Oh so we’re choosing between Jokic, who plays team ball, is unstoppable in the post, and won a championship, vs Melo, who lead his team to 6 first round exits, and a conference finals appearance, great.
Carmelo Anthony's retirement was talked about more than Jokic winning the WCF finals last year. What an absolute travesty. Melo never led his team to the finals and a championship, while Jokic won the title with the Denver Nuggets as the best player.
What impact? Forcing a franchise to trade you? Then Forcing another player to another team when he's off injury? Did nothing in the Knicks. His rep as a player is lower than the joker easily.
Maybe for ordinary people like us..but for a great nba player..all nbas, mvps, championships, etc are more important..you can only attain greatness when you have those accolades in your resume..
I'm 57 years old and I'm a lifelong nuggets fan to persuade him not to go to New York the Nuggets offered him a Max contract, which he turned down. We had just been to the Western Conference Championship but that wasn't enough for him. The Nuggets owe him nothing he's just a New York knick.
He only cares about himself. Once you have players who outshines him, he became salty and wants out. He probably should ask the Knicks where he wanted to be. Now, a player outshines him wearing "his number", just grow up. He chose to play like the way he does and win less😁😁
This jersey number problem is rooted in the old FIBA rule where players can only wear numbers from 4 to 15 for all 12 players on the roster. To make things even more frustrating, certain numbers were "reserved" for the respective roles. Number 4 and number 10 were typically reserved for playmakers, or guards, 12 and 15 for centers (Vlade Divac famously wore 12 in the Lakers because of this. I can't claim for sure, but i think he took 21 in Kings, because 12 was retired already) So, if you were to play basketball in Europe, or anywhere else outside of the North America, and you are a center, you can only have a choice of two jersey numbers. 12 or 15. Later in 2018, FIBA decided to change this rule and allow numbers from 1 to 99 as well as 0 and 00, but for many Europeans, numbers from 4 to 15 still have deep meaning and clearly indicate the position the player have in the team and that is why Jokic was wearing 15 through his younger career days as well. Even Team USA to this late date respects the old FIBA rule and all players that are competing at the Olympics and World Cup wore 4 to 15, which was true at the last World Cup as well. Honestly, I don't think Jokic gave two fux who wore number 15 before him. He is the center, therefore, he is 15.
Mentioning Divac, I remembered both Divac and Predrag Stojaković had their jerseys retired in Sacramento Kings (yes, Divac was 21, and Stojaković 16), and indicative, both of them played for others teams after their "godlen years" in Sancramento Kings (If I am not wrong, Divac ended carrier in Lakers, and Stojaković in Dallas), just like Carmello Anthony, but Sacramento didn't have an issue to retire their jerseys and doing so, to claim them for ethernity as Kings' legacy players. Nevertheless, I doubt both Serbian players knew at all for that tradition, and even if they knew, I doubt they even once think they might be honoured like that, being foreigners... Actually, both of them were caught by surprise with that honour, and there was even watery eyes on ceremony. I personally didn't fallow Carmello while he was playing in Denver, and I don't know how big his impact was on the Nuggets' game then, but attacking publicly, demanding, calling out, asking honour from club whose funs are actually booing you when ever they see you on their court... well, that is almost mental issue for psychiatry... As I understand, there is no rule book who deserves and who don't that honour, nowhere is written what stats avarage you must achieve or what record to put up to get it, it is practically solely franchize's decission, not based on stats and acomplishments, but by their (and funbaze) subjective asesment whome funs loves the most and who, by their subjective oppinion, left his everlasting trail on franchise. You could say Stojakovič got that being the one of best 3-shooters in NBA history, or by stats and records, but Vlade Divac got it solely on being lovable guy and great team mate, his stats were never record braking or otherwise impressive in era where Shackil O'Nill was model and measure for centers... So, I am actually sure Kroenke familly is listening to this missreable complaining of Carmello, and even if they might had some plans to honour his years in Nuggets, I am sure now there is -0% chance for that... I never seen or heard that some prize or honour could be given thanks to emotional or media blackmail and claiming, you work, you struggle, and some day someone will recognize your effort and rewards you, or not. First time I hear player himself proclaim he is worthy of that honour, delivier that honour to himslef as given right, and then calling out people that can give them that honour because of they didn't give it to him YET, and even accusing them they deliberately want to avoid that by giving his jersey to Jokić. Well, Ihave news for Carmello: if team didn't retire your jersey in a season after you retired from active playing, it is not happening. Maybe that is explanation why Carmello started with this now, it seems he was hoping and counting on that honour during season 2022/23, waiting patiently call from Denver, and now he is soar because he understood it is not happening...
