The Year of Dedication That Goes Into Becoming a Mardi Gras Indian | The New Yorker Documentary - Krátké a kreslené filmy
One of the most beautiful New Orleans traditions Mardi Gras Indians!!!!! 😍 These costumes are museum quality amazing 🤩 Just Spectacular!!!!!! 💜💛💚
The city and state of Louisiana should fund his beads and pay him to make costumes--they are a national treasure. Create artists' grants and funding for him to continue this amazing tradition.
Bruhhhh… are we reading minds? I thought the same thing.
They could 100% apply to the National Endowment of the Arts for a fellowship and cultural preservation grant.
My goodness that’s some undeniable beautiful impressive art. Great doc.
Thank you ❤️
I'm extremely proud of my ancestors' involvement in the underground railroad and what they did to help free those people. It's touching to see how they are honored here.
These people are American Indians. Autochthonous. Their story is skewed by Mongolians and Europeans. We’ve always been here
The subtitles say, "How we gonna make the soup?" He's not talking about soup. He's talking about the SUIT--the Mardi Gras costume it takes all year to make.
Oh my goodness thats the funniest thing
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Phantasmagoria, grounding, connecting, belonging, beauty, appreciation, rebirth, tradition going forward.
The children’s faces!!!!! 🙏

Thank you for sharing. There is so much about our history that we have been lied to about. Carrying on the real story and tradition is necessary for future generations, which is the fear of some people. Thank you for spotlighting reality and history at the same time.
Beautiful people thank you for sharing your culture with us 💜❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for watching ❤️
this was beautiful. thank you!
Thank you, you welcome ❤️
Gentleman is a brilliant folk artist with all the attributes of the honest man on a path of devotion to his craft. He can even sing, the total package of realness.
I would expect some NYC art sharks seeking decorations for summer cocktail parties at beach houses in the Hamptons are about to swoop down on this cat and his peers, pay him to find the good stuff available, and interior decorators for billionaire's row will be stomping on each other's insteps to get to the front of the line to buy. How that wrecks the authenticity time will tell, but until it does this is a folk art gold mine.
@creekmary1 hush... be happy someone even wanna represent such proud people you realize your people helped our people escape slavery we're so much alike if anything we're proud of our indian brothers and sisters
@@khaosleigon504 thank you so much ❤️
@creekmary1 it's not mockery though I just told you why we celebrate y'all culture the way we do there's history to it
Big missed opportunity here. They didn't they have him explain the actual designs on the suit and what they mean. That's a huge part of the story. And where were they in relation to the main parade? Disappointing.
Is there the possibility of NYorker or you @sebeckley to continue on with part 2 of the interview?
Maybe thet don’t discuss What the designs mean with outsiders. Maybe it’s “if you know, then you know and if you don’t, you don’t need to.”
@@janeauer7389 facts
It's secrecy not suppose to be told are shown until mardi gras day!
@@lynetteledoux2845 Hopefully, When the big chief finishes the suit he is making for 2024 he will have another documentary for the suit he is creating now.

Beautiful MAN Just amazing. Thank you for you passion and inspiration. May Gpd always bless the Black Masking Indians.
Thank you ❤️
So beautiful!!!
The beading was immaculate ⭐️
Truly wonderful
Thank you ❤️
My favorite.
This man is an artist, he doesn’t need an 8 to 5 job, rather someone needs to hire him / back him and a few others to start a design studio + upload to a travelling museum and sell some too.
Facts
i think that will ruin the whole secrecy thing because tbh i didnt know they dress up like this in new orleans. i know they wear feathers and stuff but i didnt know that most of the designs are like a bizarre form of what native americans wore.
Why does the city not fund its traditional artists??? I don't understand. Without them, they have no tourist industry.
This is amazing I literally wanna learn more ❤
Beautiful
I wonderful tradition.
That's the most amazing beadwork I've ever seen. I wonder if any Black Masking Chiefs have ever been to a Pow Wow.
This is Awesome! ✊🏾😎
