are related, and who you know. That in no way means there is no opportunity for success if you don’t have any of those connections. People , like Ron Howard for example.
I think it certainly gets her foot in the door, but if she couldn’t then produce ($$), she’d be done.
Nepotism at its finest. Dinner with George Lucas, inside access to movie sets early on - it was a great childhood - gee, you think? I don’t believe his kids “had to take care of themselves” at 18. I love Ron Howard but his kid riding on his coat tails I can do without. Why don’t the kids ever become doctors, lawyer, etc.
I pray for your salvation xo

They sheltered her from Hollywood. Not from acting.

i have always felt bad for people in the business that there are just so many people constantly trying to promote themselves to them and shove scripts in their faces. but on the other hand i also always wonder how many amazing scripts or great actors or directors there are out there that just never got an opportunity because they couldnt get anyone to see them or take a chance on them.
i wish he had the nerve, i wish A LOT more actors etc.. had the nerve to just flat out say i had to leave because Hollywood is a hotbed of absolute insane liberalism.
