Turkish people are more conservative than spaniards. In my opinion, when you move to a country, you should consider the folk psychology and the beliefs of the people here. For example, i would choose to live in Spain, because I would have more in common with the people there.

I visited Istambul for 15 days as a tourist. It is a really nice city, I really enjoined it. However, I love Valencia, I fell in love with the city, and I completely agree with you that Valencia is a highly underated city. From my perspective, you have a beautiful beach near the city, you heve a really good university and people is really friendly (what else ?).

I have a home in Istanbul and albeit I love many aspects of it. The mentality of people causes most expats to eventually leave. Plus the economy and government have been going downhill which makes it feel unstable to raise a family. I'm currently looking at Valencia or Barcelona (or both) as an alternative.
Another note is language. You will have to study Turkish for roughly 1-2 years to become an Intermediate or above speaker. Many would say this isn't necessary but that simply isn't true, you will greatly limit your opportunities socially and professionally without the language and some Turkish people will be very offended if you don't speak Turkish fairly well.

Better to be unknown than dying from success like Barcelona, where tourism is becoming a problem for the neighbours in some areas. Having said that, Barcelona has a special feeling that is unique.

I live in Valencia but have spent months in Istanbul and love that city as well. I agree with all your points! Istanbul food is more interesting. Standing on the Marmara Bridge or riding the water taxis is fabulous. However, I am disgusted at the construction on the seafront at Karakoy. Entire blocks have been demolished to be replaced by another giant shopping plaza where only big-name, expensive, international merchandise will be sold. There will be nothing Turkish there.

Hi Jason, I live in Spain and from my opinion, I don't recommend Barcelona, apart from the political ravings that are confronting the population, insecurity, crime and illegal population is on the rise and the city council doesn't seem to care about that problem, also the price of a flat is much higher compared to if you buy it in Valencia. But you should think and look a bit further than these videos because they don't tell you anything about the rest of the country and they are only personal opinions of the editor of these videos, do you know Malaga, Seville or Cordoba? the big cities have everything, good, bad and very bad. I recommend you to know a bit more about the country in question, before making a final decision because maybe a small city is more suitable for you than a big city. Best regards

I think it's a bit strange to compare a small city like Valencia, with Istanbul, which is the 15th largest and most populous city in the world. They're very different- so I think it's not really a fair comparison.
I stayed in Istanbul for three months and have lived in Valencia for a year. If I had to compare and choose, I prefer Istanbul overall. Much cheaper, better food (for my tastes)- but it does feel pretty over populated. Very busy, and the streets are quite chaotic. As far as Valencia goes, it's a little bit too "relaxed" for me. Not much goes on here. It's also not as well connected (flight wise).
Again, it's hard to compare, but I much prefer Istanbul.

If you come from Istanbul, 100% is an upgrade and a better place to live. I left Valencia due to low overall life quality and very low salaries. Still a good place to go in vacation. For most of valencian ppl, the only vacation they afford is the sea and hiking on dry hills. The traffic is terrible in Valencia ... one of the big minus (stretch parking, door scratched, roundabouts chaos, frequent accidents, driving in paralel on highway at low speed, police or civilian cars parking on zebra crossing, did I miss something regarding traffic?). Flats ... ppl close the doors like animals even during the night, 0 isolation, you hear everything, temperature fluctuates depending on the season, cheap electronics for rented apartments, 3 mo. deposit which you can say bye bye when you move to a different apartment, smell of marijuana everywhere. During the summer the city center smells really bad (urine+trash containers which are on the street). So yeah ... who lived there knows exactly what I am talking about. And most important, no longer a cheap city (prices exploded at least during my last trip there in October, just the salaries remained the same :)) )