@@user-it4yn9vz6c First of all, no, that USA team have numbers signed very different, yes AI is 4 and Marbury is 5, but also you get the power forward Boozer wearing 7 and small forward Richard Jefferson wearing 15, it's more likely that AI pick the closest to his 3. @@Kp-2 Privileged multi millionaire athlete cries because his “number” was given to a second rounder. How out of touch with reality does one need to be not to see how pathetic that is? Fragile and spoiled.
The only one who's at war is Melo. Guess he so much needs to be a center of attention that it hurts as the BBall world spins without him. Bye-bye, Melo, there's a reason for you being ringless and forgotten
Maybe he wanted to get something like this one (even though it won't happen) for his career because his draft rival (LeBron) achieved so much in his career.
Only reason Melo is complaining is because this was his best chance at having a number retired, but when he left the way he did, he already damaged his chances. Jokic coming and doing much more for the franchise with the same number sealed the deal.
Carmelo learned only late in life that player legacies are based on rings and not personal stats. He was capable of winning a championship but didn't have the mentality to do so. Late in his career he made a desperate attempt to come off the bench for the Lakers, something he laughed at earlier in his career, in the hope to make the necessary sacrifice to have his name talked about amongst the greats. It wasn't meant to be. Now that he is retired from the NBA what does he have to show for the over 1300 games he played? Championships? Finals Appearances? Conference championships? The two things he will be remembered for by many basketball fans are his time in Denver and NY. He failed to bring Denver their first championship in 8 years and return New York to championship status in the 7 years there. Jokic has surpassed everything Carmelo has done without being the scoring machine Melo was. In NY, Melo will be remembered for chasing away Jeremy Lin, one of the biggest fan favorites and fastest growing star in the NBA at the time. A full NY year with Jeremy Lin and Carmelo Anthony would have fans of all backgrounds rooting for the Knicks like they haven't in over a decade. But Melo's ego couldn't handle being in the shadow of an up and coming star. So looking back at it, all Melo had for his legacy was turning Denver into a playoff worthy team and that was it. And now that Jokic turned them into a championship team and will have his number retired, Melo will likely never have his number retired anywhere or be remembered for anything other than being a scoring machine without the killer instinct necessary to be talked about with the greats. It hurts but this is the problem when you pay athletes tens of millions of dollars up front without any guarantees from them whether they can or will produce results. They take the money and don't produce what you pay them for.

The most important thing here is that Joker has been wearing number 15 since he started playing basketball! In Europe, as in the USA, the roaster consists of 15 players, but in Europe - players who played in the Center positions are use to wear numbers 11-15 (now that's changed)... So Mr.Anthony voluntarily leaves the Nuggets, then #15 is worn by Anthony Randolph, and only then here comes a player from Serbia who always wears that number!!! THE REST IS HISTORY!
If the number is not retired, it's not retired. This idea that back before he was a superstar they knew he would outshine Melo's achievements and intentionally gave it to that player is wild.
"Denver disrespected Melo"? Dude left Denver like a coward. And has audacity to call out Denver? He's just jealous now that #15 will not be remembered as his, and he's no longer greatest player in Denver. Pure jealousy. Dude is just attention seeker and trying to get more money from participating in podcasts.
