  • I found a great "how to" article laying out how to install a B&M Quicksilver Shifter in my Olds 442 project car. It was nice having a set of instructions right in front of me. Here's the link:

    Great in depth video. I'll be following the build. Shops make it seem so difficult to do and ask for way to much money 💵. Everything I've seen u do from breaking the car down to where u at now, you make it so simple thanks should be getting my 84 back from the paint soon thanks 👍. Keep up the great work.

    Thanks for the tip on cutting the console to shift. What did you use for the light?

    Thanks for the excellent video! Love the clean install I think I might copy you! I hate all the extra levers and releases that many shifters have. Love that you only have to lift it. I wasn't even aware of that model shifter and they even work with 4 speeds. What a great find!

      It's a very stout shifter too. I've had them before and beat the crap out of them. Never let me down.

    What does the front of the console bolt to? I know from the factory it bolts to the factory shifter. Well what does it bolt to now since you have an aftermarket shifter?

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  Před rokem +1

      It still bolts to the shifter. Click on the link and scroll down. There's a plate you make and bolt to the shifter and bolt the console to that. I can't do mine until the carpet is in.

    Wanting to install a B&M Star Shifter in my 84 Monte Carlo...never done this teardown or replacement before, and I'm curious about the mounting and if there's any major modification or fabrication that's going to need to be involved in order to install it.
    In your video I know you cut off the front mounting bracket, but did you even use the factory rear mounting bracket that is welded to the body of the car or did you have to make your own mounting plans ? How did you end up mounting the front down ?

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  Před rokem +1

      I just followed the instructions on the buickturboregal website. Check with some Monte forums and see if someone has done the install. I'm sure someone has done it somewhere.

    Any reason why you didnt use the B&M Shifter Cable that the shifter comes with? You wouldnt of had to modify it no?

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  Před rokem +1

      Because the 80688 Quicksilver is meant as a bolt in for 70-81 F Body's. It hooks up to the factory shift cable. As in: it doesn't come with one.

    Can you tell me what size and length of the factory shifter bolts that hold it down to the bracket

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  Před rokem

      Off the top of my head, they were definitely 10mm head screws about an inch or so long. The Google machine may have more on that.

    I'm a little surprised you're not going with 4L80 or even 700R4. Anyways, great build and content. 👍

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  Před 2 lety +1

      The 4L80 is just an electric 4 speed version of the 400, but no BOP bellhousing (it's way heavier too). The 700R4 might not stand up to the torque (350 max engine torque compared to the 500+ I'm going to have), and again, no BOP bellhousing. I know they make adapters to fit, but to handle the torque, the 700 is $$$. The 4L80 is also $$$ out the gate, soooo...TH400 it is!

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  Před rokem +1

      This is for the Buick and Olds since they share the same center console, but anything will fit anything if you modify it enough.

      Time and Money brother. Both in short supply. I do my best, but this is a hobby that costs money that isn't there all the time. I also have a full time job and a family that takes my time too. It'll get done when it gets done. Can't say much more than that.

    Do you have to manually switch the gears? Or can you just drive in automatic?

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  Před 2 lety +1

      It's a full manual valve body. The forward gears are reversed as well. PRN123
