Del Piero scored 22 goals from free kicks in serie A, in his career he scored a total amount of 52 free kicks in official matches.
He was a Master.
I was already wondering. There is a reason you call it the "Zona Del Piero"
And Zola even more than that. Baggio was still around. Than Totti came a bit later. Italy used to have champions galore... not anymore unfortunately.

My favourite player ever and hero growing up. Being 7 years old in 1993 once he signed for Juventus as a teenager, I was boarder-line obsessed him. I would wear the number 10 jersey for school and club teams and copied his boots aswell. What a player he was.
Alex ❤️. Before injury he was like Messi, then he played at 20% speed and he was still incredible
So . . .after injury he played at his 20% and still had a nicer shot as messi? 😛
Cause, he didn't had the skills on his foot like messi - but he was a one shooter like no one elses.
And after his injury, he was like 80%, not 20%....
Cause if after it was only 20% . . . Messi was not even in questinon (and his the best player in the world).
So - Yeah, he loose a little bit - but he won everything even after his injury.
And - nobody, either messi, was so astonishing on the green field and outside of it.

Del Piero was the reason for me to start interesting football and watching football games (after Euro 2000). The best "10" of Juventus.
My heart was melted when during the last game of 2007/08 Seria A (he and Trezeguet had equal goals and were leaders of the table) DP scores first, then Juve got chance for penalty kick. Sandro was the main pens master, he could do it by himself but the kicker was David! Equal number of goals again! Fortunately Alessandro scores again and become the best scorer! He is like a black tuxedo, you wear it on big occasions and you never wrong! Bernabeu standing ovation. The most respected footballer I’ve seen. Pinturicchio the legend.
Del Piero absolute legend and champion, both inside and outside the pitch!!
He has never said a word out of line in interviews for his entire career. His-entire-career! Never.
I remember a period, when he was often left on the bench by his manager, Fabio Capello. All the supporters would chant his name at the stadium wanting him to play, but, never the less, most of the times he was kept out.
He was already a legend, he was the captain, he had been in serie B with Juventus and now he wasn't even playing?! He never complained. Never.
He never said he thought he should have played (when basically everybody else were saying so), he never criticised the manager. Not a single time.
He always made the pitch to speak for him.
Nowadays not many players, if none, would behave that way, especially knowing that all supporters are by your side.
That year Juventus won the scudetto against Inter and Alex contributed by scoring some absolute quality class goals, including one wonderful and crucial freekick against Inter indeed as a substitute.
I am not a Juventus supporter but he was my idol when I was a kid. Great class, superb moves, soft and elegant touch... what else?!
I will never forget the overwhelming, joyful and kind of primal emotion I felt when he put the ball in the top corner against Germany at the 2006 World Cup during the final minutes.
Thank you Alex!