Fr he ruined Lin’s career with nyc because he was jealous and wanted to be the star of the team but in the end Lin got his ring unlike this ballhog it so am glad he got no rings cause he’s a selfish player
I am a Knicks fan, I have nothing against Melo, he seems like a nice guy. I followed Syracuse's improbable championship run, he was the sole reason for it. I was excited by his entry to the NBA, and years later, was happy to see the Knicks get him. Players around him have nothing but good things to say about him. His years with the Knicks were similar to his years with the Nuggets, he plays an isolation game on offense and puts little effort into defense. The current NBA has changed, and I feel he was holding the Nuggets and Knicks back while other teams were passing, shooting threes and executing perimeter defense. The Nuggets have developed a great passing game and defense, and Nikola is the most important piece. They have a championship and MVP trophies. Also, the Nuggets handed #15 to a second round pick who didn't even come to the US for a year, there is no way they intended to have Nikola "erase" Melo's legacy. Seems like Melo is looking back on his career and realizing he skated through on God given talent (and he could score like a machine), but added little to it.
when you leave a team in your prime playing years you lose that number... if he played at denver and then due to rebuilding that team and him part ways due to age/contract etc... then its not your fault and that could be a reason to retire your number depending on your level of achievment
Ok.. numbers 4 to 15 are worn in Serbia. 4,5,6,7,8,9,10 are worn by playmakers, forwards and low wings. from 11 to 15 are carried by wing centers and centers.. it is an unwritten rule, especially with small teams. Jokic is the center and wore number 15. Greetings....... love from SRBIJA
Funny how Melo is mad about how “his” #15 was given to Jokic, but didn’t give a damn when the Rockets were trying to influence him by putting up billboards of him with Jeremy Lin’s number. Not the same, but why care now? He knows he didn’t do enough to deserve the honour to have his number retired in Denver.
When 15 in denver is retired some time in the future, serbia15 will be the one...joker led denver to the first nba ring. Everything else, including melo, with all due respect, is just second. Mabuhay!
They tried to erase his legacy by giving “his number” to a 2d rounder from Serbia?!! 😂😂 nobody expected the Joker to become what he became. Melo is just hurt cause there is a greater #15 who achieved what he couldn’t in 15+ years playing.
People are really comparing a selfish player who forced his way out of Denver with only a conference finals appearance and was forced into retiring because no nba team would take him versus the guy who won mvp 2 times and brought a championship to the team while averaging near triple double. They think a player who chased the bag compares with the one who won a ring and only cares about taking care of his horses. Just like 73-9 means nothing without the ring, bringing the team to playoff contention means squat. Just like Melo, these people are trying to hang on anything that is barely enough to keep him relevant, anything to keep him from falling into obscurity. His legacy will always be known as a selfish skillful player.
Melo was a ball hogging bum who turned his back on the fans and forced his way out of Denver. A back to back mvp and nba champion vs a guy who wanted out. Pretty easy choice.
Strangely, in recent years, even the name "Melo" was no longer reserved to him. Rather, most of the time when I hear people say "Melo", it means Lamelo Ball.
Carmelo is the real deal and it again just goes to show that as a player you're just a commodity that's relevant for a fleeting moment in the eyes of these teams.
Lmao, melo at his best wasnt even half what jokic is now. He's just an ISO ball hog that scores on volume shooting, a bad leader, lackluster playmaker despite having the ball a lot in his hands. Jokic is the best passer in the league, plays with such effortless grace and with legendary scoring efficiency. Oh and he's a 2-time MVP (shouldve been 3 straight), a champion and finals mvp.
Delusional is all you can say about melo… all he cared about was his stats did not care about the team did not care about Defense…force a trade to New York… if he would’ve waited to the summer and the Knicks kept half their team they could’ve made some noise for a few years in the playoffs…. But nope, not melo…. Look how he treated Jeremy Lin …nobody owes melo anything…
Love Carmelo especially in Denver days but unfortunately he left them high and dry when he wanted to go to New York. So he can’t get mad when they didn’t show him respect to his number. He made his bed now you gotta lay on it.
That AI voice trying to say Syracuse pissed me off for some reason lmao I wish more channels would do their own narration, but I understand as well as anyone how big a pain it is and just using AI is so much easier.
Jokic won an NBA championship for the nuggets that's more valuable than anything Carmelo did for them so that puts jokic ahead of Anthony for the jersey number hands down.

In Europe there are 12 legal numbers #4 - #15!
If the number is not retired, it's not retired. This idea that back before he was a superstar they knew he would outshine Melo's achievements and intentionally gave it to that player is wild.
Last time I checked Jokic not only got to the finals but one the Nuggets a chip so I think it might as well be his number.
Carmelo you never won a championship why would they retire your jersey SMH
everybody hates melo since linsanity
"Denver disrespected Melo"? Dude left Denver like a coward. And has audacity to call out Denver? He's just jealous now that #15 will not be remembered as his, and he's no longer greatest player in Denver. Pure jealousy. Dude is just attention seeker and trying to get more money from participating in podcasts.
Fr he ruined Lin’s career with nyc because he was jealous and wanted to be the star of the team but in the end Lin got his ring unlike this ballhog it so am glad he got no rings cause he’s a selfish player
Carmelo demanded a trade 😂 why is he offended?
Carmelo who?! :)
Bus rider melo
melon
candy bar,🍫 kinda like anthony 🤭🍻😁✌😎
He is my idol and my style is ballhog basketball. We in the Philippines loves ballhog basketball 1on1 style
@@KaiSottonumber1 Well, you from the Philippines are well known for your knowledge and achievements in basketball!!! :)
Not relevant to the story but the duel of Carmelo and Kobe that era was somewhat a sight to behold damn!
Why was Carmelo considered the greatest Nugget player before Jokic? How about Dan Issel, Alex English, and David Thompson?
he is currently
@@Bmoreflow..not really. Jokic is the best Nugget of all time.
@@brotherLee340hell naw dude overrated didn’t even play a top center going to the finals and played the trash ass heat in the finals the hell 🤣🤣
That dude on the podcast was throat goating melo so hard, you could see it in his eyes.
What is up with these participation jersey retirements??
If only people let logic and common sense shape the way they think instead of raw emotion and insecurities
thats crazy melo thinking his legacy in denver is better than joker😂
when you leave a team in your prime playing years you lose that number... if he played at denver and then due to rebuilding that team and him part ways due to age/contract etc... then its not your fault and that could be a reason to retire your number depending on your level of achievment
Ok.. numbers 4 to 15 are worn in Serbia. 4,5,6,7,8,9,10 are worn by playmakers, forwards and low wings. from 11 to 15 are carried by wing centers and centers.. it is an unwritten rule, especially with small teams. Jokic is the center and wore number 15. Greetings....... love from SRBIJA
🙋♂🙌🍻😁✌😎
Funny how Melo is mad about how “his” #15 was given to Jokic, but didn’t give a damn when the Rockets were trying to influence him by putting up billboards of him with Jeremy Lin’s number. Not the same, but why care now? He knows he didn’t do enough to deserve the honour to have his number retired in Denver.
When 15 in denver is retired some time in the future, serbia15 will be the one...joker led denver to the first nba ring. Everything else, including melo, with all due respect, is just second. Mabuhay!
Syracuse is my hometown. I do not believe I’ve ever heard the name of the city mangled so intensely. Good sh!t, AI.
i can't even understand how we can compare the two of them
In Serbia, 12-15 are Centers while 4 are mostly Point Guards.
HOW DARE THEY SHOW SUCH DISRESPECT TO MELO WHO BROUGHT AT LEAST A DOZEN NBA TITLES TO DENVER. 😂
😂😂
it's more humiliating if jokic will change his jersey number to any number he chooses to wear just to give melo he wants.
That would be the move!!!
They tried to erase his legacy by giving “his number” to a 2d rounder from Serbia?!! 😂😂 nobody expected the Joker to become what he became. Melo is just hurt cause there is a greater #15 who achieved what he couldn’t in 15+ years playing.
WOW, Huge problems 🙂 I hope Melo will only have problems like this, and suggest to stop dealing with this
Damn Rooster! Never good enough 4:56
This guy said Junior Smith lmaoo
i didn't notice this was AI until he mentioned Junior Smith 😁
but...but...but junior is the best player to have never played😏🍻😁✌😎
Bro requested a trade and now he’s pissed off the Joker had outshined and outclassed him
He forced his way out of Denver and now thinks they own him something? Entitled and delusional much Melo?
“Júnior Smith” 😂😂😂😂
If Melo had won a championship in Denver, then I understand the argument.
The Nuggets have no problem at all. One #15 gets retired, and it's not Melo.
Melo was above average but he wasn’t a legend
He needs to stop 😅
Teams often have let bench players wear numbers that were later retired. No one expected much from Jokic when he was permitted to wear it.
Yeh CJ Watson wore #32 for the Magic but this year they finally retired it because it was Shaqs number.
timberwolves (4:1), suns (4:2), lakers (4:0), heat (4:1) RING... that's the difference
Google him Melo!! …. (Shaq‘s Voice). 2x MVP + the one and only Title in Franchise history…. That discussion is more than ridiculous
Melo was a ball hogging bum who turned his back on the fans and forced his way out of Denver. A back to back mvp and nba champion vs a guy who wanted out. Pretty easy choice.
Strangely, in recent years, even the name "Melo" was no longer reserved to him. Rather, most of the time when I hear people say "Melo", it means Lamelo Ball.
don't tell anphony,🙄 dood gonna cry in the car😩🚗😁🍻✌😎
Same Carmelo that was crying cause no team was callling him
Melo played basketball for Melo not for any team he was ever on. So why would their be a discussion about a team recognition of Mello?
The nuggets also drafted Donavan Mitchell and jursuf nurkic they had a insane front office of during the 2”10s
Another delusional player like his buddies lebum,kd,embiid
Surprised you didn’t pronounce his last name JOCKICK 😂😂 the way u say some of these names are wild
You kinda forgot about how someone else wore it for 2 years before Jokic got the # he'd been wearing since childhood. Look it up. All facts
⛏️🏀🏆✌️
Pretty common, Orlando retired Shaqs #32 number this year but people have used it there since he left like CJ Watson.
I think Denver didn't even think that Jokic would be this good, so they allowed him to use #15
04:56 "With a rooster good enough" 🐓👈✅
Give the #15 to The Joker! Melo is nothing but a stat player. He came to the Knicks and got outshined by JLin.
Camelo just jealous Jokic achieved more than him in Denver. What a petty player.
It's because Jokic won the Nuggets a championship.
Love Carmelo especially in Denver days but unfortunately he left them high and dry when he wanted to go to New York. So he can’t get mad when they didn’t show him respect to his number. He made his bed now you gotta lay on it.
That AI voice trying to say Syracuse pissed me off for some reason lmao I wish more channels would do their own narration, but I understand as well as anyone how big a pain it is and just using AI is so much easier.
new podcast direction - carmelodrama... was this guy playing pro bono for the Nuggets?
Who the hell is Carmelo Anthony? I didn't know him..
Jeremy Lin knows him much.
I love the idea of walking around in public wearing a shirt with another man's name on the back of it. 😉👍🏽👏🏽😊
Jokic > Melo
I’ve never heard anyone say “8th seed” with so much conviction.
Nobody gives a fck about carmelo it's so funny😂
When Jokic retires, they will write under his name
5 Time MVP. Regular se..
3 time champion
3 time MVP finals
😂

Jokic didn’t know of Carmelo so he wouldn’t have asked for the number 15.
Joker thought Melo was a Mexican soda 😂
Ok, Melo was a good scorer. But, he didn’t even win ROTY, neither MVP Finals MVP or the Title. Jokic clears
People forget just who Carmelo Anthony was, If he didn't run into Kobe and pau. We probably wouldn't even be having this conversation at all.
Jokic won an NBA championship for the nuggets that's more valuable than anything Carmelo did for them so that puts jokic ahead of Anthony for the jersey number hands down.
I always thought about this years ago with these two . How ironic Broncos same City have same problem.
Carmelo is literally the only one thinking that. Before Carmelo said that most of us could appreciate both players, but Carmelo tastes bad now.
Maybe Denver can be like the Dallas cowgirls with the number 88😂😂😂
5:00 he said with a rooster 🐓 good enough ta make playoffs! Lol where is dis dude from??
It's crazy to think all those NBA teams passed Nikola in the 1st round. A lot of scouts and GMs f%ck that up.
collective head smack🤦♂🤣🍻✌😎
